Stretched / WIDENING your rear wheel
-
-
I knew someone had it, just couldn't remember who or where....
Yah...
Must be the ol' age laddie...
-
In almost all cases, it would be a 275. If you went 285, you would likely need to go with a 45 or larger sidewall. Then, you would need to make sure that this increased rolling diameter wouldn't be too much more and trigger nanny lights.
Above information is off of manufacturer tire sizing recommendation. -
I have ForgeStar CV5-V rims. My rear is a 20x12 with the 45 offset. This will be coming available soon if anyone is interested in putting a 345 on the back. My new SS has the Bilstein shocks and the 345 will not fit. I am dropping down to a 305 for now.
-
I have the 285 in the rear 20" in the Nitto G2 555
-
@Ruptured Duck is that on the 9" rim? that has got to be at the limit.

No issues to report. -
You would have to define what "limit" means. Tires can be stretched past manufacturer recommendations, but you need to understand what you are doing and find a tire shop that will actual install it. Many shops will only mount tires on rim sizes that the tire manufacturer lists.
Look at the below link and you will see what Nitto sets as their "limits".
http://www.nittotire.com/passe…ra-high-performance-tire/Most people should probably just stay inside the recommended limits set by the tire manufacturer, as if you make the wrong choice and have a rear tire failure, it most likely wont be a happy ending.

correct. I am not recommending anyone install tires that differ from the manufacturers recommendation. The question was asked. Last tire size was 275. 285 was acceptable for my application and intended use.

I know you know what you are doing.
It is the guys that keep on wanting to install 305s on their SL stock rim that scare me.... ha -

@Ruptured Duck / @TravAZ what do guys think about Achilles Desert Hawk UHP, 275/40R-20, MAG274020 on the SL rims?
-
Should be fine. Size and tread design look good, but I cant say I know much about that tire. I wouldn't guess for it to be too sticky with were it is rated at for tread wear.

nor can I.
They look good and for that price it's worth looking into. -

Hey, so probably the wrong thread, but it is at least dealing with tires. Looking for a rim for K2 for Christmas that won't break the bank and found these... Can you super smart people tell me if they'd fit the sling? Yes, they are the same with different spacing and stuff...

Both would need some type of spacer @sideseatdriver... The offset isn't 45mm

For the rear, yes... For the fronts, you've got wiggle room, unless you plan to trailer... Then others who are smarter can chime in.

TDS says you can go +- 10mm on the offset without issue... So what numbers am I really caring about.
-
TDS @sideseatdriver? Ya lost me after the blasphemy!
Seriously, +/- 10mm for the fronts? Definitely not the rear without a spacer, unless you don't care if the back is off center...
