Has anyone ever had to get there SYNCHROS replaced in there tranny? Did dealer do it or urself? If dealer how much was it?

I've talked with people that have changed transmissions due to synchro issues with 4th gear but haven't talked to anyone that repaired the issue.

There was this one time where I allegedly forgot to put a pilot bearing in the new crank once when I was building a new engine for my sling. Couldn’t shift above 4K RPM. Sadly I didn’t find this out until I was at the 1/2mi so I just crammed away through the gears and had to back half the entire event. Needless to say I wasted the synchros in the trans and the clutch disc after a full day of racing. Pretty sure we used a winch to get it back in the trailer. We didn’t work on transmissions at ZZP so I just swapped mine out. I got one out of a Hummer H3 since the gear ratios were better. I sent the broken trans out to a place to be rebuilt and have a spare. I can’t remember what we paid for that though.
There’s a lot of parts in there. Unless you’re familiar with taking them apart or are mechanically inclined and very detailed I’m not sure I would attempt it. The transmission can generally be found pretty inexpensively from places like http://www.car-part.com

Have you checked clutch fluid?

A quick simple cheep check would be change the oil in clutch/trans...

Trans fluid was changed about 3,000 miles ago . Clutch oil was never changed. SS has 10,000 miles

The problem with the 3rd/4th gear synchros on the transmission are something we have been dealing with since the Solstice/Sky. We had several local shops look into doing the rebuild, making stronger parts, etc to fix the issue, but the cost of all of that was higher than just getting a used one and putting it in. The hard to shift into 4th or 3rd is because the square notch on the synchro ring can become worn and starts to look more like a triangle, which causes the synchro to rotate too far and prevents the transmission from engaging that gear. If you want to do the work yourself, get the Solstice/Sky workshop manual, has a good description on repairs in it. Sorry for the late reply, just getting back into the office after being gone for 2 weeks.
