Has anyone seen this? Looks like a nice solution. Granted, it doesn't fix the viewing angle issues, but looks pretty nice.
no cutting Double Din Radio Kit with cover!

I wonder if a stereo with a motorized face and a screen shade would help with glare. For example, something like the Kenwood DDX 771 with a Stealth Audio Shade.

when I do replace the OE infotainment center I think I'm going single din with motorized screen. I think I want a usable cubby hole for my wallet and other items.
-
I have a similar radio .......that cover will work great specially with those surprise rains.
Really cool thanks -
@rabtech has the motorized , I believe . I know his works incredibly well with great sound and he has tried multiples.
yes. but his is a single din radio, I meant a motorized tilting double din.

I must step away from this due to my own ignorance of the subject

Basically, the "Din" is the radio size.
Examples...Standard Single din. (Much thinner and no touch screen)
Double din (Thicker and with a large touch screen)
What Rab has is a Single Din with a motorized pop out face. like this. The screen retracts inside when not in use.
Thee have been a lot people looking for a Double Din mount with a splash cover in case of rain.
Until now.there hasn't been one that that you didn't have to cut the dash to fit. -
Well they don't sell the cover by itself.

From the looks of it, it's the same premise as the Biketronics splash shields. held on by magnets.
-
Yeah, I'm waiting on the Biketronics release discussed here:
Double din with no modification?
Would rather not cut, but waiting for price... This AudioDesigns one was also discussed, but $200??? Some may want to cut a little and go with the splash guard option for a little less than $200. You can find that one in eBay...

Based on the video, looks like it may be just slight grooves to "clip" or grip on...

I see what you are talking about.
I'm going to give them a call and try and get more info.
EDIT: Just talked to them. it is a clip on cover. He said it is strong enough to stay on while driving as well.
They are also developing a mount to put a double din more upright to help with glare. -
A bit pricey for the (Gunga) Din box...but the whole setup looks really nice. The Pioneer in the pic is the AVHx4800BS. Seems to be a really good value in a well rounded system.

I like the setup in the original post (dbl din box and the Pioneer AVHX4800BS). Their dbl din box ad says no cutting. In looking up the dimensions of the specific Pioneer unit that they used, it shows as 9.6 X 6.4 X 11.1. The uncut opening on my Sling is 7.4 wide by 4.25 high. Is this a magic box??
Update...I had found the above dimensions on 3 different store sites. Just didn't sound right though given size of screen. Looked up PFD of owners manual and the unit dimensions are 7 wide, 3.8 high and 6.5 deep. The above numbers must be for the box it comes in.
-
I also think the unit fits behind the opening, not the entire way flush.. But I'm just guessing based on video...

I wound up buying the kit--here's pics of it. It's just simple plastic that they make as you order. You can actually wire up your double din head unit and place it in cubby and slide this in afterwards around the head unit. Fits snug and tight. Cover is a vinyl covered lightweight plastic which is also snug. Simple, easy, but not cheap. However, compared to marine kits and the need for cutting/chopping, it might be worth the price. It'd be nice if they had a clear cover for it while using in rain.
-
Nice! That price though... For plastic! Vendors still taking advantage of Slingshot owners...
My opinion, at most, would be $50 to $75...
-
We need Metra to start making that. They only charge around $20-$35 for something like that.
