Who uses an alarm on their slingshot.

  • Wouldn't a cover do more to keep people from sitting or laying on our slings? Seems I've heard of no slings being stolen and the alarm reasoning is to keep people from sitting in them.

I guess I'm not all that paranoid about the supper machine. I've invited probably a
1000 kids and gals to sit in and have a picture taken....used it that way a lot last year and collected $2,500.00 or more for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation,
and I'm sure that some have probably touched and sat in when I wasn't close
    by.

Down in South Carolina a couple of weeks ago and some young ladies were drooling of one of the other guys Slingshots so I invited them over to mine for a sit and picture....1st gal got in and had pics taken---2nd gal said she'd have to get naked to get in and it was only about 40 degrees out / been 50 she probably would have.

I bought to drive and have fun with....and let some other dream....

  • agree 100%. I invite anyone interested to take a seat and get a pic.

  • Has anyone heard of the Encore M1?

It was recommended by my audio installer for perimeter protection. Not worried about theft, just keeping the unwanted folks out while I'm not there. I can't take a repeat of dirty footprints in the seat!

It was $199 and only 1 hour labor due to the bike being tore down for audio install.

    Moderation is for cowards.

  • Yep! The lock works great with the new brake lever. I may get another one to use though. I mashed the crap out of the one in photo trying to shape it to fit the stock handle (round hole square handle). So it has some serious gouges and tool marks.

  • Scorpio SR-i900 with perimeter sensor option

New member here - reviving a not-too-old thread.

It appears, though I haven't confirmed yet, that the new alarm system from the official Polaris Slingshot Store IS the Scorpio SR-i900R - but with the Polaris logo instead of Scorpio's. The price is the same or in the same range as the SR-i900R is listed at most sources.

The Polaris site states "Coming September 2016 - This product is in production and will be available for purchase soon."

I've indicated to the dealership that my wife and I want this alarm installed in our upcoming 2017 SLR. We figure it seems to be a quality and proven product overall, and if it's made as the Polaris-source alarm for the Slingshot and INSTALLED by the dealer, we probably can't go wrong...

Welcome to the forum! I believe a good alarm system is a worthwhile investment. The perimeter sensor is good at keeping people out of your Slingshot.

  • I just tip my seat forward. Haven't had a problem yet. Never leave my sling far from sight. Don't mind if people want to look and I will invite people to sit in it. But unfortunately some people cross the line. I will probley never have an alarm. But I can't confirm or deny that there may be a tracking device located somewhere on the vehicle. I figure if they want it bad enough alarm or not there going to get it. Just think about when you walk out of a store and hear 2 or 3 car alarms going off. I don't give it a second look. The worst thing that had happened to me in regards to people over stepping their boundaries was I came out of target and a girl was dropped over the side 1 leg in 1 out and her girlfriend taking a pic. Was not really happy and let them know it. I did have the seat tipped and probly was the only reason she wasn't in it. X(

Yep, I do know we've had a rather extensive discussion in several Slingshot Facebook groups about folks "helping themselves" to "invade" Slingshots for pics, plain curiosity, etc. The alarm - especially the perimeter feature - is just one of several methods folks use to deter and/or prevent it. Seats forward, doorway barriers, signs (at least for those intruders who can actually read, and who may actually COMPLY), alarms, seatbelt placement, close vigilance, and many other suggestions seem to be used by many folks.

Your statement "Don't mind if people want to look and I will invite people to sit in it. But unfortunately some people cross the line" is probably almost universal among Slingshot owners. Personally, most of my friends who have Slingshots are either former (like myself, thanks to disability) or also-current bikers (mostly Harleys) and the nicest people in the world - but also VERY protective of their highly-admired rides, AND who don't hesitate to "communicate with strained patience" when others do rather stupid things to them.

  • ....AND who don't hesitate to "communicate with strained patience" when others do rather stupid things to them.

I laughed at this. "Strained patience" indeed. I told an ignorant young lady to get out of the seat the other day (halfway politely, even) as I walked towards her across the lot, and she had the audacity to give me attitude about it. "I just wanted to see what it was like," along with the condescending and rude face and body language. I more or less flipped my shit on her. She and the older lady who was with her just walked off in a huff. Didn't care. First time I'd ever caught someone doing that, and I was not amused.

  • Getting use to it, a lot of people here at the Adirondacks are showing others my saddlebag setup, then they see the seat and want to try them out. I'm OK with it as long as they respect the fact it's not theirs. By the time they sit in it, there's a crowd around it. My wife and I laugh about the attention we get, considering all the awesome slings here. Honestly, the people here are very respectful.

  • I installed the Scorpion pretty much for the same reasons mentioned by others. I know people can't help themselves and need to get a closer look at these things, and I encourage it. It can't be helped, and I enjoy the looks on their faces as they hover around it. BUT, I don't want people just climbing in or reaching in fiddling with stuff unless invited to do so, it's quite disrespectful in my opinion!!!
That's why I took @'Tripod''s advice and got the Scorpion with proximity sensor. I have it adjusted it so that while we are not around the Sling, people can get close and look it over all they want, but it will give them a warning if they reach inside or try to climb in, and then it will go ballistic and also it will set off my FOB to alert me that someone is being ignorant. Look all they want, but don't get in without permission!!! That's what I like about my alarm....it will warn them, then go full blast, plus send me an alert so I can deal with them accordingly.

Scorpio SR-i900 Security System - RevZilla

Just make sure it includes the prox sensor, other wise it's just the run of the mill alarm.
