We had a great turnout of Slingshots and Members, 30 plus member got a chance to meet friends and new members. Got some aerial video of our place in the parking lot. We had 16 Slingshots to parade down Lakeshore Dr in Tavares to Mt Dora. Drove right down the middle of downtown with heads turning and pointing. Fun was the big description at the end of the day for most.

Is there such a thing as "gently crashed"? When it comes to flying, you either landed or crashed. Fail or fail not.

The helicopter community uses the term "autorotate" when defining a semi-non-controlled helo landing....done correctly, it is indeed a "gentle crash."

Well, technically a landing is a controlled crash... it becomes the point at which you are no longer flying. Failure to use the landing gear or skids removes the controlled part...Nice video there @Samowens44... air space seemed to be a little crowded... Nice piloting.

As far as landing my drone, I use the hand catch landing. I fly the drone over head my position and gently descend the drone, when it is within reach, I use one hand to reach up and grab the drone landing gear. This type landing is the safest for the drone props and drone damage.

That method not recommended for some of the newer drones with obstacle avoidance sensors...
-
The Drone I used for the Lake Harris Video is a DJI Phantom 4. It does have obstacle avoidance in 5 direction, not backwards. You can not fly between trees and between post. But you can turn it off. Then you have to use total skills to fly around obstacle to avoid crashing.

Great video - Great music - looks like you all had some fun.
It is very rewarding when you can get a group of SS brothers and sisters together for an event. As much as I enjoy the major events these small get-togethers always seem to be the best. That all being said I wish I could figure out how to fly my drone without doing tree surgery. I am sure at this point I have more invested in replacement parts than I paid for the thing.

This is the kind of drone I want. They say the video resolution is pretty good!
