Very Nice!

I'm glad I went with the Clarion! So far I like it

We need Metra to start making that. They only charge around $20-$35 for something like that.
Well... it took a while, but it's finally here! May try this one as well...Though this install job certainly leaves something to be desired...

It says trimming required after all...
Not liking the Scosche?

Polaris Slingshot Double Din Stereo Dash Mounting Kit with Splash Guard by Metra
They could have definitely used a more forgiving picture. All I see is scratches on the cover, it's crooked, and it looks like the edges of the plastic aren't finished completely. Wish Scosche made a weatherproof cover as their dash kit looks great.

I KNOW!!!! RIGHT??? I was thinking the exact same thing!!! I even looked at some ways to attempt to add the sliding splash guard to the Scosche, but I think it wouldn't look right. It needs to be manufactured that way to have the finished look. -

I've got the Scosche kit sitting in my garage. Was thinking of lining the inside of the lip with rare earth magnets so they are not visible once the mount is in place. Then make a brushed ferritic stainless steel plate to match the trim around the head unit to act as a cover. Then you can just store the cover in the glove box or in a pouch beside the seat so that it can be accessed if a sudden storm comes out of nowhere. Of course the cover would have a thin foam or rubber seal.

Sometimes it's scary how similarly we think. I attempted to do something very similar. The problem was that I couldn't find magnets that were both small enough to fit inside of the lip and powerful enough to hold the faceplate on. It would just slide.I went with plan B which is supposed to be temporary, but should get me by till I figure out a more permanent solution.

Very similar to my dilemma when installing a new headunit on a buddy's SS, I couldn't find any small magnets like the ones someone posted a few weeks back and I can't remember the name of the person to ask where he bought them, so I scrapped the metal plate idea and when for plexiglass with the intention of just keeping it there for the most part since the unit can be controlled either via remote or cellphone.
We used the soft rubber window gaskets around 3 sides(<^>) of the plexi to act as water seal and used thinned velcro next to it to keep the thing in place and place 1/2" strip of carbon fiber vinyl wrap on the other side around the edges to hide everything.
If you remove the plate and stare at the velcro it can be annoying to look at but we couldn't think of any other way to do it.
So @TheRock or @WraithSS if you know a source of where to buy the small strong magnets pls do post it.

You aren't talking about this post, are you?

Nope there was someone who made a cover plate for the scorche kit and had tiny magnets in all four corners of the head unit, looked very clean with or without the cover.

And they posted on here? I missed that... -

Yeah, if I have the time!!
I have those same magnets, they are called neodymium magnets. They are supposed to be really strong. The thing was that I didn't want to mount them on the front, I was trying to mount them in the little ridge on the back of that trim piece. Once I did that, there was simply too much material there for the magnets to be effective. I also thought about drilling holes in the trim piece and painting the magnets black so I could flush mount them in the trim. Not sure if they would hold though and I don't want to destroy the trim piece for nothing.
Thing thing I like about my piece above, is that if I get caught in a rain storm, I can still use my GPS and such because it's clear!!

Thought this install bracket required no trimming when I ordered it BUT it did require it...I didn't mind though..it was winter time gave me something to do lol.....I also added 2.5% Limo tint to the Plexis glass cover door & added some Velcro along the edges to keep the cover door from moving while flying, opps I meant driving....
