Lucky guy...

So I hooked up the failsafe gauge and man.... I am so lost... The install was easy, but the setup is way over my head... I've done searches and can't find anything that gives a step by step walk through on how to set it up.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also I had issues downloading the file, my anti-virus software kept flagging it as a Trojan... Finally disabled it and was able to install the failsafe software

First things first, did you tap the green wire into the RPM wire on a coil or the 2nd harness going into the ECM?
If so, you literally just download the AEM failsafe software from their website and the first program to setup the gauge should pop right open. Plug the USB from the gauge to your laptop and your good to make changes. Gauge will say USB when connected. No reason to have the key on in your machine to do this. -
Yes... That is as far as I've gotten... I don't know what to do from there..
-
Ok. First, go to AEM Website below and look for the right downloads listed under... "Wideband Failsafe Configuration Software"
http://www.aemelectronics.com/…upport/software-downloadsDownload the files. Once they are downloaded, start by opening "AEM Wideband Failsafe Device 1.2.8.7".
Once it is open, plug in the USB from your gauge to your computer. This will "activate" the program, so you can make changes to the gauge.
Make sure "Pulses Per Revolution" is set at 0.5 to get the right RPM reading.
The 2nd tab ("Gauge Configuration") allows you to chose what faceplate you want to use. I prefer boost on the outside and AFR as the center digital number. AFR is crucial and is hard to read it is on the outside. It is easy to set boost on the outside in red color when it reaches your upper limit. This will quickly allow you to see AFR and if you see red, you are making too much boost and have an issue.
To make sure all is well, you can start the machine while you are still plugged into the gauge. This will allow you to see all of the AFR, Boost, and RPM right on your laptop screen at real speed. Don't "Auto Set Limits" because it won't do it correctly for you. The warning lights are set using the graph. So at each boost level, you can set what you believe is the lean warning. I will screen shot what I have at some point. Not by my machine, so I cant do it now. Maybe @Oldfogey can screen shot his and post it.
NEXT - Logging
That gauge holds 4 hours of logs. To pull a log....
1. Open program listed above in screen shot
2. Download log
3. Save to computer where you can easily find it
4. Open AEM Data
5. Click File, load template - template is in link below
6. Once template is loaded, click File, Open Log (Replace in Session)
7. Now your log is open in the correct template
8. Explore and try to learn what is going on - ask more questions after you have some time looking it overAEM Data Template Here - http://www.slingshotforums.com…e-aemdata-template.11429/

- @Garrett Taguchi if you still need a screen shot I'd be happy to post one as soon as I get back to my home where my computer is and I should be home tomorrow. Let me know. Old fogey.

Ok so this is what I have... I disabled a couple colors.. Felt 5 colors was overkill... Let me know if there's anything I missed.. Thanks again guys..
-
this is my 1st run....only drove it a couple miles up n down the freeway...any tips?

Blow air into the cartridge... Nintendo NES style...

Yes I still have a large stack of them, and an NES to play them on. For the record Mike Tysons Punch Out is about the only 1 I play any more on the NES, but on the N64 me & the wife play Mario Golf often
-
And Genesis? Nice...
Uh oh... Possible derail in progress...
-
-
So after looking at the log a little more thoroughly, It shows I never went past 9 psi of boost.. Which is great, but I know I saw my led bar hit the red... I set the red to come on at 10 psi and higher... Looking at the physical gauge, the faceplate display starts at negative psi numbers, however, the configuration software does not... Any idea how to change this?
-
The faceplate displays vacuum. Don't believe the failsafe allows u to change that. That's kinda like user info if u aren't seeing he right number under vacuum then u could have a possible hose leak. Just like the scg1 from innovate u can't use the aem failsafe correctly with out some tweaking
-
Don't worry about watching the boost numbers closely all the time. You only care is that if something breaks, like your wastegate vacuum line, that if turns red and you know something is wrong.
Set your boost gauge to have green numbers 1-9 and red from 10-30. In this way, if you see red, you know what you are making too much boost and you should look for issues or download the logs and explore deeper. -

Got it... And what about the face back light? Is there one? Or is it just the digital display and the led bars?
-
@Garrett Taguchi No back light just numbers and bars and look into the rubber boot aem offers for this gauge just another way to keep moisture out.I remember buying it for mine
-
Well that derail failed... Boo!!! Hiss!!!
