Had a pretty big mistake lead to big boom right before lake George hoping to get the extra motor in before Wednesday. If your wondering how? My mechanic helps me with the sling when I'm in to much of a rush to do things alone so we were reattaching the exhaust and wastegate after welding the o2 bung he mistakely attached the boost line to the top t- valve which I should have removed from the beginning instead of using the side tap. Basically jut pushed about 17-20psi of boost. And boom. Hit that power I wanted for a short moment. And now she's stripped down
Boom !!!!very unexpected

Ouch. Your saying you basically blew it up because you had the vacuum line in the wrong place? Sorry to hear that. It doesn't take but a second to do it unfortunately
-
That will happen. The breather side doesn't do anything to regulate boost unfortunately. This is probably the #1 mistake made when people have blown motors.
It is good advice and maybe should be in the instructions to remove the fitting from the breather side so that a person couldn't attach it wrong.
It is also important to check that wastegate line periodically even when it is hooked up correctly. A good tight zip tie should be used, but there is still a lot of heat in the area.
What is your plan for a replacement motor?
-
For some reason I guess I need a picture. What exactly did you hook up wrong? I know if the wastegate doesn't see the correct pressure it won't open up. Is that line the one you left off or hooked up wrong?
-
Sorry to hear, SUCKS!!
-
@rab ya line leading to turbo from wastegate don't use top I knew that already just a stupid error
-
The line is correct now with the t valve removed . You can tap from there if using boost controller. With no controller running about 20psi short lived and scary power.looks like Henry's building a motor out for me sooner then I thought so will probably be doin this all over. Crazy this is I was watching your thread Rab and telling my self last minute deadlines suck now I'm in the same boat day and half before I'm suppose to leave for NY. You live and learn . And who around here doesn't like to learn

@trav I already had a 07 2.4 here that I was gonna send out to build but I have Henry just looking for one closer to him so this one is going in. I mean they say this year is forged and if it is. I can handle a little more power just don't have an extra set up studs before Wednesday so gonna take it easy I'll have Henry slap in some studs and see if has a green spring lying around maybe give it a go. any one want any coffee ?
-
Got ya. Yep to do those kinds of pressures you will need some of these ...
Glad your taking it better than I probably would have.
-
Just happen to have my oil pan off and thought I would show off them beautiful forged part. Looks like you will have some of those precious bits soon...
-
I definitely hope so Rab. I was expecting to do this just not so soon. And short notice I was just testing the new fail safe that's the shitty part of it only 10 minute test drive but what can you do just hope no one else makes this stupid error. Hurts a little more when I was by the dummy who did it. A lot easier eating my own mistakes. And man do those internals make my blood flow

Coffee with creamer. Never thought of that. But from now on it will be etched in my head.
-
Even I feel a little violated at this point goin on a lot smoother then I thought so far probably won't be able to start it up gonna let the gaskets sit over night but new -old motor goin in tonight should be all set and buttoned up in the next couple hours. But man how it hurts to pull this nice shiny piece of scrap metal now to put In an old aged piece that's all greased up and staind not enough time to clean it up but it's only temporary just gonna be like an eye sore to me.

Ran into first issue hopefully only one. Of course new motor came of automatic so clutch bearing can't wait till morning to take a chance on gm having once so last minute trip to part store for new clutch since that's the only option for me. I'll keep you guys posted
-
Good news the old motor is FORGED from what I can source back to on the Internet. And I know It's the Internet can't believe everything you read but same info in a few places
-
You better slap you some rods in that bad boy. And some pistons while you are in there.
-
Ouch that's got to hurt but with 17 pounds of boost it had to pull like a team mules before it let go.
I hope you get it fixed good luck
