Crazy story....
So got up yesterday about 9am or so and everyone but John Henry and Aimee had already left the hotel. We hopped in the Slingshots and went to The Hole in The Wall for breakfast. After breakfast the four of us went for a ride around Blairsville. John seen a sign that said ICE CREAM and decided to pull over...cuz hell it's never to early for ice cream. So we stumbled across this place called PAPPY'S PLACE. It was kind of a weird place with a bunch of buildings, an out house, chickens and a bunch of life like mannequins all over the place. The place was pretty dead. It had a creepy wax museum/Hills have eyes vibe going on.
So as we are walking around checking this place out, @j4henry sees a sign that says GRANDADDY MIMMS MOONSHINE DISTILLERY AND TASTING.
We walk in and can instantly smell sour mash.
The owner "Louie" says that by law he can't sell us any shine on Sunday but we can pay for the tour and he can give us "free" jars of shine.
So after sampling some of the smoothest tasting shine I have ever had, he takes us on a tour of the place. In his big building out front that he plans on opening soon, he had the bar from Coyote Ugly, the truck from Beverley Hillbillies, a truck that used to belong to Popcorn Sutton and all other kinds of cool stuff.
Well while we are looking around, Charlie asked to use the rest room. Louie showed her where it was and when she came out she shows me what has to be at least a 4 karat diamond earing that she found on the floor in the ladies room. She asked me if I thought it was real and I told her to scratch it on glass and if it cuts then it is real. She tested it out on an old display case and sure enough it was real! She told Louie what she had found and he was so grateful that he invited all 4 of us up to his house...an 18 bedroom, 21 bath mansion on 180 acres in the mountains complete with a 5000 bottle wine cellar, indoor pool, library, and walk in cigar humidor.
Then he takes us into his bar area and gets a $10,000 bottle of cognac and pours us a shot.
After chit chatting with him for a good portion of the afternoon he took us back the the distillery where we spent the rest of the evening tubing down the river.
YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS SHYT UP!
More pics...
So you guys hold out on the cool stuff until we all leave....Nice
Great find - we will have to make it a destination stop on our next trip.
Sad part of the story is that I lost my Oakleys in the river.
Pretty sure with a shot of $10k cognac you are still in the green. How many of us can say we ever tasted anything that expensive.
@Bill Martin the whole bottle was 10k a 250$ shot of liquor was by far the smoothest id ever tasted!! Louie was one of the craziest nicest guys we've met..... and we will for sure meet up with them again maybe in key west next time
WTF..... damn it... no idea that stuff was there .. Now that's a cool way to end the trip.
I was wondering why you guys left so late on Sunday. Now we know!
for once karma wasnt a bitch......
