Does anyone use 87 octane on a regular basis in their SS?

  • from what I understand you can find non ethanol in California, but it is very rare - only like 23 stations in the entire State

for all practical purposes all gas in California is 10% ethanol - from what I understand California requires gas to be "oxygenated" and due to its oxygen content adding ethanol is the easiest way to meet this requirement.

there are also some E-85 options, but they are also very rare

  • Georgetown, S.C. 1 mile from my house. I refuse to run ethanol unless I have to I will not support that ripe off. I even run 93 non in my lawn mower and yard tools

This is something we just proved here, my neighbor and I bought the same snowblower the same day/same model and everything(group buy type thing) he has been using 87 while I have been using 91 ethanol free and mine has been trouble free, always starts and never had an issue while his struggle and has had several issues spark plugs etc etc.

He disassembled his and it had a TON of carbon build up inside the engine, we did mine to compare and the carbon build up was negligible, we did several passes of seafoam and cleaned his and now he says he is switching everything to premium ethanol free.

Ethanol free gas from a good brand will keep all your engines running longer with less problems.

Is not that I am mean, I just don't sugarcoat what I say.

  • was just looking at the list of ethanol free stations I linked in my post above and realized there is a location only 51 miles from me by the salton sea at the Red Earth casino that has 110 octane ethanol free - - - might have to try it some day

    That sounds like aviation fuel.

I have been told its racing fuel, but either way its a very odd location to sell either - no where near a race track and not very close to an airport either - - just a very small Indian casino out away from pretty much everything - -

racing engines are designed for high octane....I doubt if a regular engine would withstand the extra heat from burning that gas.

  • I ran 87 for 2 years then I caved to ridicule and such and ran highest you can get in my area 91. I have noticed no difference mpg performance it is the same. I have no power adds. These fancy computers adjust the timing and such to accommodate lower octane. I know higher is better just saying my SS could care less lol.

By the time I save up for mods, I have to buy another rear tire :cursing:

It's on Indian Land may not be subject to as many rules and just easier to handle.
