A and b are the known values...
a2 is 4 x 4 or 16
b2 is 3 x 3 or 9
16+9 = c2 or 25
so c (or x in the equation) is the square of 25 or 5
Moving right along... in reality I have only used that a few times building something to make sure the length was correct for the slope on a deck roof or something like that... We also used it a bunch placing guide wires on telephone poles... anyway... back to the joke...

Perry Mason was my hero when I was a kid and made me want to be a lawyer. I always loved how he made people confess to the crime on the stand. Unfortunately, I’m the real world, I figured out that it NEVER happens. 😩😩
