I have an irritating squeal that sounds like it is coming from the front muffler area. But noises and where they are originating from can be difficult to pin point. When I start out I hear the squeal/screach when accelerating but then it goes away. Most prevalent in gears 1 thru 3. I plan on installing the 1320 header and variable exhaust when it becomes available. I am hoping that fixes it. Any ideas what could be causing this? 2015 SL with no modifications. I did change the rear end oil with 75/140 Royal Purple but that did nothing. Oh, I have 18,000 miles but this started around 16,000.
Squeal on initial accelaration in several gears

Exhaust system secure? All the muffler springs attached? Is ride shifting okay, smooth clutch operation?
-
Dirty drive belt?
-
Squeals are usually belts...open the hood and listen while you rev it

Sounds like when my stock muffler internals gave out .... sounded a whole lot like a slipping belt on acceleration but it was the plates inside the muffler vibrating at a high frequency after the welds gave out.....

With it cold, lightly slap the muffler & keep your hand on it. See if you can feel something vibrating inside. If so, you may have a cracked weld inside the muffler.

Thanks for the replies. I will was it real good tomorrow or maybe have the wife wash it. Springs are all fastened and tight and I did not feel or hear anything rattling in the muffler when I tapped it with a rubber mallet.

I get a squeal when the belt is cold or when I first leave out in the SS in the mornings. It will squeal thru first and second gear but then will stop

I had a squeal and I have the 1320 with an unbaffeled Up. Changed the gaskets and it didn't go away. Took my dealer tech for a ride and he couldn't figure it out either. Got frustrated and took her (my SS) home to clean her up good and see if I good locate an exhaust leak. Amazingly the squeal went away after she was washed. I made sure the belt got cleaned also. Seems that really is the culprit. At least on mine.

I think the Minnow might get this one..grab a beer and watch your wife wash it. Then tell her it's not good enough and wash it again. Meanwhile make sure she doesn't start drinking your beer while you are now working. Then say I need turkey pot pie and go for a ride.
