Alpha Powersports Luggage Racks

  • Here is my honest review and opinion of the Alpha Powersports Luggage Racks. http://www.slingmods.com/exter…s-system-alpha-powersport

I found these to be very easy to install and they follow the contour of the Slingshot well. Some may want color matching options but the black powder coat goes with all colors and is durable, that being said for the price color options should be available. Out of all the products out currently this one looks to be the most practical and affordable. That being said I still feel the price point is too high for what the product really is, yes the concept and prototyping etc.. costs money. However I feel that somewhere in the $400-$500 max is the proper range for such a product. They will do the job and can be easily removed when not being used, which is great! If you have some weight further out from the mounting point area out toward the back of the slingshot it will easily flex downward. I would have liked to see a slightly thicker gauge if I had a choice. Now they recommend 50lbs I would say they will handle 60-80lbs safely. I could see them having failures around 150-200lbs.

I personally was a little frustrated finding luggage. I tried 5 different brands and sizes in hopes to find one that would fit. You only have 17 1/2" inside diameter (17 3/8" at the back plate slightly tapered in, not sure if that is a flaw or design) and you could put around 30" comfortably lengthwise ( you lose about an inch on the mounting side because of the quick release handle ). I would have liked for these racks to be 1 1/2" to 2" wider to give you more luggage options. For long trips like the Smokies for me I want room to pack stuff and room to bring stuff home

I chose to go with a hard case so that if it rains my belongings will stay dry, originally I wanted to go with these
29" long 17" wide ( However they were measuring inside ) The feet they have on the side and the handle adds too much and they are basically 20" wide

My next thought was to order these 25" 16"

So credit to my father for saying lets go check out Walmart  They just so happened to carry the same brand iFly and the color was even better for me. I measured them with the tape measure and I brought them home for a test fit. The couple small differences between the Amazon ones and the Walmart ones were the wheels on the Walmart model are not as nice and the handles are slightly different ( more flexible on the Amazon ones and two points have reinforced corners). So different models the ones Amazon show are slightly better for the reasons stated in my opinion but not enough to matter for me. For $69 each and the style and functionality I challenge someone to find a better setup/deal.

Here is the end result and I am happy they are a perfect fit and look great!

Side note is PRP smoking crack selling custom bags that fit the contours of the Alpha luggage racks for $400 ?:00007956:

I would say if you wanted that custom fit soft case marine vinyl $200-$250 MAX look at your options first!

Hope this helps everyone make a decision and let me know what you think!
    Thanks!

  • Just bought 2 black dry bags for kayaking from Amazon for 59.00 dollars and going to attach to roll hoops for wife and I to travel with.
We both traveled long distance for years and have learned not to bring kitchen sink.
Her friends laugh when she travels with them and they carry this huge suitcases and she comes in with little hand carried bag from bike trips.LOL

  • Amazon and had Unigear...The 30L size was 29. each. Did google search and found them on amazon.
They are not as heavy as the ( yellow) ones for my kayak but will be good enough for SS travel.
k we will put our carry travel bag inside the dry bag and put drier sheets inside not to have rubber smell.
Going to turn bag inside out and try and help with some of rubber smell.

I might suggest 40L bag I bought 30 and now wish I had bought larger size at 34. each.
