Curious if anyone with an Alpha variable exhaust has extended the exhaust pipe and routed out the back.
Anyone with Alpha Variable exhaust route piping out the back?

I have a new one comming in that I might route out the back. I previously had a custom exhaust that ran out the back that I liked. If I do it, I'll post it.

Would appreciate it if you go that route.
I installed mine this past week.
I really notice the exhaust fumes (especially when stopped at a light) with the CAT removed and would much prefer the exhaust dump out the back.
For me, All of the other fun benefits are being outweighed by the fumes collecting in the passenger area.
I suspect this would be the case with any aftermarket exhaust that removes the CAT and dumps exhaust under the passenger side.
Noise and fun factor is way up but ride-ability and enjoy-ability are way down.

This is extension I had welded up to the other one. You just weld it to the exit of the pipe and weld up a bolt to the bottom of the frame.

I'd be interested in seeing if this works also. I've got the Alpha Variable. Hopefully getting a supercharger installed at DDM this week and would like to run the Alpha open more often. Too loud currently to run it that way consistently for me but running it out the back should move the sound and quiet it some. I don't have any issues with fumes. This might be the result of, shroud, all holes covered in firewall, madstadt windscreen and hose vents running inside fenders.

I ran the rear exit with a MagnaFlow muffler that I was real pleased with for a little over a year. The Supercharger laid it to waste, nothing left on the inside for sound. The rear works great unless you have a top. The top causes a vacuum that will pull the air back in from the rear.

With my air suspension... I have to stick with the current setup... otherwise I would slam that pipe on the ground many many times

Yeah, I need to take some time to cover all the holes in the firewall.
Have been thinking of various venting options as well.
What about rigging up the scoops/funnels as tubing that ports air into the cockpit in a few places? Should add to the air turbulence and movement in the cockpit, and push the fumes out (except for when at all stop, obviously).

@Live-a-Little!, @Slingrazor, @Flybuddy - do you guys all still have your variable exhaust? Or know anyone who does? Mine is giving a wicked rattle when I hit the button, and I'm not sure how to get to the flapper valve. Going on the Alpha site next.
Didn't someone post on how to do maintenance on it? Can't find the thread. @Tripod, do you remember? My search skills are failing me.

I got rid of my variable exhaust when I added the DDM super charger.
Henry did say carbon can build up on the flapper shaft (

Although sometimes the flapper does stick, right now it's rattling around, like something might be loose. Or maybe it's just stuck in a weird position from the carbon build-up, and rattling on the pivot points.
Would love to know how to clean it. There's no mention of it on their website, and Slingmods just has the install pages.

Might be some carbon build--
@KayTwo had mines for a while and then it stopped mechanically working. Henry at Alpha walked me through how to remove the motor to check it... it's been a while but I believe it's three screws that hold the mechanical motor to the muffler. I removed it and checked to make sure the motor was operating properly. Inside the muffler is a GEAR that activates the door to open or close. Use your hand to see if that gear can be moved easily and if you hear that same noise... if it's hard to move you might have some carbon build up. Use some WD-40 or something like that to spray into that gear area... loosening and dissolving some of that stuff to make it easier to open and close it. That should solve the noise your hearing.
I don't have that muffler any more. After I went Supercharged .. I eventually went to the Alpha Side Exhaust. Hope this helps!
