So I was doing bout 80 when this car wanted to race, in a rush I downshifted and missed a gear🤦🏼♂️
Loud grinding noice but I continue on highway just waiting. Radio loud and drove bout another 6miles with no problems. I turn down radio and hear a loud grinding/ whistling noise when I let off . What did I do😕

I was riding with one of the guys in Maggie Valley 2 years ago....He put deiseal (8 gals) in the Slingshot. We did catch it before he start the Slingshot so we we able to siphon it out before we had a problem. Most every thing is fixable.

Sounds like a synchronizer in the transmission isn't happy. Can you go up and down all of the gears?
Drive it easy on a back road, don't go fast, but get up to 5th gear, then start down shifting and go back down the gears as you slow down.

Yes it drives fine. Drove it like I stole it after that. I’ll give that ride a try tomm. The what in the transmission 😂😂

Modern transmissions have synchronizer gears to allow smooth shifting between gears, so that the RPMs don't have to exactly match the gear you are going into. Sometimes they are called synchromesh transmissions.
Some people have issues with their synchros and didn't even grind a gear, they are prone to failure in our slingshots.

Ahhh, so dealer just replaces them or some type of adjustment?

A synchro requires a complete tear down of the transmission. Is the SS still under warranty? If so, shouldn’t be as much question by Polaris. If not, you might want to find a good independent mechanic unless you are capable of pulling the transmission and rebuilding or replacing it yourself.

Yes. The (Solstice) transmission has issues on occasion. Usually 3rd gear synchro I believe.

It was the 4th-5th synchro on mine that has a problem on mine.
Robbym just take it into your dealer and have them take a look. Be prepared to leave it for a while (possibly wait until riding season is over). The engine has to be pulled to get the transmission out, due to how Polaris built the frame.

Not sure what part of the country you are in. If the Slingshot is 'running' OK you might want to hold off a little --- wait for the 'winter' weather to take it in for the service.

Not being an @$$, but you say it was 4th - 5th issue. Any chance you pulled it partially into REVERSE and when you let up on the clutch it damaged parts inside? When you came off the clutch, it not being fully into reverse, it quickly popped into neutral so it felt like you totally missed the shift? About the only good thing is that if your dealer just hears it as being a bad transmission, they willprobably replace it under warranty. But if it was to be torn down to see what the failure was, they could deny coverage as being misuse. Wish you the best of luck getting it fixed without costing you

I if wait to end of season will it hurt it more? Like I said it runs as if nothing even happen except to little Whistling noise when I let off the gas. Soon as I step on gas again it goes away.
Btw. That shift up to 5th gear going slow then downshift what am I looking when I do it?

Just to see if it hangs. When mine started acting up, I can't downshift from 5th to 4th, just won't go into gear. I can bump third without letting out the clutch and then it goes into 4th just fine.
If it is a synchro, having problems shifting into a particular gear would be a sure fire way to tell.

Yea drove it back home after it happen for bout 30miles with NO issues. Slamming gears again . Upshift downship etc. ran good

When you go to the dealer, LIE THRU YOUR TEETH!!!! If you mention "other guy", "race" or "hurried shift", you're done.
Tell them you were giving a little old lady a ride to church (or bingo).

I was just going to say...."Trans sounds funny, can you check it out." I wouldn't lie to the tech just don't over explain a street race.
