Brought my Sling in due to Brake Failure light going on. Got a brake fluid level sensor error. They want a few hundred dollars to replace/fix.
How easy/hard is it to replace brake fluid level sensor?

Those are a warranty replacement....many here have had it done several times.....
WTF? Unless I'm wrong (and I was once already this decade) I would run as far away from that dealer as possible. They probably either pop in and out of a rubber grommet, or they are a 1/4 turn into place. Even if they were to charge you a full 1/2 hour labor at $120 per hour $60.00 plus the two sensors @ $33.79 each and your own 12 oz bottle of brake fluid $10.00, your total cost would only be under $150.00 IMHO, anything over $125 would be an indication of a dealership out to make money over customer satisfaction. (I know this may sound harsh, but I owned my own auto repair shop for years and never took advantage of customers just to inflate a work order. There were times that I wouldn't bother to charge labor for any repair that took less than .2 hours)
Bigdog, I think you're thinking of the brake PRESSURE switches and he's talking about the brake fluid level switches
Ok we’ll do both.
Pretty easy....

.
He said it was the brake fluid level sensor, not the brake MC pressure sensor switches .... which would make sense since he stated it threw a code, the pressure sensors don't .....
If that is in fact correct the parts are around $70 for both ... probably much less if you can cross reference the actual part numbers with a car manufacturer rather than Polaris ....
Then they simply unplug from the harness and twist/pull out of the top of the MC .. maybe 5 minutes for each which includes opening a beer ....
Parts number 10....

Is your slingshot under warranty? Still should be a warranty item I would think if it’s under two years......
Funinthesun. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on this. My thoughts are that I should be able to pop the two out and pop the two new ones in with a minimal loss of fluid and should not need to bleed the system.
What got me worried is they quoted 2 hours of labor so I posted this because I was afraid there was more to it in the Slingshot than I knew.
Their price is $40 per switch.
Just buy one sensor....I highly doubt both are bad.....they are right on top no fluid should even come out.
I would pull them out and check them with an ohm meter.... verify one is not working before you order one...
If they test OK, then focus on the pins in the connector to make sure the wire is not pulled out...
Bigdog. Better yet! One more question. Will the codes automatically clear, do I disconnect the battery to clear, or something else?
W0GEN. Will do.

So you want to do it twice? RIGHT

It should clear after a few drive cycles.....if not disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Don't understand what you are asking... sorry please clarify?

Did not know you could check without rotating the master cylinder

Talking about bench testing the level switches. They would be unplugged and removed to check out. You can manually operate the levels, they likely use a magnetic reed switch, with the float having the magnet.... if life is good, maybe one of the floats is stuck and just needs a parting line scraped.
