Texas no longer allowing registration of kit cars?

Big Giant THUMBS DOWN! -
As the article asks - What happens when someone decides to revoke registration of modified vehicles? Who determines what is an acceptable mod? What about TCs or SCs? Retroactive registration revocation is a very slippery slope.

That's way too extreme and hopefully they'll figure that out after some pushback. Some of the current rails probably do need to be off road only but it's crazy to lump them in all together. Older style dune buggies were nothing more than VWs in disguise. Up until recently I had this 1969 factory built Empi Imp and I had to have it registered as a kit car.

In Indiana as I understand it, they cannot revoke titles that they have granted. They have a grandfather clause here. That's part of the reason I wanted to get my Slingshot as soon as I could. They do have (read it somewhere, thinking it was IndianaDMV.org) an exception to that if the title goes to changing hands, but they will honor the original title until then. I feared that at some point, they might decide that the SS was really a car with a swing arm and 3 wheels, and would need the safety requirements that cars have. As for the kits cars, I know of two sand rails (tubed frame, no body) that are registered as VW's, and one as a Pontiac 6000. The Pontiac one was a 2.8 V6, originally a FWD. The engine was moved to the rear, and the steering disabled somehow. Other than that it was a basic sand rail. The 2.8 moved it down the road very well.
@Flybuddy that is the style of rim I'd like to get for my SS. I think it would mix the radical look of the SS with old school very well.

It does @Goats_Hogs! Referring to the rims... Mine are somewhat like that, old school Mustang look...
I opted for gloss black with the polished lip... Mickey Thompson SC-5. The rear 20 inch is a 45mm offset

Thanks for the link! I didn't know you could still buy Torq-thrust. I had a friend that had a vintage set on a '69 Grand Prix. I always loved that look, but needed bigger than 15" for the SS. Many nice rims on that link!

@Goats_Hogs you can also take a look at http://www.getyourwheels.com.
If you call ask for Jason Tung. He has done several SS now. Did mine. and did some awesome retro creger looking ones on another guys.
They can do custom offsets.
He did my 20x12 that I put my 345 on. Still centered with 45 offset.
