Does anyone know where the black box for the OEM stereo is located, if Polaris sells them separately, and how much they cost? My head unit displays properly, but no.signal coming out to the Alpine amp. Trying to decide if it is worth it to replace it or buy new stereo.

Thanks. Couldn't find anything stereo related in the shop manual

According to the Polaris Parts House diagram (2015 Polaris SLINGSHOT ALL OPTIONS (T15AAS/AAP) Electrical, Sound System T15aap All Options (49Slingshotsound14sling) | Babbitts Polaris Partshouse), that is listed there as # 11 and is available as an exchange part only. Time to spring for a new unit. Just about anything should be better.

Now for the next question. My mind is numb from looking at all the stereo options. Need advice on a decent unit that is weather resistant and back up camera compatible. Don't need or really want a disc option of any sort and don't want to spend several hundreds of dollars. Just need something that basically does the same thing as the OEM.

I have been considering some units on Amazon. Search for marine stereo and see what is offered. Kenwood and Sony offer several units at very good pricing.

Amazon is mainly what numbed my brain. Anything specif8c that you've found or have?

i originally purchased the Lanzar round AM/FM radio from Amazon since it supports video display on its relatively small 2.5" or display (Amazon.com: Lanzar AQR80B Aquatic Waterproof Bluetooth Marine Digital Receiver Stereo Radio, USB/MP3/AM/FM/AUX Input, Round/Circle: Cell Phones & Accessories) and was going to pair it with a Clarion XC2410 amp, but I switched to a simple Boss MC900B Bluetooth Amp since it was a direct-connect to the Slingshot radio wiring and didn't require the direct-battery connection the Clarion amp required. The Lanzar unit was rated 3 stars. If I really wanted a marine radio with display, and were doing it over again, I'd consider the Pyle PLMR94W which is basically the same unit, but is rated 1/2 star higher. Pyle also makes this radio in Black, but lists it as currently unavailable on its website. Amazon also carries this Pyle unit which Pyle lists as having audio/video in/out display capability - Amazon.com: Pyle PATVR14 Marine Bluetooth Audio/Video Receiver - Water Resistant A/V Stereo Headunit, Color LCD Display, USB Reader: Cell Phones & Accessories, but it has no reviews.
Amazon used to carry several standard marine radios with a display capability, but they no longer seem to be on the market.
If you should choose to try one of the Pyle/Lanzar round radios, I have a custom aluminum mounting plate I designed and had cut with a water-jet. It also has a small storage hole made from some PVC pipe and a small digital voltmeter hole. I attached a couple of pics of the mounting plate.I still have the radio and the mounting plate. If anyone's interested, I'll sell the radio (mounted and removed form the plate, but never used), the storage piece, the digital voltmeter (again, installed and removed, but never used) and the mounting plate for $90 + shipping. PM me, if interested. I also posted a copy of the mounting plate layout that should print a full-size mounting template.
The storage cubby is a little crude, but works.
I should also add that the Pyle and Lanzar units are not equipped with RCA outs for an amp, so if you want to use with an amp, an amp with speaker-level inputs or a converter is needed.

My amazon search is several months old so I don't know what is still listed but looked at:
JVC KD-R85
Infinity PRV 350
Kenwood KMR-D362BT and the KMR-D765BT
Sony Mex-M70BT
I too got a little overwhelmed by too many choices and the fact they are all single din. My current thinking is getting Rock and Jdin direct wire my Garmin GPS with XM radio to the factory unit and add better speakers. If that doesn't satisfy, back to Amazon. I just put "marine stereo" in the search box back then and checked ratings of 4 stars and above. Keep us posted, especially on a double din faceplate for single din unit at a decent price (hint to forum). -
Thanks guys. I want to try and stick with a double DIN if I can. I'll look more today.
-
Would I need an adapter plate to mount a double DIN unit or any special hardware?
-
At least one Double Din mounting case with a water cover is available at a cost of around $150-170, IIRC. I think @rabtech used one and at least one other person did, too, but I can't remember if he posted here or on TDS. I don't remember if the DD mount required any additional mods to make it fit properly. I do remember someone mounting a DD mount on top of the plastic work and then redid it so it was installed from within for better looks.

I'm having the same old problems as everyone else with my factory radio (it can only pick up 1 station). I'm therefore considering replacing it, but suspect that I will also have to replace the reversing camara too. I so can anybody advise me of the way to go about this, or can it the one that is already fitted, as standard to the SL, be adapted to fit standard camara inputs on a radio?
I'm also considering using the SlingMods' double din adapter plate

With a "non waterproof" radio. I suspect that in the lovely British rain this may not be a good move. Can anyone advise how well the covering plate works keeping water out?Possible radio that I wish to use in link below.

Possible radio that I wish to use in link below.
Well I've placed my order for the above. I first spoke with Will at SlingMods and he told me that the cover wasn't totaly waterproof but should keep off showers, so when the radio arrives I'll place an order for the mounting plate and I'll also located a decent shade to go on the top (to help keep the water off).
I also intend to get the adapter to use the Polaris camara with the radio.
I'm impressed with the spec's as it has 2 camara inputs so I may mount an additional one at the front, for tight spaces. It can operate as an Android phone (either mirroring my existing cell phone or totaly independently with its own sim-card. Full GPS functions and even an option for digital TV.
On top of all that, we have also digital radio transmission, in Europe, in addition to FM & AM.

This gives an enormous selection of stations and also has the best sound that you will find on a car radio, right now. I'm also getting the decoder that goes with the radio so that I have that function all built into the system.Price: Just a little over $250 USD including delivery to the UK.
Looks like I now have a project for the spring.
