I had a buddy just purchase a 2022 model and he wants to add lights to it. he has a couple of extra toggle switch places on his dash. my question is what is the best way to remove the blank outs and run the wires and add the switch. I have always removed my dash to be able to reach mine and do some work. can the radio be removed to get this done? i have a 2017 model not sure about the new ones.

Trooper the radio can be removed (easily on my 2016) or, if they are the same as mine, you can use a plastic interior removal tool to catch the outside edge and pry it out. You can get a set of these tools at Harbor Freight for about $7.
thank you, just wasn't sure if the 2021 or 2022 models were the same as the older ones. I am going bto try to go through the radio area and see if that will work

From what I've heard the dash on the new models is a real bear to remove and work on.

Not too bad, just few extra pieces to remove and the infotainment system is actually bolted at top with 2 bolts which you can't see until you remove the plastic covers?

The tech at my dealer said he would take the time to show me how to take the dash apart.

that might be a good idea to take him up on that offer, and bring the knowledge back to us

You might want to check DDM or Slingmods to see if they sell an item that needs the dash dismantled. If they do the item my include instructions.

I was wanting to mount a post for the mirror and my cell phone. I just went ahead and used the rubber blind nuts to mount it. Nothing I ever take apart goes back together and looks right. The older slings you could get to the area through the firewall. You can't on the 2020+. The tech told me that they didn't like the change as it added a lot of time with having to dismantle the dash.

Trooper It isn't too hard to get into the dash on the 2020+ models (albeit its more difficult than the 2015-2019). This is the link to the instructions for the new accessory power switches. It has instructions on how to get to it through the dash to install it.

that's one pricey switch.

Yes looks exactly the same procedure as earlier models.

Yeah but thats the switch that includes the power harness. The basic switch is this one:

Yes but the older models could be accessed from behind from through the engine compartment, and you could remove the ride command from the front without removing the dash. The new models basically require the dash to be removed to mess with any of that.

There is another option. You can order a 5 switch kit from slingmods that mounts on the left side of your steering wheel. 0n the 2020+ models you have to drill a hole in the plastic cover of the steering wheel but it fits perfectly. this gives you 5 switches you can add all kinds of junk with. I put one i had on my 2021 that i took off my 19 and it fits and functions perfectly. Replacing or adding switches to a 19 or earlier is simple. Taking all that stuff apart just to get to ,one switch isn't worth it to me. But good luck.
