They already have one, Ford GT but priced way out of most peoples $$$$$$ range.

exactly - the original 55, 56 & 57 T birds were very much direct competition for the Corvettes of the time. for whatever reason after 57 they decided it should move in a different direction. My mom actually had a used 56 in the early 60's it was a very cool little car
I personally think a 2 seat T-Bird that was direct competition is long overdue - frankly I have always been kind of suprised that Ford didn't want to play in that sandbox
