When working on your Slingshot, the stock hood opening angle makes it kinda difficult to work in the engine bay. Although there are several kits out there that allow the hood to open more, there is a totally free way to open the hood more and it takes just a minute or so to do.
On the side of the hood brackets that mount to the hood, there is a bolt and a nut. Use a 13mm socket to remove the nut on both sides of the hood.
Once the nut is removed on both sides, reach around the other side of the hood bracket and use a 13mm socket again to partially remove the bolt on the other side. The hood will not fall on you if you totally remove the bolt, so don't worry if you go too far.
With the bolt partially removed on both sides of the bracket, you will be able to push the hood open further. If the hood is not opening further, you need to back that bolt out a little more still.
Once the hood is pushed open further, use the 13mm socket to tighten that bolt until it is under the lip on the hood. That will keep the hood in the further open position.
That's it, with a powered impact it takes about 30 seconds to do and opens almost the exact amount as our hood extension kit. When you are ready to close the hood, just reverse the process and the hood closes just like stock.
If you want to open the hood this far all the time, we offer the easiest to open hood extension kit available for the Slingshot here -
