Track Daze

  • During a recent trip to the mountains FunCycle and some of the others in the group were sittin on the porch one afternoon talking about track days. I made the comment that I had contacted Barber's Motorsports Park near Birmingham multiple times in an effort to get some info on their track rental. While sitting there I attempted to contact them again and this time was able to get some information. *NOTE* There has to be a $5 million dollar insurance policy that can be obtained through Kraig Hopkins and it is an additional cost. We would definitely have to get a lot more people to participate than what came to Roebling Road to make it affordable enough for me to participate.

  • That is a beautiful facility and would be a blast but that is a lot of money. We have a hard time filling the field at Roebling Road and that was only $5,000 for the day all in. We would need in excess of 30 slingshots at $500 each just to cover the rental.

I wonder if they ran us as motorcycles instead of cars if the cost would be different.

We had the same problem trying to get time at VIR the cost was out of reach - and they wouldn't even consider us anyway.

Another option would be FIRM in northern Florida I think that might be even less expensive than Roebling Road.

We could also reach out to the Formula V group - maybe they would share the day. Or any other smaller group like us that can't cover the entire cost.

I think we should keep on trying as many options as possible - Track Days are tons of fun.

  • Barber is one of the nicest tracks in the southeast for a reason, they command a premium and it shows when you go to that track. Like MACAWS said, Barber would take a large commitment to make happen, but if we can pull it off, that would be an amazing experience I think for a lot of people.

Just before everything started to get shut down because of the Covid virus, there were some of us talking about setting up a date at Firm (https://gorally.com/), but we could also take a look at doing Carolina Motorsports Park (https://www.carolinamotorsportspark.com/). Another track is Little talladega (https://talladegagp.com/), that was were I did my first track day back in 1999, and of course we can go back to Roebling again also. I have a feeling I will be seeing MACAWS very soon and we can put together some options, would love to get out on the track again!

  • Forgot, there is another track that we have been to a lot, Atlanta Motorsports Park, north side of Atlanta, lots of elevation changes and is a lot of fun in highpower and low power cars, if I remember correctly their pricing is a little higher than the other, but not Barber level of pricing, super nice facility - https://atlantamotorsportspark.com/

  • Another great track is Summit Point - but again without a good showing it is a difficult track to get time. We could also reach out to the new facility in Virginia Dominion Race Complex. I know most people do not like oval tracks but many of them are affordable - South Boston Speedway is a possibility.

Some of the training facilities may also have open dates
