I have a '17 SRL with the Polaris head unit and speaker pods. I want to add to it. Is it possible to keep the head unit and add in the amp, another pair of speakers, and a sub, or will I have to get a new head unit? I don't know stereo stuff. From what I've been told, I'll need a 5-channel amp to run all the speakers, and I'm ok with that, but I'm not clear on how to get the signal from the head unit to the amp. Has anyone done this?
I want to install an amp, 2 more speakers, and a subwoofer. But can I run it off the Polaris head unit?

Possible? Yes,
Will it give you the best sound ? No
Can 95% of the people get by without noticing the difference if done right? Yes -
I'm ok with it not being concert-hall-quality. At 70 mph, it won't matter much to me - Ariana Grande's vibrato is going to be washed out by wind noise no matter what I install, I think. Has anyone done a walk-trough of how to connect the head unit to an amp? How does that work?

I did, I still have the Polaris radio and added the amp. A couple guys on here helped me with what I needed. I'll see if I can find the thread and let you know. Stand by...

OK, @TheRock helped me with mine, you'll need a converter, this is what I used..
I wired it as followed and then just ran the speaker wires to the amp. I currently have 2 front, 2 rear, 2 hip, and 2 added between the seat,...the waterfall speaker
plus you can get more info on the ssv rear speaker thread. Hope this helps -
SSVWorks headrest speaker boxes
not good with adding links, hope this works -
You could skip the converter also and get these.....http:// https://www.google.com/shopping/product/2497848017254549442?q=speaker+to+rca+rockford+fosgate&lsf=seller:1699011,rt:2&hl=en&lsft=gclid:CjwKCAiArOnUBRBJEiwAX0rG_b-vsGleXI0VbayJ3im31uG6RRaACeeaTM44abWe-MvS3rsWw3na0hoCiIMQAvD_BwE&prds=oid:18154341663810855922&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjpmIzUyNHZAhWOw4MKHSg6ASgQ8wIICQ

An amp that has variable audio inputs (speaker wire from existing radio as amp inputs) will work also. You have several options. The Schsche box basically turns speaker level variable inputs into regular inputs so you can use any amp you like. Lots of good choices.

The Alpine MRV-f300 is what I am using to drive 4 jl 6.5" and it sound great it has both low level and speaker input so if you use this one you won't need to buy a converter to use the stock radio.

@Shatneyman how do you like those waterfall speakers? What size speakers did you put in the waterfall?

Great advice above. You mention you want 4 speakers plus a sub. The best IMO way is a 5 channel amp, although you could do a 3 or 4 (if the 4 channel amp can bridge and you use 4 ohm speakers). Best, get a 5 channel amp, and make sure that it takes line level (speaker level) inputs -- that way no external adapter, and will be cleaner. You will pay a little more typically, but realistically not allot. In fact, if you search Amazon you can get a 5 channel with line input starting at $125 (I would go a little higher end....), and easily going to $500. My advice, I would get a Marine rated if possible, elevate off floor slightly, and stick with a good name brand (alpine, JL, Pioneer. etc). I have a JL 700/5 and it is great.....but may be more than you need. It does have allot of adjustability/crossovers built in, so unlikely to out grow. Alpine, Pioneer, and Rockford tend to have some good sweet spots.

Just so we are clear marine rated does not mean that it is in any way waterproof or water resistant just that it has a special coating to prevent rust if there is a high salt concentration in the air(like if you were to use it on a boat that will be in the ocean).
Make sure that you get an amp from a reputable brand and that it is a digital amp since they are smaller, more efficient and handle the "outdoors" better.
Here is a decent 5 channel

When buying speakers make sure that the "Surround" is make out of rubber and the cone is made out of anything but paper(bad for speaker exposed to the elements).
All New JL , Memphis Audio, Kicker, Rockford and Polk Audio have pretty much water proof speakers even if they don't say in the description based on the materials that they use.
I personally recommend Alpine Amps and JL speakers since I've had them for a year and my sling has been caught in the rain while parked/riding and I have water hosed the interior to get rid of excessive dust/dirt and directly hit the speakers and indirectly(splash) hit the amp and they all still work.

I really appreciate all the responses. This has helped me a LOT! Thank you all very much.

I haven't installed them yet, sling still torn apart
