When I was a kid in the late 1960s I think they were in the range of 2000 HP! Quite an advance! IIRC, they also started running two-speed transmissions, at least for a while.
I remember in late 63 or early 64 I got to see TV Tommy Ivo go over 200mph at Union Grove Wisconsin, smoked the tires all the way down the strip.I was hooked on drag racing.
I've been to a NASCAR race, dirt track races and Superbike races. I've never been to an official drag race. I cannot comprehend how fast these cars are.
