I don't any social media. And definitely try to keep all my information close to my vest. If I get text or emails I don't recognize, I don't open them just delete them. Same with phone calls.

I think there's a difference when an adversary is collecting data to identify soft targets for the purpose of military, technology and/or business interests. I admit I was shocked when this stuff came to light, and it originally stated removing Tic-toc from government devices? It should have been fully understood that no unauthorized content is to ever be used on a government platform period.

I don't have any social media on any phone and don't do or keep anything on my personal phone that I wouldn't care if a stranger saw but that's me.

My wife does all that crap but has as tight security as possible and doesn't use it for any private business. She also has a seperate "work phone" .

I would never assume to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do.

I still use a flip phone. I will not buy a smart phone for these same reasons. I use this app. Amazon and u=tube and that is all with the exception of Netflix and Motor Trend on my lap top. No banking or business conducted either.

but everything on tik Tok is also in several other media sources - - and those other sources are not being challenged - you got face book reels you got YouTube - - literally there is nothing I wont be able to watch if tomorrow Tik Tok is gone

also as I pointed out above - what if using the Tik Tok app comes with giving a foreign government full access to everything on your phone including the use of the microphone and camera? - - - if there was even a 50% chance of this would you want that app on your Childs phone? how about a 25% chance? - - someone could access that camera and watch and listen? - - you say there is no proof, but would you risk the security of children knowing it was even just a suspicion this could happen just because there was no proof? - - especially knowing as we do that your child can watch all of these things on a source that is not owned by China?

Im the exact opposite - for someone my age I am probably much more tech savvy than most, I take pride in knowing how tech works and knowing how to use it. And even more importantly how to use it to my advantage to enhance my life and my families security - - I have no desire whatsoever to be that old guy stuck the past and missing out on the innovation going on around me.

that is a lot of "ifs". For me personally, it Tik tok was gone, I would not care. I don't watch it at all.

With all the technology out there now, you might as well dump it all, as the "ifs" could be happening with pretty much any app out there. You can't get away from it. Even if it wasn't China, it could be the US government spying on you, or Russia, or Mexico or whoever. I will not live my life in fear of technology. If they want to steal my contacts, they will, and I can't stop them. If a thief wants to steal something, they will find a way to bypass security to do it.

My point, if there is that much proof that it's a threat, shut it down. But they haven't, and it's been talked about for a while.

back to my point, then shut it down if it's a risk. If not move on.

Discussions, votes, question answer periods, just delay shutting it down and make it seem like it's not that much of a security risk, but more of a political agenda.

Not shutting it down could also be more of a political agenda. Who would it piss off, would it have effected their vote in the midterms, and who would loose their 10% from China .........

As stated they where given a chance to come in to compliance with our laws (by two opposing administrations) they didn't, so as of this week it is now banned on all Government devices (legally not just a policy) and I don't doubt is short lived in this country and the EU as they have also violated the Internet privacy laws over there. But not to worry, with the moves your Government has made recently I am sure you don't have to worry yourself about it.

Oh and you might want to find new reference material since the Cambridge Dictionary just changed the definition of a woman (paraphrasing here) to anyone who says they are a woman. Facts seem to no longer be important to them.

From what I know about the law to ban tic tock, the ban would only apply to US government phones and equipment. It does not address what any private citizen can do or not do.
