So I got a recall email today regarding the clockspring. According to the site: The coil harness may not have been centered when it was wound, and, as a result, after the air bag is installed, turning the steering wheel may cause the cable to tear.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the cable tears, the driver's air bag may not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
My god!! The airbag might not deploy! Should I quit driving the Slingshot? Oh wait.. Slingshots don't have airbags. Whew!! Now I don't have to worry about getting injured in a crash. I feel better now.
For the record, thwe recall is real. But the email came from Amazon. The clockspring is the aftermarket one I bought because I didn't leave the nut on a couple threads when I pulled the steering wheel. The notice can be read here: | Safercar | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
