I remember there was a few cases of rodent based bubonic plague in the US about a decade ago. Crazy stuff like this happens all the time...even for things we have vaccines for. Just saying.

There are a few cases of this in the southwest US every year. Squirrels carry the fleas, and unlike other rats, tree rats look cute & fluffy, so moronic campers & hikers feed them... with predictable results.
Good news is that this bacterial infection is easily controlled with modern antibiotics.
