both Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles are impressive birds. Up at Big Bear lake there is a place called the Big Bear Alpine zoo and they have animals there that have been rescued from injuries and such. One of the most impressive is their Golden eagle who was apparently nursed back to health, but can not be returned to the wild - - standing next to this bird in its enclosure it is very impressive how big it actually is - one thing about the view from this nest camera is that there is nothing in the view that makes it easy to determine the actual size of things - its not until I think about the fact that each of these adults birds is probably over 30 inches tall and both easily walk around in that nest that I start to understand how large it must be

Did you know that the average Bald Eagles nest weighs around 2000 pounds and the largest on record was over 3 tons?

not sure if its true, but one of the moderators on the eagle camera site was saying that the baby is probably already over 4 pounds in weight

Cold wet mixed with snow - - as bad as it looks Bald Eagles are built for this, with over 7000 feathers and a core body temperature of 105 degrees this is "riding weather'

and now finally a break in the rain so they can feed the little butterball

here is one more screen shot - its not a good shot, but it show the unhatched egg. I grabbed this for size perspective - - you can get an idea of how big the chick is by the egg - bald eagle eggs are just a bit larger than a big chicken egg

Well, my wife loves watching these Eagles - we literally turn on the live feed on our 55 inch tv in the living room when we get up in the morning and leave it on most of the day just so she can see what's up whenever she wants - - learning more about Bald Eagles than I ever thought I would

looks like mom and dad ran out to get some breakfast

for the chick it requires measurements to be taken. If they decide to band the chick they will do them then, but from what they are saying the probably won’t band this chick so we probably won’t know
