Or just over 100 lengths. Way off wokka !

Thanks again Kyle D . It sounds like I'll get the chance to check those 1/4 mile times in Sundre, Alberta next week.

Let me know how you do whether in a post or a PM. I never got to take mine in a 1/4mi while it was NA so I am guessing based off what I was doing at 6psi. But I am really interested in how you do so keep me posted! It would be good data to have.

Just out of curiosity Kyle D , how many lengths lead would a N/A Sling need to compete with you? Slingshot lengths, not Titanic lengths...

Lets use the numbers from the Slingshot I used for the NA testing. Bone stock that Sling was at 163whp and after the intake, headers, exhaust, and tune we ended up at 170whp so let's go with 170whp. At 170whp, with a decent driver, and sticky tires, on not too hot of a day at sea level, that slingshot is going to trap somewhere in the high 14s to low 15s in a 1/4mi and be lucky to trap 90-100mph. At that power level in a 1/2mi the NA Slingshot is going to be drag limited long before I am and I would guesstimate that in a 1/2mi the NA Sling wouldn't be too far past 100-110mph mark. Based off that info and the power level I am at, I guess that it would need pretty close to a 1/4mi gap to be competitive. But again, this is all speculation and educated guesses.

So how do you know when the cables are adjusted correctly. Do you adjust the cable towards the rear first or the one for the front. Cause I tried the front first but the the rear doesn't unlatch. Any tips would be appreciated or is this adjustment a trial and error deal?

You want to just take out all of the slack. The wire doesn't need to be high wire tight. It just needs to not have slack. Take the slack out of all 4 cables and you should be back in business. I found with mine the cables going to the latches near the windshield typically need more adjustment than the fronts. Don't over think it. Loosen the nuts, back the threaded rod out a bit to remove the slack, and tighten the nuts back up.

I'll be filling in for Tripod for the rest of the week. laugh-squared

I'm going to play devil's advocate here even though you posted this as a friendly rant. While I am sure kev will post the new product here, the reality is in this forum, for the most part, there is a list of usual suspects that chime in regularly on posts. With Kev being a smaller vendor with not a lot of help, I would almost guarantee that FB generates more traffic and sales to his website. Unfortunately, we cannot get every member from FB over here. Maybe that is a good thing and maybe not. I suspect that a lot of people are not familiar with forums so they're "scared" to come over. Which is unfortunate because there is a wealth of good knowledge on here and the DIY section is one of the best I've seen. This is honestly the first forum I have ever been really active in. I much prefer being active over here than FB but there is no doubt a larger new owner market over there which is highly beneficial for Kev or for any vendor for that matter. I post in both, I try to post here first and then FB because posting in 20 different groups there takes a lot of time and I like it over here better and there is less people making comments like "Why not just buy a car?" like Br4hm4 joked about. One thing I definitely do though is group buys on products in this forum only. I offered a group buy once in FB and it was a shit show with people wanting to haggle pricing and I decided to not offer it there anymore. There is more of a family atmosphere here which I like. With that said, I wouldn't take it personally or give him too hard of a time about it. I've seen Kev put in a lot of blood sweat and tears into this niche market behind the scenes and bend over backwards for people. He's a good dude......even if he is Canadian. :POKESS:wacky-squared

You can also stick your finger where the red arrow is where the hood hinges are and pull on the cables to release the latch. And then adjust the cable so there is very little slack and that should prevent that from happening again.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's had an oh-shit moment on a bike when 1 more mile per hour takes you from 'Top Gun' to 'I'm gonna die!' (121 mph on my '85 GPz750 - I know, they make newer ones). I'm wondering what that number is for you hard-chargers in the Slingshot. Once you've felt that, you tend to set your own limitations on top speed. Obviously you're not there yet and I hope you prioritize your own safety over the friendly competition. It looks like Kyle D is properly outfitted with helmet (of course), fire suit (?), gloves, and likely proper footwear. I hope all the contenders follow suit. And I hope everyone appreciates what it's going to take to move the bar higher. Every mph will come with a cost and I'm really enjoying the show from the comfort of my easy chair (another oh-shit moment - I'm an old guy now!).

    ROCK ON!!!

I've had a couple oh shit moments in the Slingshot. The worst was in Indy last year during the afternoon session when the winds started picking up. I nearly swapped lanes towards the end of a run after getting hit with a cross wind. It surprised the shit out of me to say the least. But that was the moment I decided that for me personally, it was no longer safe to keep running. I couldn't turn the boost up any more at that point so I wasn't going to go much faster without a perfect run. I returned to the pits and packed it in for home. And then Rab went and ran 143mph. LOL

I do not wear a fire suit. I'm more concerned about my body parts coming in contact with pavement in a worst case scenario and getting terrible road rash. I use Aplinestar kevlar jacket and pants that zip together, Alpinestar Faster 3 shoes, nomex socks, full gauntlet leather gloves, Simpson diamond back helmet, hans device, MOMO Supercup seat, Teamtech 6pt harness, and G-Force arm restraints. The roll bar we made is 2.5" chrome moly. Safety has always been a priority for me as we started hitting pretty high speeds for a Slingshot.

I look back on my first 1/2 when I ran 131mph and I was only wearing a helmet and jeans with the stock seat and seat belt. Hindsight being that wasn't very smart seeing as the stock seats and seat belts are not crash rated. It's also crazy to think that it took another 250whp to go another 18mph.

I got some love for Alabama too. Roll Tide!!!

Ok, I'll be the one to say it and not beat around the bush.............It's not a big secret that Dave@DDMWorks went and did a bunch of wind tunnel testing. He posted about it. Clearly he wouldn't go and do all of that just to have fun and for the sake of saying "I went and did some wind tunnel testing once" and not use the data that came out of that for both product and Sling development. I think that all of us here can easily deduce that Dave or someone affiliated with him in some capacity is building a Slingshot for top speed runs based on the data gotten from said testing. With that said, I welcome anyone into the friendly competition to grab a lane. 149.24mph is currently the number to beat.......for now.

Convert that same slingshot back to three wheels and clock it...

I have no skin in either game....I’m a fairness freak..so let’s just talk about the same thing.

    [/quote]

My slingshot only has 3 wheels so I’m guessing you’re talking about Dan’s slingshot. He was just out there having fun. It was his first ever 1/2mi event. Even going 132mph for your first time not having raced before is a big accomplishment. I was happy for him that he went that fast. If we need to we can have a 4 wheel top speed record so everyone stays happy and nobody can say “yeah but he has an extra wheel so it doesn’t count”. But at this point, he’s still 17mph from the current record so there’s nothing to really even discuss at this point let alone say change it back to 3 wheels. As rabtech can attest to, even an additional 10mph on top of his pass of 132mph is going to be extremely challenging.

Everyone has their own opinion on the 4 wheel conversion. I think it’s awesome. It’s like driving a giant go cart and after driving one I understand why some do it. But it’s not for everyone, just like adding a turbo or supercharger isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine. But we are lucky to have companies out there like Bullet Speed and Trak Hamr to fill that need for those that want it.

It’s like an automatic conversion. I personally don’t have any interest in it but I’ve driven Rabtechs and it’s pretty fucking sweet and I get why some people love it. Not to mention, no human can out shift the speed of these auto transmissions.

Kyle D have you got any cockpit videos and front facing views of your runs.. I was hoping I could also have a copy of your tune you were running and possibly the fuel you were using. While your at it I could really use the brand, size, and pressure of the tire you were using.:D8o:D

I'm just asking for a friend.

All video content went straight to our marketing department. We should have some footage in the next day or two on our youtube channel. I'll make sure to post the links as soon as they're up. We would be HAPPY to tune your beast.......I mean your friends Slingshot. wink-squared I was running E85 that day and I'm still on those same Micky Thompsons you and I were running last year in Indy. I really like them. I go through 3-4 a year but I haven't found anything I like better yet and they seem to work well.

I just received my 1st pair of V-Moda ear plugs and took the sling out tonight to test them out.

I am still running a mostly stock 2016 SS (with exception of hood vent) and took the sling up to about 90 mph tonight while having the radio on a 12 volume playing my tunes on the USB, and I could not believe how well I could hear the music and no wind in my ears!!

Thank you to everyone who recommended all the options - I must say I am happy with my $20 purchase!

Those are my go to plugs when not wearing the set from my audiologist. Glad you also like them.

Grats! Kyle D as we discussed at Homecoming, did that rear spoiler do any good or do you have any thoughts on it?

It does enough. Is it creating huge amounts of down force? Not likely, but it’s keeping the rear end where it needs to be.....straight behind me. That front splitter is amazing. The front end was planted like a rock and I only had issues with a couple humps in the runway above 145 give or take. As I would go over them, the rear tire would break loose and I just had to keep my foot in it. When it reconnected, the rear would shimmy a little and straighten out. My last run, it ripped loose and it sent me towards the inside lane and the rear wheel of a Shelby Mustang when it reconnected solidly with pavement. I backed off the throttle, it straightened back out and I still ended up reeling in the mustang and trapping just over 145mph. I’m fairly certain that was my 150+ pass. Everything was perfect up to that moment. I guess rabtech will have to be the first one to 150 unless I can get there in Indy first.

It’s a little bitter sweet to be honest. While I raised the bar a bit, I fell short of my goal so I’m a little bummed about that. But overall, Dan and I had a great day. We set some records both overall and personal, we didn’t break anything, countless kids had their day made by getting their pictures taken sitting in our Slingshots, and most importantly, nobody got hurt.

    On to Indy!!!!!

The Cheetah trike has the radiator in the back (big plus in my book).

I have a radiator on the rear. Made a huge difference in reducing heat in the SS. My front fans never turn on anymore.
