Ruby is a relatively new 2019.

I've had discussions about milage, and how to track it, is the mpg on the on board computer accurate, etc. Oddly, questions about milage are one of the most frequent things I hear from people when they come up to ask about Ruby.
I've been tracking for a few hundred miles now, Ruby is well broken in (8K miles), has good tires, proper pressure, regular oil changes, and I just serviced the angle drive.
The last loop of 102 miles, 45 were across town, stop lights, 45 mph avg. The rest were country driving, winding 2-lane roads where I kept my speed between 55-65.
As you can see here, the on board computer shows me at 31.4 mpg while Fuelly.com & my calculator show 30.9 mpg. It should be noted that my new rear tire is a 305/35 R20, slightly bigger (+1.6%) than the stock Kenda at 305/30 R20. Among other things, my speedometer is now 1.6% low, when it says 60, I'm doing 62 (or if you prefer, when Ruby says 66, I'm doing 69!) I think this also means I'm traveling farther by 1.6% than the computer thinks I am. That means Fuelly.com is probably 1.6% low, its adjusted milage would be 32.7 mpg.
In any case, the on board computer is pretty much vindicated in my book!
Contact Kyle D with ZZP. He's in Michigan, not exactly local, but if you're going to make a trip of it, it might be very worth your while to get a quality job done.
Your cautionary tale is a good one. When I get a new tool, like a torque wrench, I like to practice with it before I use it to do an important (or expensive) job.
Display MoreSo my quest isn’t over yet....
I think the orange pledge might beat the lemon pledge....but there is still a problem ....
Lemon oil....orange oil.... dust is still sticking on every piece of black plastic....oil catches dust/dirt....
I saw a video and read some other forums...not slings shot related forums.....
They are talking about a product that repels dirt...they are putting it under their trucks and running them through mud and treated vehicles come out much cleaner than untreated.....
I don’t know if it just came out.....I looked in several locations today and couldn’t find any....
I can buy it on line but not locally....I’m not defeated yet....moving forward..... I’ll let you know when I get some and try it for myself....
I think rustoleum makes a 2-part product that repels dirt, oil, water, dang near everything. But I can't bring the product name to mind to save me.
That said, don't know how well it works on plastic, how long it lasts, how much $$$.
The F-11 topcoat is also supposed to be pretty incredible, (see web videos), but its pretty damn pricey too. I'm sure I've seen forum posts on this product around here.
Search Bar Time!!! 🤠
dangerdarrell with you living in AR and me living in upstate SC I don’t know how we can get together for me to purchase.
I agree... just drive over! The Captain & I will meet you part way. So much good cruising ground around here - definitely worth the trip!
I am not looking forward to getting home to catch up on mowing next week we have 32 acres and I cut about 11-12 every week. We had 6" of rain before I left and the sun has been out for a week now - gonna be some tall s#@t to cut.
it has been a wet spring here. I was out most of the morning cutting in the rain - with more rain every day until late next week, I had few options!
I told you Doc&Ruby it will work thinking bout hanging one of those ice packs in frt of fan, what you think?
Would certainly be worth a try. The pocket in front of the fan is a mesh like material, you could probably drop a blue ice pack in there easy.
I think I have one of those, I'll give it a try and let you know.
Probably have to be today, we're expecting rain tonight, and then every day till next Thursday!
Mowed a bunch today... just to not give snakes a close place to my house and shop. Killed two snakes in that area, a small copperhead and a medium chicken snake.
We do have rat snake and king snakes in the area, I leave those alone.
Yep! We have almost 9 ac and I keep 6 mowed short - no place for secret snakes! The other acreage is a wooded ravine, don't go down there much and never in warm months when snakes & ticks are active!
I've had enough seat time now to give a decent review of my snailax heated / cooling seats.
These seat cushions ($53 on Amazon) remind me of the old wire cushions that were popular years ago. Very firm, comfortable and flexible enough to conform to the slingshot seat. The cushion has straps etc to attach it, but these work poorly with the Slingshot seats - fortunately, they aren't needed.
One bonus, the flap that hangs between your knees and covers the fan motor has a nice pocket, FWIW, its large enough to conceal a full-size 1911 and still keep it instantly available. 🤠
You DO sit higher and farther forward by at least an inch, maybe more. To me, this is the biggest negative. I like the deep bucket style of the SLR seats, you lose some of the bolstered effect of the seats with these cushions.
These cushions work with a motor that is located between your knees. It draws air in and pumps it into a bladder under the seat & behind your back. There is no actual "air conditioning", it's all ambient air. When it is cool out, you definitely feel cooling effects. When it is warmer, you won't notice this, but the airflow will definitely dry up sweat on your thighs & back. Sooo much more comfortable when you get out of the seat! As the Captain says: "No more motza ball soup!" 😄
Some have complained about fan motor noise. This is nonsense. You can hear it if the sling is off, not so much if its running, not at all if you are in motion.
One other problem is with the control. It has LEDs to show power, heating, and cooling; but nothing shows if you are on high, medium, or low. It's really hard to tell if you are moving.
Worth $50, yeah, absolutely. Especially as I ride in cool, even cold weather several months of the year. Haven't tried this in heating mode yet, but I'm thinking that it will be a real boon come fall.
I let Ruby sit overnight and tried again this morning. Easily got another 10-12 pumps on the plunger and Ruby has now taken about 75% of the bottle of gear oil. Took her out for a drive and with the cleaned & lubed belt and new gear oil, it was all very quiet & smooth.
Thanks to rabtech & wokka for your help! After watching that video clip, I wondered if I should have just rolled the sling forward a foot or so & tried again. In any case, worked perfectly this morning!
Anvils are measured by the "hundredweight" system. It should have three numbers on it, usually separated by a dot.
First number is hundredweights = 116 lbs.
Next number is quarter weights = 28 lbs.
Third number is pounds.
So an anvil marked 1 . 2 . 7 weighs:
116 + 28 + 7 = 151 lbs.
Older castings are worth more than modern ones. Prices range from $5 to $15 per pound and up. Casting marks, dates, etc increase the value.
I have a pal who is more into this than I am & might be able to tell you more. I understand that there is a brisk trade in anvils on Ebay (really!), but never offer "free shipping"
Just checked - no way I put more than 1/2 qt into the drive. Left the system to drain until it was just drips. My driveway is pretty flat, don't think I could have tilted it and retained fluid.
Guess I'll try to add some more in the morning and see if it will take any more. Can't overfill the dang thing as far as I can see...
Any chance Polaris changed specs for the 2019 models without telling anyone??
23.7 oz or .7 liter (700 ml)
Okay...
Now ima go see if I can shine a light through the Royal Purple bottle!
Okay, so I drained my angle drive and refilled with Royal Purple 75w/140 as recommended by our own rabtech , current milage is about 8600.
Magnetic drain plug (standard on 2019 SLR) had a layer of black sludge on it - probably metallic particles, so it was time to change. Old oil was grey translucent, not black.
Refilled with pump until each press of the plunger produced an essentially equal outflow, very easy, capped everything off. Was surprised that angle drive took only 1/2 of the quart bottle. Is this correct? Looked all over for angle drive capacity and couldn't find any figures.
Can't see how it could hold more, guess I'm just a wrench rookie looking for some confirmation that I haven't screwed anything up!
Years ago when I was younger we did not have alligators except for a few places. Now they are everywhere and the state finally opened the season with a lottery.
Deer are the menace here in AR. They kill more people and do more property damage than all other "dangerous" animals put together. Even so, people get upset about "shooting bambi".
Sadly, the deer have not yet learned to selectively take out whiney liberals. We don't have wolves here (our ancestors fault), so we gotta step up and fill the niche!

I would think you have to either put boots on or leave them off altogether. Boots with holes will let water in, and then trap it there - that's a guarantee of trouble.
Business should be a personal relationship. I generally do not do business on the "vending machine" model. (You pays your money and takes your chance!)
HOT DAMN, that puts it in the 14k+ category and that is before options .....makes me regret even more passing on an Alpha quad conversion for half of that(neighbor discount)
I was thinking of a $3,500 boost kit.... x3 gets you a trackhamr ($10,500). Add "a bit" for installation. You can get about $1000 off if you're an early adopter.
Like Rolex watches & Porsche cars, outa my league. Still gonna congratulate wokka on his build and put on my drool bib when I take photos. Not above whining like a 5-year old for a ride, either!
