Okay... Just saying... How big is Kyle and what if he was driving Rab's Sling? Shaving a few extra oreos?? :P

    :00008172:

I've been wondering if either @rabtech or @Kyle D has had the opportunity to run it out to see what the actual top speed might be. There were claims over on TDS of 185 which pretty much everyone called BS on, even though the guy stuck to his guns on his claim. It seems y'all might be able to hit something like that without the half mile limitation...

@Kyle D and @rabtech, So just some food for thought. I've been contemplating removing the front fenders altogether and leaving just the hood (haven't gotten the nerve to cut off the fender subframe plus I need to find a good source for a bit of fiberglass work up front).... have either of you tried running without them, even just taking them off and leaving the subframe ? I wonder if that might settle things down a bit (less drag) and give you a bit more speed at top end.

    @MiM I'm 5'11 190lbs

@SlingLow The fastest I've gone on pavement is 141. I went 160 on our dyno but you can't count that being it's not a real world test. There's no head wind to deal with. @rabtech and I were both still in 4th when we broke 140. I have the ability to run mine out to 8000-9000RPMs so I am guessing if distance was not a factor and winds were favorable, like none, we could easily see over 150 in 4th running it out that far assuming you've built the engine to spin that high.

@jorgebri60 Rabtech ran without the front bumper or any of the skins on his hood on Sunday. He said he wasn't sure if it made a difference or not. I tried taping some things off and I do not feel that made a difference. We both continued to run about the same speeds as before until we kept dialing the boost up. I took the "mud flaps" off and I did not gain any MPH but the front end did get a lot more stable. I took off the hood today and only reattached the center section. Side bar, Thanks to @Painter for the ridiculously amazing video series on removing all that. It was a total pain in the ass but I did it without breaking any tabs off. I have another 1/2mi coming up soon and I want to see if doing this helps reduce more front end lift. I know it will not net me any speed but I have the power I need. I just need to make the Sling more stable above 130.

The speedos start getting pretty inaccurate above 120-130mph and the tachs are quite far behind. When I ran mine out to 8500RPM on our dyno, the tach on my dash only read 7000 but my digital tach and shift light set at 8500 for that run turned on. I THOUGHT there was a post from @rabtech somewhere in this thread or another where he said he saw 150 but trapped 140 something. Or maybe that was a convo we had in Indy.

For me I was really affected by the crosswinds and it getting really light at the end. I dealt with crosswinds at SpeedFest when I hit 131 but they felt very manageable as we definitely had higher winds at SpeedFest. The 140 mark was a lot sketchier for me personally. The one thing I did notice specifically about the Indy track is the right lane had a rather large hump in it right before the finish line so I tried to run the left lane for all my runs as there was no hump in it at the end. You could avoid it for the most part if you stuck to the far left of the right lane. Your front wheel would still hit it but the back would miss it which is what gave me the most trouble but getting locked in that close to the flag at the end was also an issue for me since I was already all over the place I didn't want to hit the sand bags and take out the flag either. I think this really is going to come down to brute forcing past the aero deficiencies of the slingshot. Both Rab and I were still running the same speeds for the most part regardless of what we were removing or taping off.

Yea.. It looks like i missed out on all of the fun... Was wondering where the documentation for all of these speeds is? I assume in the matrix somewhere? congratulations on the 143+mph.... I guess I'll need to start eating more pancakes and change from the brushed blue to white and Black huh? Would like to see the timeslips when you guys get a chance... but, still very impressive! Maybe the "Lawnmower" can hopefully get to the magic numbers... we will just have to see?

2018 Indy Airstrip Attack Presented by Drag965 and ICMC - Event Stats If you scroll down about 2/3 of the page it goes to top overall speeds by competitor. It's in aplhabetical order. I'm #53 and @rabtech was #72. However, I've attached a screen shot of my email pulled from "the matrix" where it shows all of my runs as well. There was talk on Sunday morning that I may have been sand bagging a bit on Saturday at first and running nitrous with the 10mph jumps. I can neither confirm or deny those allegations. :P I can confirm however, that I was NOT the fastest that weekend. But dammit it was fun! I also would like to state that I will accept cash or a cashiers check in Ocala. ;) ALL IN GOOD FUN LADIES AND GENTS!!!

Thanks @Kyle D and congrats to you for your efforts. Running straight up with a Hellcat gives you some bragging rights! @rabtech might have taken this round but something tells me it's not over. I'll look forward to the next installment. 150 is on the radar!

I think that Hellcat had a driver mod. lol There was another Hellcat there that was running +150s all day. But neither of us is that far off the 150 mark. Ocala is going to be exciting for sure.

Or even one video or picture! I thought I read something about a drone working the event. I'm also wondering what was the fastest overall: time and vehicle. Way to represent the Slingshot community guys!

If you want to check stats for the event you can see that here 2018 Indy Airstrip Attack Presented by Drag965 and ICMC - Event Stats The fastest overall speed was 259.97 in a yellow 2015 Lamborghini Huracan. Our drone guy could not make it so we only have media from one of our camera guys. I didn't take many pics since we had media there but below is a pic taken by @kev of @rabtech, @Ghost, and myself I THINK on Sunday morning. The other is of my SS Sunday afternoon once we both started ripping out seats, body panels, front bumpers, and I started experimenting with taping things off. I made a small wing in the back which actually helped stabilized the rear a bit but it was definitely not enough. I'm not sure removing all the shit we did actually made a difference or if me taping everything off really did anything other than wasting tape because we were both running close to our consistent speeds from the previous day and the only time either of us went faster was when we turned the boost up more. But that's what R&D testing is all about so. If nothing else we maybe learned a few things this past weekend.

In my opinion we all had some good conversations regarding our setups and techniques. I was also really impressed that when I had broken my shifter and I was wandering around trying to fix it before we went to the machine shop @rabtech was more than willing to help me out and offered any tools we needed that could help that we didn't have. He's a stand up guy. My favorite quote of his from the weekend was, and I may get this partially wrong, "We're all friends and I will help you out with anything you need.....until we get to the starting line."

We need more videos and pictures... just say'n.

Congrats to all the drivers, owners and wrenchers who made these times happen. Hats off to all of you.

Any videos of Rab and/or Kyle D setting these records; just saying!!! Regardless, impressive results. I have had my SS over 100 MPH (quit laughing) and the turbulence was bad even then.

We had our media guy there taking pics and video I believe of the entire event. It usually takes a few days to go through and edit everything. I will post some links once it is all up. The video will likely go to our youtube channel ZZPerformance Official
    - YouTube
and photos will go to our FB and Instagram ZZPerformance (@zzperformance) • Instagram photos and videos pages. I can also post some stuff in the gallery section for those that do not participate in social media. @rabtech If you would rather I not post those links above in here, let me know and I can take those down.

Just so we can compare apples to apples you should think about doing a build thread on your sling, it really is amazing that you are competing for the top without 30k++++ worth of upgrades in the engine/sling.

It really goes to show your prowess when it comes to ecotech engineering, so hat off to you guys for an extremely well done job.[/quote]

Thank you for the compliment. I have a really great team behind me and none of this would have been possible without them.

I’ve actually been meaning to do that build thread. I just haven’t gotten to it yet. Now that I have a little down time before Ocala I can get that done.

    Thank you very much!

100% stock trans and drive train with zero modifications. To be honest we are trying to do all this keeping everything as original as possible and just modifying the Turbo kit as needed.

The shifter that broke was the stock shifter but with a knob we made in house. After it broke I made a new shifter than mounted directly to the bar coming off the top of the trans.

Super happy you ran that! Congrats to you on that. I was really hoping one of us would hit 145mph. The last 2 runs I took the wind sheer moved me over about 6’ sideways. I was no longer willing to risk it. This was before @rabtech ran 143. I loaded up my SS for MI and saw he was back out. I decided to wait and see what would happen. He hit I THINK 140 and then hit another lap and picked up 3mph which is a TON. I would be lying if I said I didn’t contemplate for a moment getting it back out to try and beat that but I accomplished what I went to do and made a big improvement over my speed at Speedfest. My hat is off to @rabtech for taking the top spot as the ½ mile Sling King......for now. I think if any of you were contemplating coming to Ocala, after seeing what we ran this weekend, you’d be crazy to not make the trip to Ocala to watch us battle it out again. I had a great time this weekend.

We went head to head once and holy shit once he hits 3rd gear he blew by me like I was standing still. I just make all my speed up on the back half.

I also got to meet @Ghost and a couple others and they were all a great group to spend the weekend with talking "Slingshop"....I just made that Slingshop up. ;-)

Again, congrats rabtech! If anyone was going to “dethrone” me I’m glad it was you.

    See you all in Ocala!

I may force @Kyle D to ride with me and show him how to do an 1/8th mile long burnout..... :D

I totally want to go for a ride with you so I can experience the auto trans. And we will have to do a couple side by side passes down the run way. Getting traction is really hard and there seems to be a really fine line between way too much spin and not enough pedal and it bogs down. I struggled with traction all day as well but we both made great accomplishments in raising the bar for everyone else.

Just thought I would share with the group my experience from the half mile.

We got there at 815am. One of the guys caused us to run late so I am already stressed out since I wanted to be there for the gates. Get the SS out and still need to put a couple trim pieces on. I break a wire on the rear radiator. Now 20min later, I get it back together. I get it out for the first couple runs and I cannot get it to shift into each gear smoothly to save my life. But I'm also now shifting at 7000-8000RPMs. On my 3rd run, around 10:45am I go for 3rd and I snap my gear shifter off. It's not the stock one, it's a billet one. So now I am thinking my weekend is done.

As luck would have it one of our techs used to live and work in Marion. He makes a call to a machine shop he used to work at, and 15min later we are clamping a couple pairs of vice grips to what's left of the shifter and driving to the machine shop. We get there and get a piece of cold rolled steel and make a crude shifter. It ain't pretty but it works and I'm back in the game.

We get back to the track and I suit back up and get back on the track. I make another run and blow a fitting off and my idle is stuck at 3000RPM because of the massive vac leak. At this point I'm thinking, you have GOT to be fucking kidding me. We get that issue fixed and I get back out on the track.

I get out there and nail every gear just right, but right before the end of the track I let off because the ass end of the SS gets really light and my sphincter puckers up but it feels like a good run. I make my way back to the starting grid. I slow down as I see the rest of the ZZP team at the edge of the track and they are all jumping up and down and fist pumping like they are all at an electronic music festival. I motion to them to tell me how fast as I drive by. I'm thinking I at least went 131mph again or maybe 135mph. And then Steve flashes me 141. I'm thinking I did not interpret that correctly so I pull to the side of the track and I hear "141 fucking MPH!!!" Overcome with joy I continue on to make another pass. I bested my original speed by 10mph at 16psi.

It started off as a really tough morning but turned out to be a great day by besting my overall top speed. None of it would have been possible without having a great group of guys and techs around me. Tomorrow the boost will get turned up and I will go for more if the rear end allows it and doesn't get too squirrely. Aero will likely be the focus when we get back to ZZP.

@BKL Regarding the stock injectors, they are completely fine at the 6.5psi that the kit will run. I only mention needing larger injectors based off wanting to turn the boost up beyond that point.

Anyone purchasing the kit is highly encouraged to contact either myself or @kev directly should you need any tech support should you need it.

There is a bung for the factory O2 sensor just past the turbo going into the neck of the muffler. If you want to add a wide band O2 sensor, you will need to put another bung just above the "P" in the ZZP logo embossed into the top of the muffler.

We are going to add options to what will soon be the existing base kit and add things you can purchase for the kit to go beyond the base 6.5psi in the near future like larger injectors, forged pistons, and rods. We are still developing the tuning for that. The base kit will likely be more than enough power for most but we also understand that once you get used to the kit it's always an addictive game of bigger better faster more now.

Well, it's official. ZZP is all signed up and will be at the 1/2mi for the full weekend! Looking forward to meeting all of you that are going. Also, to anyone that is interested, ZZP will be heading to the Tail of The Dragon on Monday morning from Orlando to meet up with the rest of our crew and the Ecotec Nation for 5 days of running the tail, hiking, and exploring other areas like the Devil's Triangle and The Blue Ridge Parkway. All are welcome.
