clearly we dont know for sure, as we all know power tends to corrupt people, but considering the lack of power the Libertarian party currently has I think it would be a very odd place for a power hungry politician to choose as a starting point for his political career

Unfortunately every time we vote for a politician it's a gamble - we have to look at everything and use our best judgment and then place our bet. For me the simple fact that a person would choose to be a part of the Libertarian party and run with all of the problems that would present tells me that this person probably is not doing this for the power - - - - but as you point out its still a risk

While I am not on Tik Tok, and think its a complete waste of time, I sure don't agree with censorship and removing it from the entire US.

If the reason they are considering banning it is because there is evidence that the Chinese government is using it to access U.S. citizens personal data then how do you call this censorship?

Should app's that are used by a foreign government to spy on the citizens of another country be protected? there are a bunch of other apps out there that show pretty much the exact same content that is on tik Tok and I have not heard of any attempts being made to ban those, as such it does seem to add to the believability of why they say they want to ban the one

I agree with the first statement, but there is no proof of this. Only speculation and rumors from politicians.

I can see much more personal data being on Facebook, and other social sites. Be just as easy to hack those and get the info needed than tik tok (which is kinda like stupid people tricks, and Jackass), IMO.

so data from tik tok is available in china, so what. So is facebook data, instagram data, and likely even slingshotinfo.com data is available in china. Doesn't mean its a national security threat. Many products are made in china, so we should stop them from coming into the country as they “could” have spyware built-in and no one would know. Hell, lets just forget they even exist and block all communications because politicians say its a risk without having concrete proof.

If it can be proven, then sure I agree, but without actual proof, its censorship.

If it was that much a security risk, they would have banned it already, just like they did with Huawei communication equipment.

It was already proven that TikTok uses data mining spyware built in to their app that goes well beyond the other platforms you mentioned and was sending that metadata to China. When the last administration discovered this their parent company was forced under threat of outlawing the app in the US to move their US user data storage to US based/US owned cloud services and pledged that employees in China would not have access to user specific/user linked information. That is now known to be a lie by their own admission. By their own words they are still collecting specific user data not related to the function of their app or marketing and accessing it from China. That sir is an FTC violation at minimum. Not even going to go in to the possible National Security threats. You might not agree with it but under our laws we are supposed to be protected from such actions. They got caught, they where given a chance to comply, they didn't, so now they need to suffer the consequences. Pretty simple.

Censorship of who? - - if they take away tik Tok tomorrow how is anyone other than perhaps the owners of Tik Tok censored?

Your acting as if there is some source of information that only comes through tik Tok and if that's the case please enlighten me

from what I can see there is nothing in the way of information available to me on tik Tok that is not also available in many other places - - so please who do you think this censors

I know the question was not directed to me, but I will throw this out there anyway - - I would think it all depends on how much access the app has to whats on your phone - - if it is a spy app I would think it could possibly mine everything and anything that might be on your phone - - hell it might even be able to access the camera and mic - - - If I were China I would love to have a back door into peoples phones in the U.S. this could come in very handy if it were the phone of someone in high security meetings and things like that - - - seriously if you think about it having access to peoples phones basically means you have access to listening devices and cameras anyplace those phones are allowed
