I've been thinking about something like this for a while. Where does this mod fall on the spectrum of difficulty to do at home for someone who is far less than expert but has a little more than a basic understanding of tools? Would a step-by-step instruction pack come with it?

@KayTwo the level of difficulty for install is pretty easy. We include instruction with this each order. We should have a few of these with us for our upcoming trip too and will install it if that is a better option for you. If you pm me your email. I can send you our instruction since uploading it as an attachments doesn't work. That way you can gauge to see if its something you would like to do.

Super easy! I've done short shifters in a couple cars now (including the slingshot) and with a basic hand tools and 10-15 minutes it'll be in and ready to go. In fact I just got home from the Alpha shop where Troy had my old shifter out and the new Alpha short shifter installed in a matter of minutes.

Hi all, Just a quick first impression of the Alpha short shifter.
Having driven a few cars with various shifter setups (short throw shifters/bushings/knobs etc..) I've come to know what I like in a shifter. The factory Slingshot shifter is very easy to drive and while the shifts are quite smooth the throws are long and the feeling of a connection to the machine is definitely lacking. The cure for this disconnect is generally done with a short shift kit that'll firm things up and give a nice solid feel while rowing through the gears. The folks at Alpha have done an A+ job on this new shifter for sure. Not sure what they've done differently but they have smoothed out the notchy feel I've experienced with shifters in the past leaving a solid, smooth engaging shifter feel that is still nice and easy to drive. For what it's worth, this piece gets my stamp of approval!

@Jonathan Thompson are you referring to shorter throw or height of shifter? If its throw this is about 50% shorter throw compare to factory but height is similar to factory shifter.

FYI, this is from the other vendor:
"From what we can tell right now, the Alpha shifter positions the center of the pivot of the shifter a little further down than our shifter, this would make the shifting easier, but make the throw longer." -
Based on my research which included only comments from members of this forum. The new Alpha shifter is a great improvement over stock while keeping the most drivability where the other shifter I already have is more aggressive and "tighter". This means that we now have two awesome options depending on what an individual wants to do with their SS

@Jonathan Thompson We will be in CO this week, if you would like to test the shifter to see the difference. We have already replaced a few short throw from other vendor also our throw is not much longer then our competitors as well.
