Well, with all this Carona Virus going about, I haven't been up to much recently. I've been self isolating, for almost 2 weeks.

Due to my various health problems and I'll remain total in lockdown, (never leaving the house), for at least another 11 more weeks, then who knows how much longer will be added on to that.

I hope you are all keeping well and protecting yourselves along with each other, from spreading this. It's going to get much worse, before it gets better, so...

    Stay Safe.

Hi to everyone out in Slingshotinfo land.

I just had a response to a posting and thought it may be apropriate to reintroduce myself, to the newer members, as I have not been arround much, over the last year, or so.

I'm a British owner/rider, of these lovely Slingshots.

I've been an owner, from late in 2016 & have the 16.5 model. We only have about 6 of these machines, on our roads over here, in the UK & Ireland. Unfortunately they can no longer be imported into Europe as we have much stricter emission regulation on our vheicals, than in the US and the Slingshot no longer conforms to the regulations.

For those that don't know me. You may be interested to read my thread on this site.

    UK_Paul's - Slingshot Build & Other Adventures -

It covers many more things than just the Slingshot and I try to post pictures and articles that may be of interest. (Sorry, but that also includes updates on my poor heath).

I live in a very pleasant part of England (Hereford,) not too far from the Welsh border, but have also spent much of my life near London and I love them both.

My home near Hereford, built in the 15th century.

I've been the owner of Polaris products from 2009 first purchasing a Victory Vegas.

For those of you that know the Victory Vegas, you can see that I happily added and changed a number of its features, to make it into, just what I wanted. I have also added and changed things, with the Slingshot. It's a little harder and way more expensive, to do this to the Slingshots in Europe. However we all know that we just have to get on and do these things.

Under the hood of the UK_Paul Slingshot

In the Welsh mountains near my home.

As I have said, above. I have not been very active, over the last year, or so, but intend to start making more contributions, to this wonderfull site, again.

Along side one of the few other Slingshots that are in the UK. Once owned by Jorge Lorenzo, when he was living in the UK. One of the best Moto GP racers, in the world. He once told me that he preferred riding the Slingshot, to virtually all his (super)cars. I gess his Ferrari F458 at around $300,000 (for a used one) may just top the Slingshot. 🤔

    So...

"Hi" to those that don't know me and

"I'm back!" To those that do.

Roadhawg most of us put our home area in our profile … What part of the country are you in?

Well, as many of you know. I'm from Hereford, in the UK. However newer members may have not come across me before.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hereford

It is one of the most beautiful rural areas, of Britain and is where (obviously) the strain of Hereford cows & bulls come from. We still have many of the "Black & White" houses, like the one, in the picture above and I'm fortunate enough to live in one (a small cottage) out in the countryside.

I have also lived, just a little (30 miles) outside London and love both areas, for diferant reasons.

Possibly posted on the wrong thread, but what the heck.

    Edit:

If I'm new to you, then you may want to follow this link:

    UK_Paul is back.

Throughout Europe, the Slingshot is recognised as a motorcycle.

Additionally, I assume that the Victory had a Freedom Engine, in it. That would have been fine, to ride, as a 2010 model, however (before the engine was discontinued,) it also became illegal to import, because of emission regulations. (I have a Vegas 09).

Technically the Victory, is very similar in Europe to the US except for a slightly different mapping, on the ECU.

I guess, having ridden the Vic' in Italy, you will know what fun it can be dealing with Italian drivers. :00000004: I've ridden my one across Europe and into Italy, a few times.

Unfortunately, with the Slingshot, it's the 16.5 version and older models, or nothing at all.

    Something I missed.

In my previous comment i mentioned about emission regs in Europe.

One thing to remember is that "after" the EURO4 regs were introduced, in 2017, this then excluded the import of vheicals, both new and old, that did not meet the regulations. So if the Slingshot was not already in Europe an old one (pre EURO4) could not be imported and get arround the emission rules.

Therfore if it's not a model that's already here then they won't let it in. (Unless Polaris homoginalise the 2020 models).

This is going to be miserable, but here goes.

I can let you all know, that Polaris have confirmed to a French friend, that they will not import the 2020 model, into Europe. They have not specified the reason, but I suspect that even with the new engine, it does not reach the required emission regs. This will also effect exports to other areas, (including Japan, Austrailia, many parts of Africa, Russia and possibly even India). Unfortunately this shows Polaris to be out of step, with the rest of the world, but we can't change that, if the US won't come in line with most of the modern world.

New gas & diesel cars will start to be banned, in some European countries, starting, in just 15 or so years. (Britain first 2035). Times are changing quickly. We need an electric version, full of batteries or hydrogen bottles.

I'm glad to have got my 16.5 before they got banned in Europe, with the old German designed Ecotec engine, that went into our old European GM sports cars (& some Lotus').

Sad but true, life is changing, for us all now. It looks like Polaris may have built the new model, with an engine that is already, out of date. (Unless Polaris are able to correct me - I sure hope I'm wrong).

Following up on a recent post.

I have today been activated on the transplant list so could get a call any day, from now. However it will probably take a very long time.

I have also been very worried that I may loose my driving licence, due to possible deterioration in my eyesight, but yesterday received a letter confirming that I had reached the leagal eyesight requirements, so may retain my licence.

    Two pieces of great news.

    :00008674:

    GREAT NEWS.

But it's not directly Slingshot related:

    😁

I have just received notification that I am approved for an SPK (Simultaneous Pancreas & Kidney) transplant.

    😁

It is hoped that this can be carried out in the next 12-18 months, but I must have an apropriate match, first. So who knows?

My approval was dependent on some successful tests, after a heart opperation and these came through as OK.

Hopefully things are on the up for me, at last.

    Wishing you all well.

    UK_PAUL

Or as someone just said on Facebook.

😃 "Across the pond Sling brother." 😃

    Great news today.

I finally got over to the Slingshot today, to check out the modification that I'd made to the earthing strap, on the battery.

Due to bad health it had taken, almost 2 months, to get this done and try turning the engine over.

Everything worked fine. The engine sprung strait into action after more than a year sitting, doing absolutely, nothing.... it sounded just so, so sweet.

My next job is to reconnect one of the angel-eyes (that has a broken lead, running to it). Then it will require, its yearly testing for road worthiness (known in the UK as an "MOT Test." https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/the-mot-test ).

Assuming that all goes well, with the test, then my wife and I may get to enjoy the use of it, this year.

So one little step forward today, but a masive leap towards rideing again.

well it has been a long time since I posed anythig. I'm still suffering with all my problems (I spent the last few days in hospital, throwing up blood. But i think its sorted out now).

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all of my SS friends a very happy Christmas and a SlingShot new year.

That's a couple of pictures of our lounge, getting ready for Christmas

    Hi Eveyone !

It's been a long time, but with the inspiration of dangerdarrell it's time to post a note or two.

First off, an update on the earth lead , mentioned in my note, at the start. I will post a note (some day soon ) with regards to this in my normal thread, "UK_Paul' Slingshot Build...." You may all find it of use, as I found a manufacturing fault that may apply to other Slingshots (but then it may just be my one, who knows).

    With regards to myself:

I've had a rough year. Some of you will know the full "washing list" as mentioned in a previous posting. But without going through it all, I have many, type 1, diabetic complications, that all appeared to kick in at once, after about 40 years of no medical related problems.

This lead to my body turning on itself and I had multiple organ failures, but survived that, of a fashion. It was decided that my kidneys were too damaged and that they needed replacing. I got over the liver failure, heart failure, pneumonia and the other stuff, so they decided to check me out and see if I could manage a multiple transplant of kidney and pancreas.

These tests showed problems with my heart and I was also experiencing vision problems. A surgical opperation was required in one eye injections and ongoing in both. Today I had an update on the eyes and found that I may be in a position where I I no longer able to drive, but more on that in a few weeks.

I required a heart bypass. That was carried out just fine, and I'm now going through what gets referred to as rehabilitation, over here. That's all going well.

I am now also on daily dialysis. I probably started that, just in time, as I ended up totaly bed bound, for some time and it was then I started to go down hill with my mental attitude. Elaine (my wife's) heart attack pushed me still further down, just before my heart opp. and that was when I hit rock bottom.

It's times like that when you find how good friends can be. A phone call to a mate that I first met, at the end of my teenage years, and he jumped into his car and allong with his wife, took over my life for me, untill I got through it all. Without this type of help things may have been much worse. On a positive note. This mate & his wife know that they now get the Slingshot, in the will, when Elaine and I do pass on.

I am sometimes active on Facebook and have also found great support from our French SS riders. Particularly Didier Fermin (hope he's on this site). They are looking to get me over to see them, if/when I improve and that remains a goal for me, in the future.

    So what next?

As mentioned at the start, I get assessed for the transplant list on the 6th December, so I'm hopeful going to have a good Christmas.

I have missed the community on this great forum, but have just not felt up to participating, without any Slingshot news. I'm also very pleased to say that the 2019 Slingshot calendar, is in our kitchen, still stuck on the April page, showing the UK_PAUL Slingshot.

All the very best, from your friend, in the UK.

UK_Paul , so good to hear from you again! Hope you’re medical procedures are working out well! Also, hope the camera solves your radio issues.

    dangerdarrell

I'm off to Hospital tomorrow, for a few days, to get a tube fitted into my stomach, so that they can carry out peritoneal dialysis. Then further treatment will start.

At this time in spending about 20 hrs each day sleeping, as I so exhausted & that's why I haven't had much chance to be active, on the forum.

So, it looks like it will be some time yet, before I'm strong enough to get the SS recall done.
