Well did first mow, machine smoked like a SOB!?? Oil is fine.. hoping it's just break it? Real thick ?? Never had a machine do this before..... ?(

So I'm mowing & all the sudden the hood just goes flying off machine and slides across driveway & gets F'ed up !! =O:cursing: .. oh yeah they never put it on right ... I was on phone immediately raising Hell ! Will go & swap out tomorrow.
Nice cut, but exspierance has been awful

Dang, I really wanted to thumbs down, but couldn't. Could happen to anyone, but sucks that it happened to you. I've been there, and no matter what happens from here you won't feel really "good" about the machine going forward. I had a couple issues too, very minor. One handle adjustment bolt worked loose, easy fix. The dealer showed me how they adjust on the showroom floor, and that was the one that he was messing with. I suspect it never got tightened like it should have. The other thing was, went to use it the 4th time, and battery was dead. Two cells dropped. But this was a leftover from August 2016, and I suspect it wasn't on a charger until I bought it. Got a new battery from the dealer, he's only a few blocks from me. I'm really pleased with the cut, and it has cut my rider time nearly in half.

We have a spot similar north of town about a mile. It was at an old unused RR crossing. Nice jump heading west, launch ramp heading east. The RR has been pulled up since, and they have topped off that section of road long ago. But I remember, when I was 16 (thankfully learned this lesson early in life) riding my Honda 350 Four over it at 60.... just a nice launch and not too hard of a landing at the bottom. Then I went the opposite way and learned said lesson. I had the bike at least 15 feet in the air, if not closer to 20. Came down Hard! But being a dirt bike rider, I didn't lose it. I also didn't ever do that stuff again!

I tell ya, be it Slingshots or Harleys, you get creative when things break if possible. I once had a shift linkage on my Road King pop the ball out of socket. I was able to fix it with a zip tie and some sunscreen for lube. Ran it the rest of 400 miles home that day, and then for the next week until I could get another one. Zero issues in about 1000 miles with the zip tie fix.

No pics of that one, but we also had my wife's Super Glide loose a shifter end on the road. I stopped at a garage in southeastern Kentucky and got a bolt, a piece of hose, and a hose clamp and made one up for her. That was 2008, and she still carries it in her leather saddle bag "just in case" and for conversation....

I have a feeling that Johnathan Creek may be the venue for me next year. I'll be looking into it while at MV, would like to see someone's room while there if possible. I'm just happy to be going this year, and have a confirmed place to lay my head at night!

Agree. While being compared to the Pinto is a rather hard hit, it goes on to state that Polaris reacted to the issues and are resolving them. All the while, doing it in a very public manner. Kudos for dealing with the issues.

As for the Slingshot I recognize that it has some issues and some of them might be reliability related. I've still enjoyed mine more than enough to get past them! There is nothing in this class that's similar, in the same price range, that delivers what the Slingshot does for me. Not yet anyway. Instead of ever trading up, I plan to upgrade the one I have with better components. Shocks, brakes, clutch, possibly rims and tires are just a few of the things I plan to upgrade over time.

We are registered for the Friday dinner too, but only because I hoped to meet up with more forum members. No way I'll miss the BBQ if you have it that night or any night. I can help with the cost, and with the flipping of burgers. I'm pretty good cooking anything over fire.... Count us in just let us know for sure when!

Side note, @Bill Martin I'm going to get you my cell number. It's likely I won't be on the forums much if any that week, and want to be able to coordinate some rides and other meet ups. I've got @KayTwo cell, any others want my number just PM me. All good....

I had thought about the screen name vs the real name. I ordered shirts from Rab so myself and the Missus could at least be connected to the site. I have my real name listed in my Avatar, on the Facebook link if anyone looks. If anyone is unsure, I will be the gray/white haired guy, slightly rotund ( @Bill Martin ) with the gray goatee with tattoos that's about 6'4" in the fast red SS. Gee, I think I just narrowed it down to maybe 40% of the male SS owners if you take out the 6'4".... at least 75% if you switch it to Harley owners!

@rabtech, great idea! We plan to have on the shirts, at least most of the days, and the lanyard with a name tag. Getting closer....

Why not approach them with something like "25 sales guaranteed with the possibility of up to 10 more"? You could mention that there are members (shudders @Tripod) that are on the fence that might jump in if the price is right. (disclaimer, the "25" number can be adjusted to whatever firm orders we have) That way, we would all know exactly what it would cost, and decisions can be made based on a known discount price delivered to our door. It also gives more incentive for the seller to make the best price based on more volume sales.

Why yes, I was a negotiator in a former life. Why do you ask?

I'm probably going to regret this, but I think I'm going to hold off. Would I like to have one, Oh Yeah! But honestly (hoping not to jinx myself here) I've only had mine up for basic maintenance like oil change (only jack up left front for that) and angle drive fluid drive. I've got nearly 14k on mine and probably haven't had it in the air more than 6 or 7 times. For that, I can use the jack and stands.

Although I do have a bike lift that will raise it 36 inches, and rarely ride the bike since I bought the Sling.

I'm still watching this, but my thinking is that for the same $$$, a Stainless 1340 shorty header with a remap on the ECU would be of more use to me right now.... ;)

I've not gone crazy on mods. Originally I bought the Corbin bag setup (biggest regret... likely only regret I have on it so far) and then sold it for a $2000 loss and considered myself lucky to be rid of them. I'd say they were a boat anchor, but they weren't even good for that because they floated. But my changes/mods include the following....

    DDMWorks CAI
Assault D Steering wheel, shifter, and boot with red stitching
Horn changed to something you can actually hear
    SLR graphic vinyls
Stealth 1.0 rear fender with LED light strip
    Sunshade for stereo
Custom lay down/set back licence plate
Lug nuts and other red accents

Also have machined a few pieces for it, as I didn't like the aftermarket setup and knew I could do it better. Future possible changes include a top, springs, possible exhaust change of some type that's yet to be determined, remap of ECU, brakes, and possibly wheels and tires.

That is fair and the right thing to do. Respect is deserved and given by me. Not registered SS for $25 a day is fair also. If you put up a donation box at the registration table, I'll toss in a $20 to help compensate and I'm pretty sure others will too. Thank you for standing up in this concern, and look forward to meeting you and all the others. Well played!

@Flybuddy, I understand and even tend to agree with your statement overall. I do appreciate that @ivor and the group has put for the effort it takes to do this, and they should make a profit. I've put on poker runs, and those are only one day, but I know what work goes on that the participants never see. This is even on a much more grand spectrum. I respectfully disagree firmly on only one thing, and that is what my comment was about earlier. They have run this for 2 years. To decide to make a change 3 weeks before the event and charge for walk in entry is not the respectable thing to do. Had they done this when they announced the event would have been somewhat different. Personally, I wouldn't have thought it best even then, I would rather pay more up front as a participant or vendor than to charge the walk in people. I'd have not personally have batted an eye at $25 more for participant entry fee. Makes more sense to me to try to get others interested in the hobby, that might be future participants. I wouldn't have an issue with a donation box at the entry point or exit point. But to charge walk ins an entry fee and to announce that 3 weeks before the event starts (after some have already made plans and reservations to come just to meet people and see the new products) seems poorly planned at best, and disrespectful at worst. And I think it will just keep some of the curious out, and really not raise that much in the way of revenues.

Like the others here, I don't agree with charging outside/walk ins at the last moment. Here is it 3 weeks away, and NOW this is mentioned? In the case of @KayTwo and @sideseatdriver, they just recently decided to come after having the new job position and move. No one to watch the little ones, so they have to leave the Sling to come up. Which will be punishment in itself. Now it will cost them $30 (or someone) a day to get in to be able to see the vendors about possible purchases, and the vendors have paid premium to get their space to show their offerings?

I didn't sign up for any rides. I am signed up and paid for the dinner with the package. Nearly all the $$ I put down to register for this event is of no cost to the ones putting it on, other than the food that will be eaten and the T shirt, and there's no way I will ever eat enough to offset that cost. I did the dinner hoping to visit and get to know many more from here, that's the only reason.

So I guess what I'm saying here in a nutshell is this. I've looked forward to this for months, and been registered since last year. I have kept getting more and more excited as the time grows closer. I thought it was more about family, more about the community, and after 2 years of running this event, that the planners should have enough of a feel for true cost. To spring this on those that are not registered 3 weeks before the event, is in bad taste. I've had nothing but optimism for this event up until now. I just got dealt a serious dose of pessimism and am starting to feel that it's not only commercialized, but also an attempt at an easy last second money grab.

Coming from an old school (hate that term, but it fits here) biker, it comes down to this. Loyalty, Honesty, Trust and Respect. This event just took a hit on all mentioned. Had hoped to make this an annual for us going forward, but this may be the one and only for us. Time will tell. I hope to meet everyone this trip, just in case...

*** G_H tosses a nickle (that was worth more than $.02) on the stage and walks away ***

@WOLF, +3" falls about as bad as it can for me. Top of windshield would be directly in my line of vision. I'm thinking I likely need another stock one that's tinted dark. Maybe someone will show up with one they replaced with one of the aftermarket ones. At this point, it's likely I'll hold off until after SSITS2017, as I'll be able to look over all that in person there.

Thanks for your offer though, greatly appreciated!

    Helmeeeeeets.....pffft.
I'm already spoiled by the SC freedom!

    Awesome offer, thank you!

I know the feeling on the helmets! I carry one with me (Scorpion) that is half helmet and has the visor that flips up into the helmet. I only wear it if caught in rain, or a state that requires it. My state is helmet free, as are the bordering states. Makes it nice for me, about any day trip I take I won't need it.
