Just picked this up off of the old forum from dwilson. I believe it is what most of us expected.

My sister was the person killed in this accident and she WAS wearing her seat belt! In fact, the seat belt is what caused my sister's death and it was also the cause of the critical injuries to her husband (the driver). For all you Polaris Slingshot owners I would recommend you DEMAND a 4-point harness type seat belt in these vehicles! My sister's main artery was severed from the seat belt. Even a go-chart has a 4-pt harness for extra safety. Don't thing a regular seat belt is going to save you from injury but it won't. I truly believe if they had this type of seat belt, my sister would be alive today.

I pray to God you ALL move forward in DEMANDING a different seat belt design!!!! I hope some how this information helps you.

This post by another family member just after the accident occurred is also important ....

"as a family member I would like to set the record straight, though the accident is still under investigation.
Seat-belts: were being worn, both by driver and passenger. This was a 100mph impact, were the pick-up truck swerved into the lane the SS was driving to avoid another truck that had pulled out of a driveway. The brunt of it was on the passenger side, were the woman was sitting. The driver of the SS was trying to turn the SS to take the brunt of the impact, but there was just no time. The injuries were all due to seat-belts. That being said, if they wouldn't have worn seat-belts they would have most likely been ejected.
Helmets: If they would have worn helmets, they would have added additional weight to their heads, probably causing more head and spine trauma; it was a 100 mph impact.
Shoulder harness: which is not what the SS has, but we speculate the impact still would have caused more spine and possible head trauma."

Being that this was a head on collision with a pickup truck with a combined speed of approximately 100 mph and that the Slingshot is not equipped as a modern car, while tragic you must keep in perspective that the cause of the occupants death was the other driver, not the seat belts. Had this been a regular motorcycle or any car built before air bags the outcome would most likely, and unfortunately, been the same. Given the impact even a 4pt harness would not have guaranteed any less trauma.

"during the deceleration that comes with a forward crash / deceleration. Since our shoulder harnesses cover both shoulders holding them firmly back into our seats, a sudden deceleration injury would allow our head to flex rapidly forward and down, thereby causing fractures to the base of the skull and/or the upper cervical vertebrae. This typically causes death by several means, including damage to the upper spinal cord and/or lower part of the brain resulting in the inability to move and breath."

"The universally accepted measurement of neck tension sufficient to cause fatal injury is 4,000Newtons. The test conducted by CAPE at 42 mph and 40 g’s acceleration upon impact resultedin 5800 Newtons of neck tension. That exceeded the standard for a fatal accident by 45 percent."

"Harness sets are designed for use with a sub-strap. Use of harness set without sub-strap can cause serious injuries! The sub-strap holds the harness buckle in place over the pelvis area and helps prevent the driver from sliding down in the seat. The pelvis area can withstand 5000lbs. of load before serious injury where the abdominal area can withstand only 800 lbs.of load so it is very important that the harness remains in the proper location"

Do y'all mind if I close this thread..... I just need a yes its ok, or no leave it open.... I cant see this thread being very productive..... But its up to the majority so let me know.....

@WraithSS i read the string and to be blunt i am going to chime my 2 cents, i can and will vouch for @Noel Hughes and cyclesprings, this is one of the most sincere, caring, always there for others first that i know of, the feedback is causing drama, there was an accident- FACT- Slingshot is down-FACT- no one is hurt-FACT, please be careful-, IE please be careful, looking out for others, to disrespect him or cyclesprings because there are concerned and want all others to be safe is good in my book, brakes, whatever....you want my opinion...well i am giving it, the day you drive on a track with your SS, expect a 50/50 chance of getting in a wreck, even the pros will tell you that, unlike you, i will always buy my toys from C.S. they are the most caring folks i know.

It was not his place to post Tango's misfortune, his information was wrong, he was not there, he had no details, his claim that he didn't know who's Sling it was .....well ...... then deleting posts that either conflicted with his information or disagree with him posting it ....

Several posts where made over there that suggested he drop it and let Tango deal with it ...he of course deleted them... then an hour later, after deleting posts, and after Henry posted that Tango was OK he chose to post this here ....

Tell me what rules this broke, if it insulted anyone, or if it warranted being deleted ..... it was the third reply to his post over there

Nobody is perfect .... we all do stupid shit......in this case your friend was wrong....happens.... its what you do afterwards that shows your character.....

    .

Three wrecked Slings but no reported injuries .

Several members where in attendance .....word is Tango is fine and the damage looks worse than it is ....seems the the other two trike wrecks where Tanom Invaders .. one may have been that companies owner..........

@ethermion or @TheRock ...... anyone care to provide some first hand facts rather than gossip since posts seem to have vanished elsewhere....

    .

Talk about bad taste ..... posting before the man even has a chance to do it himself, making assumptions even though you have never seen the machine and where not there, then posting information that is just plain incorrect .......

This could be one of those [how-to] post that can only go so far. After a certain point in the instructions it would be like a [how-to] steal my slingshot.. :D:D

While I have them on all my bikes they are really not to prevent theft and I doubt any would slow down a professional. Even the tracking alarms are useless since signal blockers are readily available (causing the eminent death of Lojack) but more to keep otherwise honest people off (or out) of them. Many good people seem to loose their mind around shiny things and a long time ago I became tired of finding them taking pictures of their sticky fingered kids sitting on my bikes kicking the tank ...... I have absolutely no tolerance for disrespecting other peoples property so its as much to prevent me from being carted away to the pokey as it (the perimeter sensor) is a active deterrent. Look.....don't touch unless you ask first.....

I can tell you though, with its idiosyncrasies and sensitive systems I certainly would not let some teenage kid at a box store who may have never even seen a SLingshot before bug into any of my wiring ........

Just thought I would throw my two cents into the conversation...or should I say the Internet's two cents!! At any rate, if given a chance, change could be a good thing. Not always, but some of the time. A twenty dollar bill will still spend as a twenty dollar bill. Albeit, it won't buy as much, due to inflation.
For some, her history may not carry measurable depth. All the same, there is still history there. In my shoes, I would say it was an important part of my being here.

    .
I don't believe any one has questioned her value to history or her deserving to be honored so am at a loss with your need to "keep the peace" .... it is the means by which it is being done that I question .... that would be my same stance no matter the figure set to replace AJ on the $20 ....

Yup I sneak over to have a boo and when I refresh it doesn't look like anything updates. Guys are still asking about some of the oldest set-ups and mods. Let the newbies have it. It will drive the moderators nuts with the constant new threads for old topics.

    .

Have you noticed the moderators and admins have been posting more than ever and bringing back old threads to pump up the volume .......
