In my humble opinion, the majority of the sound you hear from the rear end is the RA drive. It has strait cut gears Vs. hypoid/worm gears. Watch a F1 race on TV. You can hear the back end howling just like the SS. Same reason. After 30,000 miles it has reduced a bunch. If it bothers you that much may I recommend a rear exit exhaust and wear a 1/2 or F F helmet. 2 cents.

Yeah, I had already earmarked the dual-low pipe ceramic exhaust that slingmods has listed before I bought the vehicle. I knew this would be a must have both for putting the noise output in the back and for getting the fumes behind me. It's a beautiful design just a little nervous about the ground clearance where the exhausts poke out.

putting those vents in that area below the lights could make it harder for people to see the nice powder coated coilovers, sway bar & end links that some of us have added

Yeah one chap in the local area has LED strips pointed inward to reflect the powder white innards he has. Not my style but it looks nice and makes it standout amongst the local slingers.

problem with this is that to get term limits you will have to get career politicians to vote to end their own jobs - its not going to happen

Sure people running for congress might say they support term limits, but as soon as they are in office that idea goes out the window never to be seriously considered again

That's why I said- "complete government overhaul" Too painful for anyone to realistically consider.

I just watched the new slingmods installation video. They do not cut the boot now. They tell you not to push the boot down tight but leave some room behind the light bulb.

I seriously doubt that's enough. That cooling fan needs airflow. The advice I was given by a professional was to cut out a hole that would allow you to expose only the fan rear poking out of the boot. I realize the threat of moisture will still be there but I think heat is a more immediate concern especially in hot summer climates.

Remember LEDs don't have filaments like HID and halogens so moisture is not as much as a threat but it is still a threat with regards to corrosion.

I am starting to think that the reason why polaris engineers went with the large cavities instead of enclosing them like we see with aftermarket items is physical flexibility. I think the low front fender corners have flexibility that wouldn't be there if there was more structure covering up the cavities. I am specifically talking about gently bumping into a parking lot curb etc and having much less give with added vent structures. Just a theory.

I will add my 1 cent to this megathread. **Term limits*. One 6-year term for senators, two 2-year terms for congress-folk, a decent severance package and some tough anti-lobbyist laws with top-rate independent oversight. Do this and we will have the greatest government on the planet. President term limits are fine at 8 years.

Until this happens it will be business as usual whether we have a corrupt real estate mogul that is Trump or a career corrupt politician like Biden/Clinton/Obama/Bush.

Alas these changes can never happen thanks to the wolves (corrupt politicians) guarding the hen house (law changing body). Only a complete government overhaul could pull it off and I fear that it would destroy the country as we know it in the process.

neostar I don't have slingmods brand but my LEDs have been on my sling for at least 2 years now without any issue with moisture etc and I removed the boots altogether.

I originally killed my first set of LEDs in 3 days with the boot on, got replacements and removed the boots and no issues ever since.

This was the confirmation I needed. I would rather take a chance with moisture than trapped heat any day. Going to take the boots off when I install. Thanks for the input.

did you do anything to the boot like cut holes or did you just install as per the slingmods instruction video?

Any links for those newer "ribbon" led lights would be appreciated!

I was talking to a pro-installer (sound and light auto shop). I was talking to him specifically about the led+fans combo kits and the potential heat build-up with the boot and he responds that there are better tech using ribbons. I just did a cursory internet search and all I see are the led lighting ribbons that we are seeing with new cars where the led ribbons trace around the headlamps as DRL but I have yet to see direct headlamp replacements.

Not sure if he was generalizing or really did mean headlamps with ribbon tech.

Been hearing about the outer lamps failing due to heat not dissipating thanks to the rubber boot on the back of the assembly. Obviously the engineers have the boot to keep moisture out thanks to how close they are to the wheel wells. My question to the group that have own these have you seen failures?

One recommendation that I am tempted to do is cutting small holes to let the heat out. I also know the slingmods install video says to leave space between the assembly and the bottom of the boot. I just don't think that's enough to keep the heat down.

    Comments please...

I also heard only after ordering these lights that there are newer LED tech that are ribbon-based and don't require fans. I wish I had ordered those instead.:/

Here is my idea of car model lettering done right....

Note how discreet and small it is compared to the rest of the car? Had polaris done something like this I would probably not be taking it off.

But I get it, polaris doesn't have a rep like pontiac did with the trans-am so they want to blast the slingshot name brand to everyone within eyeshot.

    To each their own.

BTW I was never a fan of the bandit phoenix look of the old trans-ams.

I removed the "slingshot sl" from the fin. thought about removing the hood badge, but never got around to it. now its been on there so long I would be afraid it would leave shadowing. What I would really like to get rid of is the "POLARIS" on the nose

You and I think alike. All I want on my fin is what I have on the upper center portion namely batman logos on each side. Once I move my windshield logo down to the lower front hood section it will be perfectly balanced. I visited a friend who had no clue what I showing up in and he said the first thing he noticed (after taking in the whole effect) were the fin and windshield logos. Being that he is a batman nut like me, he really dug it.

Ironically even with all that slingshot labeling I still get asked what is it called and sometimes I just gesture to the obnoxiously large hood lettering to answer the question.

So yeah I would rather legitimately answer the question because there is no "slingshot" name in sight. It's all preference and I am just glad I can do these little things without costing much. It would make no sense to these types of modifications for a real car. I would never say, de-badge a corvette because come on it's a corvette!

But a slinger, yeah no probs here. At the end of the day, it my little toy batmobile that I can drive and that's all I want.

Oh and I totally agree with that "polaris" nose piece. I wish I knew someone who could 3d print a proper nose/nostril to replace it with. BTW here is what my old batmobile looked like 20 years ago. So yeah that nose is what I would love to have with the slinger. I was ok with the lettering on that one :)Image result for pontiac trans am ram air

I also like the way it finishes off the front end of the SS. They're on my list, but wanted to see more units installed on other SS's before I pulled the trigger. It showcases the springs and rods and such which compliment the accent color on my SS (red), which when I first bought it, the first thing I did was start ripping the vinyl decals off immediately and planned on plasti dipping the red rods and such because I don't care for red too much, but now I think I'm going to leave them red and showcase them to compliment the rest of the red bits.

Since day one my plan is to debadge the slinger. I really don't like the lettering and to me it's just unpaid advertisement. It's just my preference but I don't care for lettering and labels. The polaris icon badge is actually not bad and if I wasn't going for a batmobile motif I would keep it but I am going to replace it with the batman logo I currently have on the windshield. My plan is to make the bright orange piping pop against the black gloss. My only bummer is that I can't maintain a continuous stripe line going from front to back because of the plastic panels that make that hard to get right.

All, great feedback. Interesting I knew the belt was just as strong as a chain but I thought the trade off to using it was more noise generation. 20 yrs ago when I was riding sport bikes I didn't notice the noise of the chain much but this belt especially at low speed/low gear really stands out. Oh well at least I know now that the noise generation isn't that bad all things considered.

I am curious does anyone know if it's even feasible. The reason why I ask is I noticed that the belt makes a lot of noise that is most noticeable at slower speeds and I assume if it was a chain instead of a rubber belt it would be much quieter. To the motorcycle grease monkeys out there am I wrong with this assumption?

looking at pictures of the madstad windshields it looks as if they use the same mounts as the Polaris OEM double bubble. This would lead me to believe that the mounts should be the same on the newer years

well if the seller on amazon is saying 15-16 only I will pass on the purchase for now. Hopefully at the upcoming local gatherings I will spot one and get the dope on it.
