    I'll start y'all out with a photo of Ruby on Labor Day weekend. (I attached the second photo just to prove it was me.)

    This is really odd. When I brought Ruby home, I was all set to order convex mirrors from Slingmods first thing... then I noticed both mirrors were marked:

    "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear"

    And yeah, I wouldn't ride without them!

    Mine did not, they were flat and showed no extra view. Adding the slingmods convex ones did wonders.


    So, curious if my dealer put on older ones, or they have different ones? The factory does not put the mirrors on, that's a dealers job. For two reasons, per the factory tour, they will get banged up when they are loaded into the shipping crates and two, weight, they are an "addon" and not required to be part of the weighing process.

    Very interesting! I was unaware that these were not standard equipment. Ruby came with them, nothing in the specs indicated that they were an SLR exclusive.

    I didn't imagine that Polaris would make different mirrors for different models!

    Please give an update after driving in the dark, and tag me if you would. I've held off, mostly because many LED's don't pierce the night and project far enough. A few of the ones that do will only get you flashed by oncoming cars all the time. Need some that are a happy mix of the two. Also, with my Sling having the Canada version front lights, I have 6 of them, so that will get many people thinking they are on high beam just for that reason.

    That is the real problem with the LED light. You can't go by the 6000K (which means bright white) and you can't even go by lumens even though that usually helps. It's how far the light is projected by our lenses. I ride my Sling to work on any decent day, and I leave the house at 5:20. Even on the earliest sunrise days, I still leave in the dark (although for about a month I get there with some light showing up). I need better lighting than I have now, definitely not worse.

    Well, I had a chance to test these new lights out & compare them to standard lamps on my SUV.

    The throw on these LEDs are almost exactly the same as my Hyundai Santa Fe. The difference is that the slingshot lamps have a more precise cutoff where the SUV lights dribble off gradually.

    The good part about this is that I don't blind oncoming cars. So far, I'm quite satisfied, but I can see where others would want a longer throw.


    I'm going to play with aiming, see if I can come up with a way to adjust the position of the bulb in the socket to take better advantage of the projector reflector design.


    I'd also like to know if anyone has played with adjusting the high-beam louvers? I think if I could raise the 'down position' a bit I would have a lot better results.


    I'll let folks here know how I get on.

    I didn't see anything about a warranty. My experience is that warranties like that aren't worth much - they try to wriggle out of their obligations, ignore you, etc.

    For about $35, I'll take my chances. So far, I've been lucky. All the LEDs ive put in are working properly.

    Timely thread........Driving home this morning I was thinking today I should do a lights on walk around to make sure they all work. I stopped in a gas station and I can see my reflection in the front doors.....one of my center lights is not working....


    Doc.....you put 4 sided lights in the center....why not on the others? Or don’t they make them for the outside lights...

    I looked for a 44-sided version of the H3 lights but couldn't find any.

    The ones I purchased have several advantages

    1. IP67 waterproof, don't need the boot. Heat destroys electronic devices!

    2. Shorter bulb, much closer to the standard focus point set for the halogen bulbs.

    3. These have the same design as the sets offered by slingmods - the collar mounts inside the housing with the existing spring clips, then the bulb snaps in. Easy as pie to mount.

    4. They have a CanBus compatible ballast that prevents flickering and does not interfere with the radio.

    Do they recommend installing close to the road? Can you rotate the bar up or down or is it in a fixed position?

    This is designed for a roll bar or above the bumper installation, but I did some extra waterproofing by taking the end caps off & sealing them with silicone. Added a bead of silicone around the plexiglass lens, and added silicone to seal the wires where they came out of the housing.

    The body is heavy cast aluminum, the mount points are steel. I replaced screws with stainless steel from Home Depot. I used mounting clamps to att attach light bar to the tubular frame just behind the front bodywork. Clamps and adjustable mounts on light bar itself gave me all the adjustability I needed to aim it correctly. Wired into unused fog light wiring, perfect! Considered adding a switch, but decided against it. Light bar comes on with rest of the lighting and improves my daylight visibility to other drivers.

    We lived in Kissimmee in 2004. Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeane. Every other weekend . . . here comes another one. I thought our last night on earth was the night when Charley went over us.

    That's why we are back in Iowa. Give me a blizzard any day.

    One of the best things I did for visibility was to install a 12-inch Nilight light bar under the front spoiler.


    This has 2 rows of 12 lights. The 3 outside lamps are 130 degree flood lights, the central 6 are 60 degree spot lights. One lights the area in front & sides of the sling, the other projects well down the road. Since this sits 10-12 inches back, it cannot shine UP and bother other drivers. This is a 72 watt, 10,000 lumen device (total output). IP67 waterproof, designed for off-road use - very rugged. I added some extra waterproof silicone caulk since I was installing it under the vehicle, but have had no problems with it in 8 months since installing it. Cost $20 plus another $12 for mounting brackets.

    I work until 8 tonight, and I drive home on a road without street lights. Also drive to work about 6am Thursday, so this should be a good test. I'll tag you when I know more.

    Looking Good. I replaced mine with another brand of LEDs during the Amazon Prime Sale, but noticed that they don't throw really far even though they are also 6000K White. Let me know how far your's throw down the road in front of you when driving.

    Having replaced the center bulbs 2 weeks ago, I can tell you I definitely get a longer throw from them.

    I DID make sure to select 4-sided H9 bulbs as suggested by dangerdarrell . These do a significantly better job than the 2-sided ones. The H3 bulbs for the outside lamps are only 2-sided, but the manufacturer claims that they are tuned for 3x better throw than halogen bulbs.... I'ma take that claim with a large grain of salt until I test it out.

    I am also hoping for better coverage off the front corners of the sling - I've noticed a real lack when coming home over dark country roads and taking corners blind last spring. That was what led me on the quest to add the light bar, and now the full LED light kit up front.

    I'll give a better review here in a few days...

    Finished swapping out the outer halogen bulbs for new H3 LEDs this afternoon.


    These bulbs really are "plug & play". They come with an H3 collar that fits the existing housing & retaining springs. They also have a CanBus module that makes them flicker free, they don't interfere with my radio so far as I can tell, either.



    Once the collar is in, the LED module just snaps in with a twist, connect the wires and you're done.

    Since these are waterproof (IP-68?), I cut away the rubber boot and left the cooling fan exposed. Zip tie the wires up and I was done with both sides in 15 minutes!



    The best part? All 4 lamps replaced for under $70. Going to give them a test this week, I leave for work at 6am most days and i get back late tomorrow. So far, i love these!
