$ $ $ $ $ & $ Sorry that spending for mods was moving the wrong way. Glad your here, enjoy the ride. Get lots of seat time in before going to crazy on the mods.

Thanks. I just got out of Rehab, for a Harley addiction that I had for years! Got that monkey off my back, and made it about 6 months, before I feel off the wagon, and into a sling addiction! But I promised myself during rehab I’m only going to do very little mods to this thing😳😪🤪

angie@WP or JeffWelter can help with answers. If you want to avoid fumes ss much as possible gomwith the welter sidekick. Get the 2.5 so you are ready for your supercharger!! I had the sidekick and loved it, but at ES jeff talked me into test driving his with the new FSX. Once my wife and I took off she said oh yea. You want this one!!!! Love it.

Now I have the splash guards gone and the wheel fenders so mine sticks straight out. I think this helps with any fumes.

Since I already have the 1320 V2 system installed, I was trying to stick with that. Welter is definitely top notch I’m sure, and the price point reflects that as well! I really haven’t had a chance to drive, and study the fume issue. I bought this thing just as winter started, then we’ve had the rainiest season in some years. I was hoping for a quick fix, but not having dealt with the Slings before I didn’t realize that this is a much bigger issue? Having Ridden, built, and modded Harley’s for many years I’m sure something will workout. I foolishly thought I could keep cost down. Hahahahaha.

    Thanks guys for insights👍

well I am installing the 1320 cat delete pipe onto the stock system. but if the fumes and smell is going to be far worse than what it currently is then I will have to wait until I can change out the exhaust also. Rear exhaust is best? I guess I will start pricing so I can start saving.

I did read in a different thread however, that installing the Cold Air Intake (CAI) would cut down on the exhaust smell due to more air in also means more air out so more gas is being used in the process so less is coming out the backside. Not that I completely understand the entire process but it sounds like it makes perfect sense.

Not sure that a CAI will be a game changer, but usually when you add high flow header exhaust, it’s in conjunction with the high flow intake! Which makes total sense! I’m looking at them now. And I thought I was done with high priced Parts after I sold the Harley. Boy was I wrong😳

I put on the 1320 with quad tips and it helped with the heat but the noise and the fumes were always there. Changed it for a side kick but unfortunately it started to snow in September so I didn't take it out for a real work out. I may have burned off the new smell but it is slightly quieter but I am still getting fumes in the cockpit.

I have the exit exhaust turned up a bit as it looks cool but it maybe has to go parallel to the ground. I missed out on Jeff's 30 day free trial so it is the last exhaust for awhile.

I don't know if the quad tips fit on the 1320 muffler you have but if you want to try it out this muffler pipe let me know and you can pay shipping.

    I’ll send you a pm!

You might just put your factory exhaust back on till you figure out just what you want to do. Also, your wife will love the Sling again!

Already ahead of you DD. Just got it out of attic, to start that process. But I think I’m going to get a few more test miles with different fuels just for giggles! Well when it quits raining that is☹️

Melloreel , I have a supercharger and have had the tune. I still occasionally get fumes but that’s normally just when driving slow around town. I rarely drive slow :). I had exhaust fumes issues with my first SS after I put on the header and kept the factory muffler. Exhaust exiting right under the vehicle will always have issues.

There are way too many variables with an open cockpit to say one thing or another will solve the issue. Some people have brought there exhaust all the way out the back and some of these still get occasional fumes. Go to a meet and see how others have solved the issue. Ride along and see if you like their setup. Keep working on it and you will find what works best for you.

I think you are correct, but it’s burning the wifeys eyes, so I was thinking there would be a quick fix, but alas it’s not meant to be! Hope to make Daytona, if they have a meet during bike week this spring, and really would like to make the MV meet in June👍

I'm running the same header/exhaust combo along with a F4 +3 windshield with Baker Air Wings and fumes are not a problem for me. I do seem to remember smelling the exhaust a little more with the stock windshield but that may have been from it being new as I got the F4 not long after the exhaust.

Can you post a pic of your windshield setup? Curious about the Baker wing setup!

Have to disagree on one point SlingRider, HeRSling has the new Welter side exit and the fumes in the passenger side are terrible. She doesn’t have the issue in the drivers side but I rode with her once and the heat and fumes were way to much. In Jeff’s defense, I totally forgot to contact him about this since I drive my SS and rarely hers. When I have driven hers I have not noticed the fumes at all on the drivers side. PLEASE DO NOT take this as being critical of Welter products. I have the Welter Stealth on mine and have no issues except when sitting in traffic with the wind blowing from behind. I will get with Jeff ASAP to discuss the issue and will let everyone know the resolution. Jeff and his people are do fantastic work and I am certain the issue will be resolved.

I find it odd that everyone seems to have a different experience with fumes. Same setup on two different Slings, and one has them, other don’t🤔 I’m getting fumes on the drivers side, as well as passenger side🤬 That takes me back to “Tuning”, are some motors running richer than others? With EPA mandates, and Polaris having the tune locked down, unless you want to spend $500 and that’s not a guarantee that the fume issue will go away!

As strong as the fumes are in my sling, and it’s not even summer yet when you can smell fumes from the car in front of you here, what’s the answer? Without much testing, and dollars I’m not sure☹️ Oh-closest dealer for me is 2 1/2 ours away so no quick checks!

    Thanks for input guys👍

Dave at DDM works was doing some wind tunnel testing. Maybe new info will come out.

I was hoping to see some smoke video to really see how the air is moving past, around and in the Slingshot.

Now your talking good stuff! I would love to see a smoke video on air flow in cabin, and around the sling. I think it would provide a lot of insight into fume mitigation? Also for aero dynamic accessories👍 Thanks.

I fixed it on my SS by making some changes to my top, I now have air flow in the cockpit

How about winter driving? Our climate is about the same as yours I would guess? It gets chilly, and really cold in Jan-Feb. That’s why I was thinking Top, and taller shield to extend riding time?

I do not have a rear wind restrictor, but from my understanding they increase the amount of dead air in the cockpit. If you are already experiencing fumes, I would probably not recommend the wind deflector.

I had read that the only fix (per the post I read on another page) was the rear air deflector, due to the rear design of a sling pulling fumes up, and over into cockpit?

That’s why I’m confused🤔 There are many post, and much talk of fume issues, but no real answers? Surely in 4 model years someone would have figured something out???

And the search goes on. Thanks guys.

I would give some consideration to installing a turbo system to your ride. it might not do anything about the fumes, but it will allow you to get away from them a lot easier :whistling::whistling::whistling:

Best reply yet😂😂😂😂😂😂 I thought I was done with race bike motors, but maybe not😳Dang it........

Loud I can't help with but give the exhaust some time to burn in and see if the fumes get a little better - remember once you eliminate the cat you will always have more fumes. I am running a side exhaust and once the new muffler burned it the fumes got much better. My wife hardly notices. But then again she does turn blue and fall asleep!

    Turns blue😂😂

This exhaust was lightly used when I got it, and I’ve put a few miles on it so I think the burn off is done. it seems to me this motor is running extremely rich, but I’m not sure so maybe tune?

A lot has been written on here about the fumes. The two worse things to increase he fumes are tall wind screens and tops. Which make for a low pressure area in the cock pit. Personally I have never had the fume problem I have the 2015 stock blade that has been cut off about 3 inches so to look over it. I also am running one of the first United Performance tops ever installed. Also with one of the very first Welter Duals ever installed. The CAI has nothing to do with the fumes.

Yes sir I have read a lot about the fumes. But after working on numerous Harley’s as a hobby, which also suffers from cockpit air issues (wind) I never would have thought making an exhaust that would overcome (placement, design) the low cabin pressure would be such a challenge🤔

As for CAI, to make a Harley, or any gas engine run it’s best when modifying the air/exhaust is to always do the threes if possible (intake, exhaust, tune) but as I said this is a different animal. So the search continues, as I plan to add a top this summer so I’m sure fumes will increase☹️

Ok guys. I bought the 1320 V2 header, and exhaust with new type silencer in muffler. Told wifey it would be just a little louder. It’s much louder, which I don’t like that it’s right at her feet, but can live with that. Now. The fumes is a whole different animal. I have a 2016.5 so I ordered the Heat kit from Slingmods, and installed the engine bay area pieces while I had exhaust out. Not sure if that helped or hurt fuming? I have the OEM ripper I think it’s called windshield (one with vents), and really wanting to goto F4+5 since it’s winter. As it gets hotter in Georgia fumes get worse, so trying to find a fix before wifey gets even more unhappy. Always did full stage ones on my Harley’s so you had a little smell, but this thing is crazy🤬

Questions: will CAI help control fumes, as I have exhaust only now! Does anyone make an adapter kit to extend the pipe to rear of sling? Hate to remove exhaust just to buy same 1320 with the Vee clamp? I’ve read a lot on fumes with Sling, and not sure what’s correct. Rear wind deflector the answer? Sorry for long post, but I’m in trouble here😬

Where did you get this BS from? Reuse the nuts. There is nothing wrong with them.

From the Factory Polaris service manual. “Remove exhaust stud nuts, and discard” I assume due to being repeatedly heated, and cooled it causes distortion resulting in exhaust leak? Or it makes them $48.00! Take your pick:/

Installing a 1320 V2 header, and muffler this weekend, and from what I’ve read it is not recommended to reuse the nuts from exhaust manifold studs? I looked at OEM nuts, but at $4.20 each there has to be a better way? I’ve read that it’s best to go back with copper coated, but not sure if I can source local, or even proper size?

    Thanks.
