I would like to see a 10% rear wheel HP gain - I kind of feel that anything less than that won't be noticeable behind the wheel. Ideally, I would like to hit the 210 - 225 rear wheel HP level.

The question for me isn't how many dollars for an increase in performance, but how much performance I can get before my very limited budget runs out.

As things stand now (and depending on data from Kyle D, I can see myself getting a header, cat-delete muffler, and then in a year or so, a tune. Next winter would be a good time for a tune as I don't drive Ruby much in December/January.

actually that does make me wonder - - - what percentage increase is needed before most people actually would notice?

also looking at the dyno charts the big thing I notice is that with the exhaust / muffler system the power gain may not be huge, but it does look like it comes on much earlier and then stays up there longer - - from a "feel" point of view this could do more from a drive-ability point of view then just the max numbers would imply - - what do others here think about that?

Thanks so much Kyle D for all the work you're doing, cant wait to see the tune #s. I don't know if too many were surprised with the CAI numbers as most of us have known since the 70's flipping the air breather on our big H.P. muscle cars always delivered a throatier sound but never ,never delivered a faster 1/4 mile time if the factory system wasn't restrictive by design. CAI's add bling under the hood but that's about it.

The shocker for me is the SLR Polaris CAI . A lot have known the stock CAI was not restrictive in any way and provided as much air as the volumetric dimensions of a 2.4 liter cylinder is capable of drawing in, but what shocks me is Polaris designing a SLR CAI that these numbers prove is slightly restrictive and actually reduces 2 W.H.P. WTF ! People pay good money for the SLR and that Polaris SLR C.A.I. While sounding cooler should also have maintained adequate air flow, not slightly reduced it !!

But of course while we will know better, the Polaris Dealers as they are all just glorified UTV , Snowmobile dealers , will never be able to phathom this. To them if the Polaris published h.p. ratings don't drop in the specs,,,, well you get the point.

Frankly the thing that surprised me the most was how the Cat delete pipe produced almost no increase in power. I was actually expecting it to do much more, I don't know why, but I just had it in my head that the cat would be the big restriction in the stock system and that once removed numbers would be close to what you got with the header/muffler - - - boy was I wrong

It's the exact same muffler, To be honest, we have never discussed it. But I am sure it would be something we could accommodate. However, typically when you sit with someone and discuss options and you start laying out power numbers and price 99% of the people just go straight to the turbo kit. But yes I am sure that is something we could accommodate.

Something you had mentioned in a previous post was about having PCM cores on hand. We will soon have that option to test it and see how it goes and if it is worth it. I have 2 PCMs on the way. As I stated before, it's a very large investment so at this time I have purchased 2 PCMs. Once I have them, I will have it listed as an option for the turbo kit but people will need to email me directly prior to purchase to see if I have any cores. If I do I can send one and if not, there will be the option to wait until I get a core back or just send your core to CBM for the initial tune.

Thank you Kyle - - you are fantastic. It is great that you are testing out the core idea, I really hope it is something that works for you and I am sure there are people who will really appreciate the option of avoiding the down time :thumbsup::thumbsup:

It would seem that if power is what you are after when making mods that going boosted would be the most efficient way get there. Considering this if one were trying to work their way there that it would be wise to make mods that could be carried forward and still be functional with the boosted system

considering this I have a question for Kyle D - The muffler that you are selling with the header, is this the same muffler that you supply with your turbo kit? and if it is would your company be willing to offer your turbo kit without the muffler at a slightly reduced price to people who had already purchased your header / muffler system?

I may never be in a position to boost my slingshot, but it would be nice to know that if I make smaller improvements now that they would not be wasted if I ever do go turbo

thank you for all the work and also for all of this information. I was hoping the cat delete would provide a bigger improvement. knowing these numbers it would seem it would be much smarter to do your header and muffler system - - - it will be interesting to see how much the tune adds

Thanks again - - - having this kind of information is gold for someone like me on a very limited mod budget

In all my years in law I have NEVER seen such a shit show as this Smollett deal. IMO there are some VERY powerful people behind the scenes forcing this deal !!

I highly suspect that if I falsely reported that I had been assaulted by gay black men yelling that black lives matter I would not get off so easily

the double standards in our legal system that favor those with money and those who are seen as being on the "correct side" of the issues are disgusting

A black gay man who is clearly anti Trump and anti Trump supporter gets favorable treatment in the legal system - - does that really surprise anyone?

If an optima battery drops below 10 amps you’re screwed....

The Optima is just an AGM battery - it is spiral wound, but otherwise it is the same, and just like other AGM batteries it can require a charger with special AGM settings, but also like other AGM batteries it will have several advantages - - the "motorcycle" battery that now comes in the slingshot is also an AGM battery so changing to an Optima or other larger AGM type battery should not pose any different or additional risks

On the other hand switching to a standard flooded cell battery will come with new problems like water evaporation and much higher corrosion issues

All types of batteries have their own set of problems/issues that are unique to their design. and personally I would take the advantages of the AGM type over the possible charging issues any day - - just cleaner and easier IMO

the battery in the Slingshot is an AGM type battery - its sealed and water shouldn't be a big problem - cant even check it, also in the back of the slingshot the battery may be a bit harder to get to, but is about as far from the heat of the engine as it could possible be which is a very good thing

As to Cold Cranking Amps - - - is the measure of the amps a battery can provide at 0 degrees without dropping below 7.2 volts something I really should be concerned with here where it is never going to get even close to zero?

the regular cranking amps should be much higher than the CCA at 32 degrees or higher and I would suspect a 400 CCA battery is probably in excess of 600 amps at normal temperatures

I have thought about changing out my smaller 30L motorcycle battery for a larger car size battery, but I dont have any added electrical things that would increase the drain on the battery and I also love that I can walk into my local batteries + Bulbs and find several options in stock if I were to need a replacement.. With prices ranging from 109 to 159 it just seems much more reasonable than what it would cost to upgrade to a yellow top especially with the needed conversion mounting brackets.

Where I live it doesn't get cold so having a huge CCA number over the 400 I can get in the 30L doesnt seem necessary so am I wrong? would the larger battery really give me enough of a longer life to offset the extra expense?

Since this is a thread about the potential gain provided by things like a mod or a tune I am curious if you attach a dollar value or limit to what you expect to gain?

for example if a particular mod were going to potentially give you 5 more horsepower how much is a fair price for that gain (assuming there were no other benefits to the mod)?

It seems reasonable that there is a point where anyone would say it just isnt worth it, and I also expect that point is different for each of us so I am curious to know what people think

so do you require a minimum gain before you will invest or is any improvement enough to get your $$

I don't have one. Even in the times that they deemed certain rifles "assault weapons", I thought that they still had stipulations on those that existed which were purchased legally in the first place. I know states have done banning of items before, but I don't remember it at the federal level (at least in terms of weapons). This is a slippery slope.

Do I need one? No, I don't even want one or I would already have it. But for it to have been legal to be manufactured and purchased, but now will be not legal to own after a date the feds come up with is very disturbing to me. This would set precedence, and could be used to ban or outlaw every weapon or related item in the future. Next on the chopping block could be the Slingshots.

Argument could be made that this bump stock ban is only common sense. But there are a large percentage of those working at the federal level that have none of that said "common sense". Not to mention, no one that has one that plans to use it as a mass killing machine will turn one in anyway. Besides, a killer could modify the weapon in other ways with a similar result. Remember, killing people (mass murder or just one murder) is already against the law.

I agree. I don't like the idea that something legally purchased and owned can retroactively be made against the law, that a law biding person can suddenly be a criminal. As a gun owner in California this has happened to me. A gun I own legally has been re classified as an assault weapon and I have been forced to either modify it, get rid of it or register it. I modified it because I knew about the law change, but Its not right, what if I didnt follow these things and didnt know the law changed? I can guarantee that most people don't and the fact that you can be made a criminal by doing nothing is very frightening to me.

I don't like it, I know they say that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law, but how is a person to know if they change the laws after the fact? You were told it was legal, you bought it and you installed it and then you put it away and didnt think about it - - and now you go out and shoot it and you can go to jail or be fined and arrested - - - - - - really?????

I am not talking GM's rated HP. It is just like Kyle D also just said, different dyno's and you get different numbers. Where it helps you is when you are doing what Kyle is doing, make a change and see if you get a HP/torque increase or decrease and how much. That number, relates to the changes that you have made. I have seen on another dyno 155 rwhp stock, not even CAI, I think it was. Or was it 143 hp? I am old so my memory is not the best in the world

you are correct. dyno numbers are great for this type of testing, but they dont really mean much when comparing different vehicles on different dynos on different days. Just too many variables. Heck even two identical cars fresh of the assembly line tested one after the other would most likely produce different numbers just because of the tolerances allowed in the building process. To be the same they would all have to be "balanced and blueprinted" and exactly the same which in the real world never happens

    2015 2.4 heat shield

Is ours an LE 9 or Le 5

DDM works sells the GM heat shield in their slingshot section and say it is GM Heat Shield - 12633413

"On the Slingshot the early prototype pictures showed a nice factory heat shield over the exhaust manifold, however all of the cars we have seen do not have it when delivered. Since the stock exhaust manifold is cast iron, it will surface rust and not look as good. So we tracked down the part number for the original exhaust heat shield from GM and made it available here. We have been installing them to add a little heat protection under the hood and also a little dress up in the engine bay. "

here is the link, its $25

Just remember, different Dyno's different numbers

well the 173 hp number that Polaris shows in the specs is the same as what is shown in the specs for the various solstices and sky's that use the same motor - this makes me suspect that Polaris has never even put the slingshot on a dyno. I suspect they just report generic numbers as provided by GM.

if they actually reported their own specs as shown on a dyno I would think the numbers would be a bit different
