@Painter and I use a hammer. One person pulls on the steering wheel and the other hits the nut with the hammer.

That will work at times. I've found the best way to pull one that's stuck really good (read as "How did they weld this thing?") is to use the puller, just as @MBMedic did. First tighten the side bolts until the thread tightens up and is starting to bottom out in the threaded holes in the steering wheel. Then, get good tension on the center bolt, and give a nice brisk tap on the end of the center bolt with a hammer. Metal hammer works best, as you are looking for the shock value to free up the tension you've put on the spline.

I just did mine, put this Assault D steering wheel (that I got from SlingMods) on last evening.

I feel I need to also share my story here. First off, thanks to @rabtech for going the extra mile to set this site up. I wasn't here for the transition, I was only reading on the Dark Side as an outsider. I have only joined this site (Slingshot related), and one other. The other site I've posted one or two times, and haven't been there for a very long time... likely 5 months. I am on a few on FB, but not very active on those either. This is my go to site, and I spend about 1/2 my social tech time here. The things I've notice the most are the friendships, helpful advice and willingness to help in times of need, and lack of trolls/bashing here. Most try to be helpful, and those that know something, state it as a known fact (like a repair or upgrade from experience). Those that aren't sure, but have a suggestion that they think might work, say so.... but also let it be known that it's theory only, and not proven to work. Unlike most other places, that give out bad info and stand by it like it's fact.

Sorry this is long, but my story is similar. I have been, and still am, a Harley rider most of my adult life. I've logged 450,000 miles in my riding career. About a decade ago, I joined a forum, called the BigWildPanheadSaloon. It was started by 3 guys, nicknamed Big (short for Bigincher, relating to the 115 CI powerplant he planned to install in his Softail), Wild, and Pan. There were between 1200 and 1400 members, and the forum was very busy. But it was busy with the wrong people, and "Big" attempted to correct that. Pan wanted only the $$ from sponsorship, and from the site sales... so numbers were more important to him. He threw Big under the bus... even though the site would never have been if not for Big who designed it. Long story shortened (much more it it, I'll spare the ugly details), about 20 of us left, and started up a site that's by invitation only. Today, that site (DoubleCrossSaloon) still is up and running. The other one died within a year of us leaving, because most of the knowledge on Harleys left with us.

This was worked better though. Somehow, the problem people haven't been on here much. Yet the place has grown. I'm just thankful to be a part of it, and hope to meet up with as many as I can in the future.

First off, I don't care either way whether we get a preview or not. I would lean toward seeing it, as my mail out in the sticks sucks at times (as in lost mail, never received). I still haven't heard from Polaris on my recall if that tells you anything, and I called my dealer and got on the list the day after it was announced here. So here's my insight on this....

Put a link in here to another area. Limit the area to no posting, just the pictures. Any that want to preview, accept that they can not share or post to that link. We are all trustworthy here, right? (may be some sarcasm, but really I think with this we are) That way, if you want to preview you can, but won't spoil others that don't want to. For myself, it's likely I wouldn't get the calendar (two actually) until a week after everyone else anyway. At least I could see it before everyone is talking about how great it is.... and mine hasn't shown up yet.

@MiM We could for sure. I've even considered designing a stronger/quieter angle drive...

Here are a couple of pictures to show the process a little. I can't really show you a good pic of a part with gating, as it would be a trademark/confidentiality issue for me. But this part you can't actually see the part, and the runner/gating is not under those same rules.

Hmmmm, if they are there now, why are they not on original SA?.

I suspect that they have changed the way they feed the metal into the SA. I would guess that it wasn't fed in that area to begin with, and they have left part of the gating to strengthen an area that has failed before. As the aluminum cools, that area is the largest area, so it will stay liquid longest as the SA sets up. When the metal cools and solidifies, it shrinks and those "metal plates" as you called them stay liquid long enough to continue feeding into the shrinkage area.

Apologies if I offended anyone, it was not my intent. I'm here to learn, make friendships, and help where I can. This is one area I really know about. I'm senior tool designer for a prototype and low production run sand cast factory. I've been working at my current position here for 21 years, and at another place for 6 years before that. I was a manual machinist for 11 years prior to designing tools. It's what I've made my living by all my adult life... making and machining castings like the SA, transmission housings, transfer cases and covers and so on. (And yes, I'm old as $#!t 8o )

Casting is different, metal plates welded on curves, all new bearings

If you are referring to the pic IMG_0566, those are not welded on. This is a sand cast part, and those are where the runners (Gating) feed the pour into the sand mold. The runners with the risers will weigh about 50% of the swingarm weight. After sawing off the runners, there's no reason to grind them down flush as they only increase the strength of the area in the bend. When I started seeing these fail, I knew it was either dirt getting in the process (loose sand from the mold) or shrinkage in the aluminum from not being gated correctly. If the metal pours in too quickly, it will wash off some of the sand and cause problems. If it goes too slowly, the metal starts to chill before it has filled all the mold. That makes a weak spot, if bad enough will leave a hole in the casting.

And not to step on anyone's toes @BryanL, but to make any use of a zerk fitting you would need to change the bearing. Those are sealed from what I see in the pics.

Service guy at the dealer said that every time he sees someone with leaking angle drive seals, they've changed the fluid out to an aftermarket 75w140. Said RP is the worst, starts leaking every time, and we should be using the Polaris branded angle drive oil because it's formulated for the drive. Showed me the bottle, no viscosity marking on it, but he said he knew for a fact it is thicker than 75e140.

I just looked at him and said, "Huh. Ok." Wasn't in the mood to argue.

Glad to see we have not only expert service guys out there, but also willing to share their insights with the commoners.... (Thick sarcasm if you didn't catch that)

Mine leaked from day one. Guess when they built mine they put in Royal Purple by mistake. :whistling:

I'm still running stock on the front. I got caught in an evening rain after dark with the stock rear with near 10k on it. I was trying to get thru the season with that tire, but replaced it the very next day. I went with General G-Max, in stock size. Does better than stock in rain, handles at least as good, and appears to be wearing very well. I've put nearly 3k on it, and so far it still looks new. Only complaint is that it is louder when you break traction. The stock tire would spin, and not attract attention as much (read as "by the local police"). The G-Max bawls like a baby. Has a good looking tread design also. I'd go up a size in width next time though.

Welcome! As far as Slingshots go, you have just found the best forum period. Great people, vast knowledge, even vendors occasionally with discounts. It's all here....

Welcome @RaiAvila! As others have stated, you are going to love this place! I'm not on here much weekends or holidays, but I do catch up when I can. Great amount of knowledge here, and plenty of fun and respect too! Very few trolls (only one comes to my mind, from the politics suck thread) and that makes this place the most enjoyable Sling forum for me!

@rabtech, I couldn't "like" your original post on here. Just too painful to know what you have been dealing with, and holding to yourself. I'm very sorry it all went down this way. Your words were well thought out, and you were a gentleman in delivering this bad news. Very nice to see such honesty on a forum, not sucking up to nor bashing a vendor in your post. Being in manufacturing myself, I know how things like this can happen. I would like to see Alpha step up and do something to resolve this. I love their products, and have plans to buy the luggage system they have and possibly CAI setup. This will not change my plans. While I would love a turbo setup, I likely will leave mine naturally aspirated. I could always use more HP, but even in stock form the SS is no slouch. Seems everything I hop up to get more from, tends to find something else as a weak spot. I've put an average of 2,000 miles a month on mine for the 6 months I've owned it. Hoping to get the reliability instead.

Like @ShutterBug said, you don't have a corner on the market on those types of feelings. I would have been the same. I tell myself it's just a machine, a tool that is designed not for work but for play.... to make me smile and enjoy. But I get attached like an old friend, a family member. It's that way with my old truck, my Harley, and even more so with the SS.

Glad you were just ahead of it @Tripod! I have been close to accidents like that myself. Seems I've either been just ahead, or just behind enough to make the difference. I always was thankful it wasn't my time yet, and I'm glad it wasn't yours either!

Welcome @Raguncagun! This is the best forum for Slingshots out there by far!

Although Trump won this election per the Electoral College ( >270), Hillary actually won the presidency based upon the popular vote. She won the popular vote by a small margin. If we were a true democracy, & not a Republic, she would be President. That is what scares the hell out of me - over 1/2 the nation believes in the left-wing, socialist, progressive drivel. I hate to be a doomsayer but believe that this election has only delayed the inevitable demise of this once-great nation. I assure you, the left will NOT give up. It's only a matter of time: tick-tock... This country is going downhill fast & is not the same one I grew up in. This sickens me. I served this country in 2 different military branches, writing a blank check on my life, willing to defend it with my very life. My philosophy will never change - I will surrender my life for the nation that the founding fathers intended. The conservatives have finally awakened but there's a LOT of work to do to restore our nation's greatness. We have to fight harder & smarter if we're to have any chance at stopping the current rapid descent of our nation. Roll up your sleeves people - let's get busy...

Once again.... a multiple "Like" is needed....
