Anyone running a Toyo R888 full time on rear? Have seen a few photos on forum but just curious how they do in wet?

They are terrible in cold and wet conditions. You could run them, but you would have to be super careful.

I ordered a new set for my track tire/wheel setup and will drive carefully to the events if it is cold or wet.

I have seen two crashed Slingshots with them installed. Maybe the tires and conditions had something to do with that....

Personally, I would say the G2 is a better all around tire for what you listed.

BUT, the Toyo does come in a lot of bigger sizes that the G2 doesn't have.

This will be a longer read, but will really show you how great the Slingshot community is and how great/caring some of our vendors are on here.

One of our fellow forum members @Oldfogey "proudly" damaged his motor a few months ago when racing his SS against a supercharged mustang. He walked all over that mustang, but his motor unfortunately was a dud and couldn't handle the awesomeness of the supercharger power at 4th gear redline.

When a couple of vendors heard about his issue, they raised their hands to help him get back on the road. @Turbosling - Henry at Alpha went out of his way to provide a replacement motor and worked with @Painter to get an amazing custom painted valve cover and coil pack cover made to pay tribute to Paul's service in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. @slingmods kindly donated a custom third brake decal, trim pieces, and an e-brake cover. AZ Kawasaki & Slingshot in Apache Junction, AZ donated a new clutch and worked on the machine several hours to install the custom parts, do all the recalls, and detailed the machine before the unveil. They also hosted an awesome party to surprise Paul this morning and almost all of the great people the in East Valley Slingshots group attended.

@Joshua Wesley Moore, the AZ Kawi &Slingshot service manager donated a ton of personal time on his days off to work with me in my 115 degree garage to get everything installed on Paul's machine so we could surprise him. Paul helped pull his motor, but had no idea that we were going to finish everything for him with donated items given by gracious people listed above.

Great things happen to great people and we were all very happy to help Paul get his beloved Slingshot back on the road!

Below are some videos and pictures of the experience...

If there are any events in the South West (CA, AZ, NV) I would love to be there - Heck I think there should be a Palm Springs Take Over :)

We will have something in AZ this fall. There are several turbo and supercharger machines you can ride in around here. Also a couple of people with intakes, full exhaust, and MEFI tunes.

I don't want to come across as a freaking know-it-all, but if you're going to retain the Polaris ecu (even with Bob's tune) the ecu sets a maximum speed setting at 160 mph. As Rabtech stated, there's no way the stock body could be stable enough or have enough power to overcome the massive wind resistance this has.Unless Bob gas been able to access that part of the ecu, it's going to stay that way. (Not sure even if he could, he would probably not want the liability to set that max speed any higher)

That speed is listed in the ECM, but it is under an odd parameter. There is still a debate on what it actually does. It could possibly be a setting limit on where the cruise cannot be set anymore. Cruise disables over 160...?

Or it is an actual speed limiter and the ones going over 180mph on the dyno weren't limited because only the rear was spinning.

It can be changed in the ECM, but there probably isn't a good reason to do so...

Looks like you all had fun! Track days are the best. I wish there were more people around AZ that liked to do them so I had more company. It is always more fun in a group.

Too bad @hrmiracle couldn't get some rubber down in that little grocery getter snake! ;) ha

If you guys are going to do this often, you would be amazed what dedicated track tires can do! It really changes the experience and makes the machine much faster and safer. Less cool schreeching sounds though....

I can probably track one down for you if you don't find anything.

I know a guy that might be stashing a couple of these magical nuts....

Just so everyone is on the same page, I'm not the annoying guy talking about the Slingshot being an unsafe batmobile...

The track video is mine, as I have quite a few posted on YouTube. If you click the one below, it will take you to the video and then you can get to my channel to see the others.

Poop. Yes, I am just talking about running the correct wheel and tire combos. Mainly just the big sidewall rear tire.

    Not so much poop.

Yes, you can easily switch rim/tire combos out fairly easy. But, you need a place to store 3 sets of wheels (at least rears) and the $$$ to do so. With decent street tires, you can hit a roadcourse track day and be pretty competitive and have a bunch of fun. Street tires at the dragstrip is a good way to spin halfway down the 1/4 and make a 14 second pass.

All racing is fun, but I am a firm believer that you get way better bang for your buck at track days. 4 sessions that are 20min a piece. OR 6 runs that are 14 seconds a piece. I think one is more appealing.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a drag racing fan too and enjoy any seat time I can get at the dragstrip. There is a real art to getting down the track quickly and consistently. It probably takes as much skill as being a good road course driver.

My point is, that the Slingshot is naturally a pretty dang good track vehicle. With some mods it can keep up with some very quick vehicles.

The Slingshot isn't a naturally talented drag vehicle. It's a limited traction vehicle with poor drag and a manual gearbox.

A Slingshot setup for a roadtrack translates well to the street. A Slingshot setup for drag looks like poop and probably doesn't drive that great.
