Okay... Blown engines and need for gauges?

I'm leaning towards supercharger because I'm a bit more careless revving, shifting, etc, and feel it's safer... Plus gauges not needed...

At 6psi, blowing an engine is not a concern. You're well within the safety margins in all aspects. In regards to gauges, if you want my honest opinion, you should be monitoring certain parameters in any forced induction application. Especially, if that application was not previously forced induction to begin with like our SSs. I run 2 gauges. An AEM water temp gauge because the idiot lights are the size of a pin head and I did not realize I had lost coolant out of a prototype part until I put my foot to the floor and the SS got really pissed off and went into limp mode. I looked down and the coolant temp light was flashing which I did not notice because it was high noon. I also run an AEM failsafe gauge which monitors boost and AFR. It also stores 2-3hrs worth of data logging. I also run my kit at 9psi so the nice thing about the failsafe is if my AFR gets to an unsafe limit, preset by me, while doing a pull it will cut boost.

@iNewton has a thread about installing gauges on the SS which is 2nd to none. It's what I used to install my failsafe. I did a couple things differently to work for me but he lays out all the wiring and where to tap into perfectly.

@jookyone also shared a template in another thread for setting up the screen on the AEM data logging software so you only see what is usable on the SS. I use that preset template for all my log analyzing.

As far as being careless revving, that's what the rev limiter is for. And so far in my experience, regardless of which route you go with forced induction, if you're still running the stock PCM and not a stand alone like the Haltech 1500, the SS tends to get a little pissed off when shifting over 7000RPMs.

The supercharger route is no more safe than the turbo route. But I'm also a turbo guy. I totally get why people like superchargers and they are really fun to drive. But these are just my personal opinions. At the end of the day, you should purchase whatever you will feel more comfortable with regardless if it is a kit from ZZP or another vendor.

Or any aftermarket exhaust for that matter. Mine is not a Welter but I'm not willing to scrap it ($850) for a turbo charger.

Welter Dual rear 2.5" exhaust here as well!

    SSREAPER

I'm sure we will look into it. I'm not going to tell you it's going to happen because I cannot guarantee that but I can guarantee that it will be discussed. Part of how we keep down consumer costs and ensure everything works as it should and all the parts are happy and play well together is by manufacturing our own parts and offer 100% complete kits. We are still a very small company of only 50 employees so just diving into the pool and buying one of each available cat back out there for the SS and coming up with a way to connect them to our turbo kit just isn't feasible from a business stand point at this time. Welter would likely be the first one we look at as that seems to be one of the more popular cat backs among the SS community. @maverick5990 If you've not yet rode in a turbo slingshot, you may change your mind about selling that exhaust once you do. ;-)

@Gnx1234 We manufacturer the majority of the kits here in house which keeps costs down so in turn we pass the savings on to the consumer. We have been doing that since we started doing business in 2000. Our mantra is "Go Fast, Not Broke." The turbos are private labeled made for us by a major turbo manufacturer. We tell them what we want and they make it. The turbos are ball bearing and can be cooled by both oil and water. The kit sets it up as oil only but there are accommodations to where you could add water cooling as well. If you decided to order a kit, you can ask us for fittings and we will include them at no charge. I run both on mine. They are similar to the Garrett GT series turbos. They are a little larger than a K04 turbo on a chevy cobalt.

I guess you could call this a base kit but there are no options at this time. We may offer options in the future but for now, the kit comes as advertised. As far as lag, there is almost none to be honest. In regards to tuning, that is included in the price of the kit. Install time is typically about 8hrs. Our shop rate is $100/hr so about $800. If you came for an install and wanted it dialed in on our dyno there would be an additional $250-$300. However, with the install, we will take it out on the street and verify the tune and make any adjustments if needed but it likely will not need any. We have spent a decent amount of time on this tune both on the dyno and data logging my 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile runs for fine tuning. If you have any other questions please let me know.

@Kyle D That was the exact response I was looking for and my fellow forum members deserve. I am not going to go into how some of us were taken advantage of but your reputation thus far is great and I hope it only gets better with us!! Again welcome to our home...make yourself comfortable and sell us your wares please!
You don't by any chance have a super charger setup do you?

    SSREAPER

Unfortunately no, we do not offer a supercharger. We may in the future but it is not on our current R&D radar.

Website showing it's "out of stock"!

@maverick5990 We have pulled it down while we build more kits. Since my posting last week, we have sold 6 kits and are taking on a distributor who is taking a few off our hands. We did not expect them to sell that quickly to be honest. But I would rather have transparency and have them "out of stock" then sell a bunch of kits and have a bunch of orders that I cannot fulfill because then I am just another one of the companies taking money and not delivering like we should be. We have already ramped up production and I should have some more kits in a few weeks and then the rest of the batch not too long after that.

You guys have been around for a couple of years doing ecotec stuff if I remember right. I have some friend from the Michigan area and they recommended that I check you guys out.

@Br4hm4 We have been in business since 2000. We started off in the 3800 market and own the market and have the world's fastest 3800 in a 1/4mi.

We then moved into the Ecotec market in 2005, which we now own, and have the highest horsepower Cobalt at 898whp that ran 9s in the 1/4mi
We do some parts in the Sonic/Cruze market, we own the highest whp Cadillac ATS 2.0T at 456whp ?type=3&theater and are doing a lot of stuff for the LTG platform which covers the ATS, Regal, and Camaro all with the 2.0T engine. And now, we are aiming to be the leader in performance parts for the SS market. We are coming in late but with all of the issues I have heard about with other kits and companies, I'm thinking that may not affect us badly.

    Hey @SSREAPER,

Thank you for the welcome. I apologize for the delayed response. It has been nothing short of hectic on this end ramping up parts for you guys and building a new site dedicated directly to the SS community.

Regarding customer service and communication, a little background on me, while I have always been into racing anything that can be made to go fast on the ground and water, the bulk of my background prior coming to ZZP has been in the service industry. I worked as a celebrity and VIP host in Miami and also as a PA for hire chartering private jets and yachts for high net worth individuals. I've also managed numerous night clubs and bars here in Michigan, Miami, and one for Akon in Dominican Republic for 5 years. With that said customer service and communication are strong skills of mine.

My goal is to try to become a trusted vendor here, a go to person for info, and to make a some friends along the way. My door is always open regardless if it is during business hours or not and if I have the ability to respond I will. Even if I do not have the answer, I will still respond and let you know that I do not have the answer but will get you an answer once I am back in the office.

So you are the proud owner of a Slingshot. You love it, it's personalized to your liking, you feel free in it, your hair blows in the wind if you still got it, all your problems melt away.....and so do you when those front cooling fans turn on but that's another thread all together, but it's missing something if it is still normally aspirated................REAL PUCKER YOUR BUTT HOLE POWER!!!! That's where ZZPerformance comes in! So I know what you're thinking, "But Kyle, turbo kits are EXPENSIVE!!!!" ;( And yes, they were......until we showed up. You wanna go fast? You wanna be a contender? You wanna take a shot at the title for fastest SS in the 1/2mi but don't wanna spend 10s of thousands to do it? WELL NOW YOU CAN!!!!!

Our turbo kit is reasonably priced at $2,994.99 and average results on 93 octane is 265whp. You won't find a complete bolt on turbo kit making this kind of power for less. I know what you're thinking, "These turbo kits are half the price as the other ones on the market, they probably won't hold up." I can tell you this, I have been running this kit for 3 years and I beat the ever living snot out of it every time I climb in. Because why not? Drive it like you stole it is what my dad used to tell me, which he regretted saying about 4 times with me growing up.

You have to push parts to the max to get results and see what needs to be improved. We have a process here, Problems = Solutions = Reliable Parts To Sell and we have been doing that since 2000 with all of the platforms we support. I know what you're thinking, "You seem to have a great product but nobody has turbo kits in stock ready to go. How long will I have to wait for you to make me one?" That's one of the best parts, we operate out of a 60,000sq ft building, that's 5,574sq meters for those of you residing in the metric system, which means we have a lot of storage and the ability to stock parts. Turbo kits are a part of that. Do we ever run out of parts? Yes, of course we do. Every company does from time to time. It's an unfortunate tragedy of selling parts faster than you can make them. But you won't be waiting 8 -10 weeks for a kit :/ and the kit will arrive complete. You won't have to do any work arounds waiting for the rest of your parts to come in. :S Depending on where you live, you could potentially be drifting, doing doughnuts, and big smokey burnouts shredding rear tires with no mercy within a week and a half including time for install  .......mental note, look for a tire sponsor and open up a secret bank account for tires just in case. ;)

Have I sparked your interest even a little bit? If so, you can check it out here Ecotec Parts Polaris Slingshot Turbo Kit - Polaris Slingshot You can also PM me here or email me directly at Kyle@zzperformance.com with any questions. We have a motto here at ZZP, Go fast, Not Broke and we can help you achieve that. #CatchMeIfYouCan

It's time for a little shameless self company promotion with good intent. I'll try to keep this series more Slingshot oriented but to start off, being a new vendor that most of you had probably never heard of until a few days ago, I wanted to kind of lay out where you can find info on us and if you have additional interests in any of the other platforms we specialize in, where you can see that as well.

How long is the wait time for turbo kit? Also how is the tune handled do we ship ecm to you or someone else? Is there a install doc we can download to see installation instructions?

We are currently making more BOVs which should be done here shortly. Normally this is a kit sitting on the shelf ready to go within 24hrs once your payment clears and the order passes through our fraud protection system. We use the same BOV in a lot of our kits and apparently we were selling them faster than we could get them made. For tuning, we will have you ship your ecm to Chris at CBM (Custom Built Motorsports) We made the tune using our dyno and SS, gave it to them, and they are handling all of the ecu flashing for us. Every kit comes with install instructions. However, if you would like to see what you are getting into prior to potential purchase, shoot me an email directly at Kyle@zzperformance.com and I can pull a copy off our server and email them to you.

@SlingDrop Stop in some time! I almost never see any other Slingshots when I'm out and about. I saw 1 on Division down by Martin as I was coming home from the drags 2 weeks ago but other than that it is a rare sighting.

@Neosolidus all good man, no offense taken at all. It's really hard to always correctly get someones tone via writing. If my response came across poorly, also not my intentions. I totally get that when you have guys that have been around for a while setting the records and someone with no presence comes out of nowhere it's odd. I'm hoping to have a good presence here on the forums and getting to know all of you better. As far as my setup, I still have the stock bottom end, head, cams, springs, valve train, drive train, and am running an off the shelf turbo kit that we make here at ZZPerformance. The off the shelf kit comes at 6psi which is getting most builds right to the 265whp mark. My setup is a little different. I have added a high/low boost switch and I leave the line on 4psi and then go to 9psi once I'm moving. I have however, as of Friday learned my 60' is about the same leaving the line at 9psi and half peddling the throttle. I've got a set of BC racing coil overs on there that we designed with BC. Those should be available late this summer As far as aero, it is all stock but that may or may not change by the time I get to Ocala. It's a work in progress and it takes time. I remember reading on another forum about @rabtech removing body panels and hood and not gaining very much. There's a couple combinations I want to try prior to Ocala. For wheels and tires, on the front, it is all stock. On the rear, I have added a JMS 18” drag wheel that’s not as light as I anticipated with a 305 Micky Thompson ET Street SS drag radial. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Happy to chat.

@Aqualime I'm sorry you had a bad experience with us being that we never like for that to happen and would be curious as to the details of what happened. If you want to discuss any of it please feel free to email me directly at kyle@zzperformance.com But to be honest, coming into a vendor thread and bashing the vendor in a in their area that they pay for isn't cool. No hard feelings, I'm just letting you know how I feel about it. And again, if you want to discuss any of it, my door and ears are open. I just ask that you please contact me directly.

@slolane Stop in some time if you're that close to us! Let's get you a turbo kit! ;-)

@Ross Thank you and I will definitely be keeping you guys updated.

@Ghost Good to see you here as well! I'm trying to become a vendor over where we initially met but have yet to get any responses. I'll keep posting over there as well but it will be limited as I am not a vendor there. But so far I am really liking this forum. The response has been great so far and @rabtech has been great to work with. I'm really looking forward to FL also to see what we can all accomplish under the same conditions.

@DKF Texas We will be releasing the rear radiator mod soon. This is honestly one of my favorite mods we have. I got so tired of roasting in the cockpit and being blasted relentlessly by hot air every time the fans kicked on. This solves that issue. The fans kick on at 180*-185* and pulls all that hot air out of the back of the SS so the fans in the front never turn on. The only downside is you are limited to a 305 in the rear. But so far, I am doing ok on the 305. We are also looking to revise it in the future so you can run any size tire you want on the rear but that is still in the R&D phase.

@kev and @Neosolidus This is true. On Tuesday July 3rd, I went to the Battle Creek MI Speed Fest event and ran my slingshot to 131.12mph in the 1/2mi. Prior to that, @StickerDick held the record at 130.62mph. Mark and I have already spoken on FB and he congratulated me on my accomplishment like a true gentleman.

So far everyone I have encountered here on the forums and FB pages has been great from just general chatting and answering questions that I had.

I will be seeing all of you in Ocala FL for the WannaGoFast 1/2mi event. The reality is, @StickerDick and @rabtech are going to be setting the bar in Ocala and they will set it high. They are no doubt going to be the guys everyone will need to try to beat and it’s not going to be remotely easy. Although, I will give it my best shot in the name of good fun and friendly competition.

Having "the fastest slingshot in the 1/2mi" title is cool, but at the end of the day, for me, this is about friendly competition, having fun, and making new friends along the way regardless if I am the fastest or not. I am REALLY looking forward to just meeting everyone I've seen on the forums and FB pages in FL to put faces with names.

Oh, I have also since beat my last time in the 1/4mi which was previously 12.67 @107mph. I went last night and ran 12.26 @ 114.77mph. I have attached my time slip below. I had some belt slippage issues on that run and firmly believe that it COULD have been a high 11s run. I'm shooting for the current record of 11.2 @ 126mph and am hoping to break that by the end of the season but shaving off an entire second is not going to be easy especially still being on the stock bottom end.

As far as my setup, I still have the stock bottom end, head, cams, springs, valve train, drive train, and am running an off the shelf turbo kit that we make here at ZZPerformance. As far as aero, it is all stock but that may or may not change by the time I get to Ocala. It's a work in progress and it takes time. For wheels and tires, on the front, it is all stock. On the rear, I have added a JMS 18” drag wheel that’s not as light as I anticipated with a 305 Micky Thompson ET Street SS drag radial.

If anyone has any additional questions, I am happy to answer them. Thank you for welcoming me here in the forums and I look forward to meeting anyone who goes to Ocala in October.
