Well I've given up for now. Nothing I tried worked, none of the many, many places I called will do it. I have a really good painter in the area but I simply am not qualified to disassembled by myself even though I'm good with tools. I found a Indian dealer about 75 minutes from me who said they would do it, but then I found out they planned to ship it to their sister dealer 2 hours away for them to do it.

Eh, I'm done for now. I bought some trim kits off of slingmods and will put them on to dress her up a little. I'm getting an air ride and new shoes, so that should be enough to make it unique around here.

I just got this picture yesterday from the couple I bought it from. Should be here in a week!

Whoa! I want to see that one in person. What a beaut!

I got mine painted by a very reputable local body shop in Arkansas. Disassembly/Assembly and painting in GM Krypton Green cost me $1875. They exceeded my expectations. Just food for thought. Now that he’s done one, he said he would charge 2K for others.

Wow... The quotes up here so far are $6,000 - $8,000. I love that green! Did they paint the outside rough plastic parts too, like the fenders?

Hi @studiopeg you will need a particular rim offset to accomodate custom wheels and larger tires.yes the 20's and 22's are a common item.you can check out my website store by clicking on my web address below my signature. If you search for tires and rims, or wheel sets, you will see the new product line available form Twist Dynamics which specify the rim offsets you will need for the wider rear tires.

Not interested in Twist dynamics. I already have my rims picked out. Just looking for information here.

I’m looking to add some custom wheels to my 2017 SLR. I did search the forum, and found a few posts saying others were running 20 up front and 22 in the back.

Is this the most common configuration when you go to nice custom wheels?

What’s some of the things I will have to know when doing this?

    Thanks!,

Believe it or not, someone just made a post this morning of their orange madness SLR with the badges removed. Said it was very easy using fishing line. I really like the cleaner look. I think that's what I am going to do, in addition to getting the plastic parts painted. That should do it!

As long as this thread is talking about sound mods... I bought the rear hump speaker pods and two 6.5" Kicker LED Marine speakers. Am I going to need anything else - an amp? Or can these speakers be tied in to what is already there with nothing else needed? Thanks....

I have been looking into getting it painted for a long time, even long before I bought it. I knew exactly what I wanted. Below left is how it is now. On the right is h ow I wanted it. A lot cleaner.

I think I am going to give up on the idea. There's just no one anywhere around that either can or wants to take this on. One guy did paint one - sent me pictures - and said he never wants to do another one. Too time consuming, too costly he said.

I thought about this all yesterday and all last night. I like the idea of getting the decals off, if they would come off. That's one option.

The other thing I have decided might be a lot easier and still make it look nice is having the outside plastic parts painted, instead of an entire paint job. Those side panels, front fenders, and front splitter. Any pictures you see of those painted makes a world of difference.

I am going to ask the Polaris dealer up the street from me if they would be willing to take those parts off for me. Then I'll get the Orange Madness paint code and have a local painter I trust sand and paint them. That might be the way to go.

Appreciate the story about your Dad. I knew my dad served in the last year or so of WWII, but it wasn't until his funeral service that I found out he had been the moving force in getting the VFW chapter going in Lewisburg, WV.
I was an Instructor at the Intelligence School at Ft. Devens in the late 1970s and still have fond memories of Kimball Farms, although at the time I only remember heaping servings of fresh ice cream! The Warrant Officer I worked for would station each of us in different lines while he determined which server was giving the largest portions!

That's awesome about your dad. So many veterans are so humble about what they did and never talk about it, and you find out these things later. Makes ya proud.

Kimballs... nothing has changed. The portions are monstrous. I get a kiddie cup and it's huge. Even when I was a teen and ice cream was all we ate after school, I never ordered a Kimball Special. I don't know how anyone can finish one of those!

The only major "mod" I want to do when my 2017 Orange Madness SLR arrives is to paint it. I don't care for the busyness of it - don't know if it's decals or what on there, but I would like to change it.

I was going to have someone out in Indiana do it, but having found out what shipping would cost, that's out.

I have had NO luck anywhere in Massachusetts or New Hampshire finding someone *qualified* to paint it. No one wants responsibility for the disassembly/assembly, and most motorcycle painters have no experience with a Slingshot.

I ask the local Polaris dealer if they would be interested in the assembly part of it, and they said no.

    This is a real disappointment.

Anyone had any luck painting theirs?

    >>I told her that we needed to learn to have fun again.

Yep that's it. I had forgotten too. It's only been 6 weeks since dad passed and it took me 3 full weeks just to learn to sit down and relax after coming home from work. The first 3 weeks I could not sit - always that feeling of do-do-do, go-go-go, a robotic kind of thing a caretaker becomes.

I went up to the gun range and shot for an afternoon 2 weeks after he passed. I felt guilty for having fun. Like you said, it felt weird. But it's just that I haven't been able to do anything for myself for so long that it was a foreign feeling. You know that feeling. But I know dad is smiling down on me, and will be riding shot gun in the slingshot :)
