Putting holes in someone does no good if those holes doesn't stop them from shooting you or a loved one while they are still able. Sure a shot to the brain with a 22 LR will do the job but are you capable of making that shot when the guy pulls a knife of a gun on you. I subject you do a little more research before you feel protected by that 22 LR even the 22 mag is questionable. I have many of each and am a dam good shot with them. I can take the buttons off your shirt at self defense range but sure as heck wouldn't carry one if my life might depend on it. I don't feel real comfortable carrying my S&W 380 Bodyguard but there are times it is my only carry gun that will fit in my gym shorts pocket. The 38 Special used to be what law enforcement carried then they seen the need to move up to better calibers when they came came available. The object to to neutralize the threat and as quick as possible. You also don't want to over pernitrate as you are responsible for killing those good people standing behind the bad guy. Other wise I would be carrying my 44 Mag. Another good thing to remember just be cause it was a good shoot and you are not being charged you maybe going to civil court and the bad guys family my want to live in your house. I could say a lot more about this subject as I have done a lot of research into carrying for self defense and have the test equipment to test different calibers and loads. I load and shoot 9 different calibers and know a little bit but probably said enough. I just don't want to see one of my brothers or sisters in this Slingshot family to die because they though they had enough gun. One last thing go and shoot that thing often.

it is a very interesting subject - - the capability of a gun to kill vs using it for self defense can be very different things

It is rather well known that many professional killers will use a 22 with a suppressor and they kill very efficiently with one or two shots to the head - - obviously this tells you that 22 can be very deadly

now having said this does not mean the 22 is necessary a good choice for self defense where you might need stop a very angry person, on speed or pcp who is very intent on killing - - here that same deadly 22 might just make the bad guy even madder and he certainly is not going to be sitting still waiting for you to do a double tap to his skull

just making holes that were not there before could actually make a person more dangerous than they already were - - and the fact they might bleed out and die 10 - 20 minutes later won't really matter much.

frankly if I wanted a tiny pocket gun for self defense I think I would get one of the little 2 shot 45 caliber derringers -

I will give that a try I just wish Polaris would provide more info about it. Going to look at the users manual again to see if I missed something. Thanks @Edward Neal

no problem - - like I said the Volvo is my only experience using CarPlay - - just seemed to me that if a rather advanced Volvo would require the wired connection then Polaris might also require it

Also when running apps and all of the other things CarPlay can do I would think it would kill battery life of the phone if not using a USB cable to keep it charged

So, a question. On the subject of guns in courthouses i have always been aware that in Federal courthouses it is universally against the law no matter where you are, but I have also been under the impression that State, County and other “lower” courthouses are subject to the laws in their jurisdiction and that if that jurisdiction says you can carry then you can - again I’m in California so so not something that would ever happen here, but what about better States? Are there places that allow you to carry in the local non federal courthouses?

Today I would like to get Apple CarPlay working on my 2020 R. I am just not having any luck. I bought the Bluetooth transmitter that was recommended on another forum but I must be missing a step some where.

I only have Apple CarPlay on one car, My wife's 2020 Volvo, and in that vehicle CarPlay required a wired connection with a USB cable - With bluetooth the phone will link to the cars system and you can make and take calls through the cars sound system, but if we want CarPlay and the apps and maps from the phone to be available on the cars screen the direct connection is necessary - Apple even talks about the fact that there are two ways for CarPlay to work - Wired and Wireless and not all vehicles support connecting with bluetooth

anyway I know nothing about the newer slingshots or what type of CarPlay they support - Just wanted to point out that some vehicles do not support wireless CarPlay - - You may want to plug in with ta USB cable - if its anything like our car it will go directly into setting up the connection

Actually its kind of interesting - with my wife's Volvo when I get in my phone automatically links with bluetooth for phone functions - if I then plug it in with the cord I get a message on the screen telling me that a phone is already connected do I want to disconnect it and use CarPlay - - -

anyway Like I said I know nothing about CarPlay in the Slingshot of if it needs the cable or not - - just thought it might be worth trying

personally I don't consider the slingshot to be the kind of vehicle designed for high quality audio - - no matter how great the system might be or how incredibly awesome it might sound in the parking lot as soon as I start riding the road noise, and wind noise and exhaust noise and all of the other noise coming from everything else around me is going to totally consume the quality and clarity of my high end system - - for me I see no point in even attempting to improve the stock system in my SL - - I can hear it pretty good at stoplights and when I an cruising at 60 or better I don't even care that I can hardly make out what song is playing

we all have different taste and even though I am 100% sure I could make the system better I don't care enough to bother

If I am going to spend $100's of dollars on a sound system for when I am of the road I will put that system in an enclosed vehicle where I can actually here what the money paid for

and as a side note, I see these show slingshots with speakers all over the outside designed to impress people standing around at shows and I must admit I laugh - - I mean I guess if that's what you are into go for it, but for me its kind of like those people back in the 70's that walked around with some huge boombox on their shoulder - - clearly thinking that everyone else wants to hear the crap they are plying and never actually realizing that 99% of the rest of us wish they would just turn the damn thing down so we can here our own music 8o

To me just because a vehicle has three wheels does not mean it is similar to or competition to the Slingshot. To me the Slingshot is a fully open experience that is very comparable to the experience of a motorcycle - on the other hand three wheeled vehicle that are enclosed with windows and a roof - well that is just a three wheeled car - just another cage

this is no doubt an interesting vehicle and I really hope they succeed and make it to market, but no matter what happens it will never be something I place in the same class as my Slingshot - - no more than I would classify all 4 wheeled vehicles in the same class - - the difference far out weigh the similarity created by having the same number of wheels

Has anybody had the opportunity to comparing the stock double bubble windshields to the Madstad double bubble system?

    Bill

I would love to, but the price of the Madstad's is way too much - I only paid $80 for my OEM double bubble kit brand new in the Polaris box

but If anything ever happen that would force me to replace my oem bubbles I would probably go with the madstads before paying what Polaris is asking these days

So did you get your donut or not Edward Neal ?

    confused-squared

not yet - - I get e-mails form KrispyKream every day telling me the specials (got on their mailing list last year when we ordered online) and we are aware of the offer of a free doughnut if we show are cards, but its a bit of a drive for just 2 doughnuts and we don't really "need" to bring a dozen home

Got an e-mail this mornings saying if we buy 1 dozen we can get a second dozen for a1 dollar - - - we really don't need to bring 2 dozen home

Actually before I switched to the double bubbles I rode for a week with no windshield. Wanted to see the difference between the blade, the double bubbles and none at all. When I did install the doubles they made a big difference over none at all. Not as much as the blade but still much better than none at all

The phones made for the old Ma Bell nationwide system were typically made to last just about forever, unlike the cheap crap introduced after the Bell system breakup. Modern cell phones are mainly limited with how many times the battery can be recharged before servicing replacement is needed or the OS becomes too old to handle newer apps and the only option is usually buying a new phone with a current OS.

yes, I remember back in my youth the phone was built like a tank and it was actually the property of the phone company

Not to bash ANY manufacturers product, but I had one major issue with the Gen II PRP seats. I ordered them as the two tone black and Red, BUT the Black center panels were ordered as the velour (or whatever they called it). While they looked great, felt great and were comfortable, they soaked up the water like a sponge. Leave it outside a restaurant while you have lunch, and come back during the typical Florida afternoon shower, and be prepared to get wet to no end. I had to remove the foam when I returned home more than once, squeezes out about a pint of water each it took a couple days to dry out. Just hate to have someone make the same mistake. But if you live in Sunny California where it doesn't rain, it won't be an issue

yep one thing I love about my stock 2016 sl rubber Star Trek style seats - - they do not soak up any water, even after a good downpour just wipe them off and jump on in, and if starts raining when I am moving any rain that does get down to the seat is channeled under my behind down the trough down the center of the seat

I have a hard time getting those places to make my meal as hot as I would like. There was a place down in a basement in San Antonio that made Szechuan Chicken so hot it would put sweat on your brow. I loved it.

I have to agree - being a white boy when I say I want extra hot they usually look at wife and ask her if I know what I am asking for - seems they assume that being a Filipino she will understand better than I do - - - she just looks at them and tell them yes he knows and he likes it hot.

Now having said this I do find that in the last year or so I have tended to cut back a bit on the heat - - still love it really hot, but no longer to the point where the next day its burning on the way out. even so I still like breaking a good sweat

Didn't take the Sling anywhere today, but treated ourselves to a long overdue lunch at P.F. Chang's in Tucson...

We have a P.F. Changs, but its a bit down valley, not far at all, but we have many many other options right in downtown Palm Springs - - so many options that many times we just park and then walk until we see a place that calls out to us. lately that often seems to be Thai Smile - - - Spicy Thai Fried Rice with beef - - - -- - - now I'm getting hungry

Today, I removed the "UAS Under-the-Dash" subwoofer box and added it to my list of "mods & goodies" I wouldn't do again. It was tuned and performed the way it was designed to, but only sounded good inside my garage. In fact, that's the only place I could hear it. It's just not all it's cracked up to be while you're out driving around and certainly NOT the solution if you desire earth-shattering base tones in your tunes. So, I'll find another use for the speakers and probably put the enclosure up for grabs in the marketplace. It's only my opinion, but I hope this helps anyone that was contemplating buying one of these things.

thank you - this is the perfect kind of post for this thread - - could save a fellow slingshot owner money and grief

interesting that you raised the seats - - If I could figure out an easy way I would love to try lowering my seats - - I figure getting my fat ass as low as possible in the slingshot could only serve to improve the overall cornering ability

    Yes. Have had that happen...

its all just white hate - - - - yes I know people will bash me and call me racist for saying this, but to me it seems to be in vogue to find any reason to be critical , and yes hateful, to people who are normal straight white people

Even yesterday I saw some opinion piece that was trying to say that everything that is wrong with this country was because it was founded as a white country - - - - - seriously?? - - its a fact this country was founded by white people - - what did they expect? were they supposed to import an equal number or racially diverse people so that they could be sure the new nation would not be too white?? and except for an incredibly small percentage of people who were brought here against their will virtually every non white person who is now here is here because some one some where down the line thought this was a better place than their country of origin - - so - you or your grandpa run away from wherever you are from to come here to the United States because it offers a "better Life" and then what do you do?? - - you start bitching that the U.S. is "too white? - - - - to be honest I truly believe that 99% of immigrants love this country and really with the exception of a few racist ass holes have no problem with the "whiteness" of this country - - I think the big problem is a bunch of "woke" white pansy ass liberals who think in makes them better than everyone else if they push an anti white agenda and try to convince minorities that every ill in the world that ever happened to them was because of racist white people - - - - all just an attempt for control and power and to make the super sensitive woke idiots think they have a reason to feel good about their worthless lives

My family is incredibly diverse - Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders all good hard working people that contribute to the world around them- - seriously as a white boy I am the minority in my own family and we all get along just fine and no one ever even worries about what color a person is or where they are from - - if you are a good caring person - we love you and if you are an asshole - it won't matter what color you are - - you suck and being white or brown or black will never change that

Sorry - - - just needed to vent - - getting very tired of being told that because I am a straight white man that I must be directly related to the devil and the root cause of everything wrong in some lazy ass Pansys life - F off and get a job!!!!

As JFK so aptly put it - - "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask why you can do for your country"

    Rant over =O

I was born in 46 and we didn't have dial phones I guess the farm land of Iowa was behind.

I was going to say that where a person grew up probably had an impact on when such things as party lines were fazed out - - bigger metropolitan areas that had to deal with larger numbers of people probably moved away from party lines sooner than small rural areas where the number of phone users was much smaller.. I was born in 1954, but I also grew up first in the Bay Area and then the suburbs of Los Angeles - as such by the time I was aware of how the phone worked the party lines were no longer in that area

I do remember when people used location names instead of numbers - - we were Hillcrest 78259 - - which was 447-8259 - - that would have been around 1960 - - back then with an area code and the Hillcrest part you knew exactly what area you were calling - - these days with cell phones area codes don't even guarantee the person is actually in that area

I find it very funny to read someone say that any kind of cell phone is "old school" - - to me any cell phone is new technology to me a "old School" would be rotary dial phone on land line - ya know one of those black bakelite things that weight enough to use for self defence

yea I know you all were joking, but it reminded me of short the percentage of my life has been where cell phones are the norm - - - - some people these days think its odd that my wife and I sill have a land line, but to us it would just be wrong not to have it

anyway just something to ponder on your next ride
