From another thread a day ago (in case anyone didn't see it):

Hey, this is as good a time as any for an announcement (& no, this is NOT an April Fools joke). Starting today, I’m going to be busier than hell for the next few months & just don’t feel I will have the time to keep up with the forum. @pricejh61 is going to be flying down late April or May to buy my Slingshot so I’ll be a non-owner anyways. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here & wish all of you the very best! You’re a great group of people - actually, the very best! Thanks for putting up with my sick, twisted humor over the years. I’ve made many lifelong friends here. Continue to take care of each other. This will be my last post on the forum & then permanently logging off.

    Respectfully,

    Larry

Thanks, I considered a wire-tap but prefer to use a connector. I may have to open the connection when servicing the Slingshot (to remove panels). Also, wire-taps are prone to fail due to vibration and the moisture in that exposed location.

If I can't find the right connector then I'll probably end up cutting the OEM ones off and replace them with my own. But finding that connector may help others in future who want to tap power off the license plate light or replace the plate holder with an aftermarket one.

I am assuming since you used that example that "electrical connection" doesn't make one. You might give them a call and let them know of the need. They make tons of stuff! I bought stuff from them back in 03' when I was customizing my wife's first bike.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've left them a request but I don't think they make the connector. And shipping from the US to Canada usually costs far more than it's worth for a couple of small parts.

If I can identify the parts then I may be able to find a local source or at least one somewhere in Canada.

I want to tap into the power to the license plate light to add a single 12v LED (I've tested the new light there and it works).

I'd like to buy a pair of the electrical connectors to make a splitter (rather than cut into the wires). Does anyone know the make/model or a source for the connector?

    Excuse the dirt...

Want to make something like the splitter in the middle, below.

As I have a Canadian SS (2016), it has a factory provided anti-theft system.

It's described in the User Manual (all versions I think) around page 40 give or take depending on the year. I can't recommend it. I used the system for a little while but ended up disabling it.

It's a pain to enter a 4 digit code using only the Mode button (short presses and long presses to scroll through digits and positions; miss by one and start over). I tried using the simplest code possible (changing only 1 digit) and even that was too time-consuming if you plan to use it regularly.

The process is similar to setting the clock on the Slingshot, but imagine doing that every time you want to start the car. :cursing:

If I told you .. you wouldn’t believe me. But just be prepared for unbelievable news and actions. Gather Non parishable food and water for a month to be safe. Lock and load
If I’m wrong I’ll admit it ... if I’m right will you?

Week of March 11 is OVER.

Bigdog, did I miss your admission that this was all BS?

Instead you just start up some new sh*t without a word about last week?

NExt Week.... fasten your seat belts....MAGA....

you don’t know how true that will turn out to be.....you’ll see dead men/women walking...
Sheep will be awakened....around the world...

There are 52 weeks in a year but I don't think we need 52 new/different predictions of doom each week. Just stop.

@rabtech, could this thread at least be moved to the nonsense area of the forum? It has nothing to do with Slingshots anymore. Thanks.

I've seen some "quirks" that I'll pass along. (2016.5 SL, bought new, owned for 1 year and now at 15,000 miles)

    • Twice in one day the clutch pedal/friction point dropped almost to the floor instead of being at the top where it normally is. Fixed by just pulling the clutch pedal back up. Never happened again. Probably air in the system.
    • For about a week my brakes were feeling soft and spongy. Fixed it by doing a couple of (safe) hard stops that engaged the ABS. Again probably air in the system (I'll get it purged at the next service).
    • Several times the EPS (Electric Power Steering) doesn't work when starting the engine. This not the normal disabling after sitting idle with ignition on. But turning the ignition off/on a couple of times has fixed it each time.
    • A few times the turn signal wouldn't self-cancel. Makes a clicking sound when turning the wheel. Fixed by toggling the signals left and right and back again.
    • Sometimes the radio doesn't start up properly or is locked up when the car starts. Turning the ignition off/on fixed it each time.
    • One day the console screen was full of distortion/noise (although the backup camera video was still clear). Turning off/on did not fix it. But it worked fine the next day and since then. Probably moisture.
    • Turning the ignition from the Accessory position to Start/On usually generates an undocumented check-engine code (0520230-31). Clears by turning the ignition off/on.
    • Often the drive belt is really noisy when I first start driving, especially if it is cold or wet, and especially at lower speeds. Fixes itself after a few miles.
    • I scrape the front chin spoiler more often than I'd like (on steep driveways, ramps etc). Wish it were just 1 inch higher... clearance on the rest of the body is fine.

I'm not looking for any explanations of these... they were all just annoyances that could surprise someone if they're used to a more reliable car. But they pretty much fixed themselves. Good thing because the dealer is 3 hours away and I wouldn't want to drive there every time.

But I wouldn't trade my Slingshot in for any other vehicle. Soooo fun!

Oh yeah... I'm also using up rear tires more quickly than I expected. :00007555:

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I do turn off traction control most of the time (a guy needs to have SOME fun), but I always leave the stability control enabled on the Slingshot.

    Quote

the Steering Angle sensor ... is used in conjunction with other ESP inputs (wheel speed, gradient and yaw rate) to determine vehicle stability. The hydraulic modulator is activated during stability control events to control individual wheelspeed and braking needs to correct vehicle attitude.

For the record, I've never had the ESP light flash at me yet (indicating it had to save me). But if the time does come when the system thinks it can keep all 3 wheels on the ground or keep me from spinning out by applying braking to only one wheel (something I can't do in an emergency) then I'm going to be grateful that it intervened.

I absolutely hate ABS, Traction control and Stability control... maybe because I was taught/learned the physics of vehicle control
    ...
These systems only help those who are either not taught the physics, or those who are not able to apply what they learn and put it into practice...

Question: I see you are pretty confident in your driving skills. But can you apply braking to just one front wheel at a time? or proportional braking to the front/rear? do you react instantaneously? Because I believe the artificial systems can do that for stability control, and I can't see you being able to replicate that on your own no matter how good your driving skills are.
    :whistling:

Second question: How much of the original Slingshot is going to remain when your project is done? Or are you not starting with a Slingshot at all?
