Is it April already?

I don't want an automatic for myself, but I'm all for giving people the choice. It will only make Slingshots more popular.

I'm probably grasping at straws here but have you topped off your alternator with electricity lately? Almost everyone remembers to put gas in their tank and check their brake and clutch fluid reservoirs. But the alternator is often overlooked. You don't need the Polaris electricity as they would have you believe. Get a can of any brand electricity from your local auto parts store - make sure to get the 12 volt - and fill your alternator to the fill line.
This has been a public service announcement.
And the dealer used to ding SlingLow a LOT of money for that service before he figured out how to do it himself!

Can you buy in the U.S. and install the camera before registering in Canada?
Yes, I believe that would be an option. It would require some kind of inspection and approval before being registered.
I found this one definition of a motorcycle in Canada
As in the US, each state/province has their own regulations and may treat the SlingShot differently (eg. as a car or autocycle or motorcycle) and there is quite a variation. But this new federal law prevents the Model S from being imported/sold in Canada in the first place, so the provincial regulations are irrelevant.

I asked my local Canadian dealer why the 2019 base Model S isn't available in Canada, because it was available in previous years. His answer surprised me. He said it's because backup cameras are required and the Model S has no backup camera (no entertainment system = no screen).
I've done a little digging and a backup camera law also came into effect in the US at the same time (the Canadians pretty much copy the US to match a lot of the regulations across the border).
So why is the Model S still available in the US and not in Canada?
I believe it's because the federal government in Canada classifies the SlingShot as a "three wheel vehicle (TWV)" and a backup camera is now mandatory on all vehicles built after May 1 2018 weighing under 10,000 pounds.
In the US I believe the federal government still classifies the SlingShot as a motorcycle, so it escapes the law.
It's pretty frustrating to be denied the choice in Canada.

Take it to a slingshot dealer? They may replace parts instead of trying to repair them, but if it's covered by your insurance then why not?

Out of curiosity, how many here has actually realized an angle drive failure and what were the circumstances??
My 2016.5 failed around 20,000 miles. Pinion gear punched a hole right through the angle drive case. First sign of trouble was a bit of clunking sound when coasting in neutral but sounded fine otherwise. Tried to drive it to the dealer for them to listen to it but it failed hard after about 100 miles (when I was half way there). They had fixed an oil leak from my angle drive about 2000 miles before that, so it could be related. Replaced under warranty.

I just downloaded manual for 2018 off Polaris site and it has a "R" in 500 mile box for the angle drive. That's what I was questioning. They must have added it to the newer manual.
Yep, I just checked. I was looking at a 2018 "r01" manual and the one posted on the Polaris site now is "r02". So they made a change. Interesting.
They also changed the oil weight from SAE 80W-90 in "r01" to Fully Synthetic 75W-140 in "r02".

I just checked the 2018 owners manual and it says first change is at 500 mile. Did they change this for a reason. I did my 500 mile myself on my 2018 and thought it said 2500 miles. Can't remember where I saw that. I got 1200 miles on it so I guess I need to go ahead and change it. Already bought the Royal Purple.
Mike, the online version of the 2018 owners manual still says 50,000 miles. Where are you reading this? Picture?

Part III - the Badlands National ParkA quick stop to watch the sun rise over some of the small peaks
Calendar shot!! -
This was all caused by an mistake in clicking the dislike button for the like button.
Actually, it was all caused by you deciding to create a thread about a single dislike.

Then a thunderstorm from Hell showed up just as we entered Calgary, a city of 3 million I was told, during rush hour, and we instantly had 2 or 3 inches of water on the road and got pelted with rain and hail in bumper to bumper traffic.
Hail in Calgary you say? Look at the hail you would have run into if you went through there yesterday!Calgary weather: Calgarians show off hail as thunderstorms hit area | Calgary Herald

The Polaris site has been updated with information about the 2019 models.
Slingshot : Open-air Roadster - 3 Wheel Motorcycle | Polaris
(so far I'm not seeing anything to get excited about)
And for some reason Canadians don't have an option to buy the base 'S' model anymore.

@rabtech, I noticed your clock is flashing 12:00
Let me know if you need some help with that. I've fixed my parent's VCR clock so I have experience.

Another example of fake reviews just to get traffic. Try to ignore those sites, don't feed them.

If you have any L.E.D.'s that come on when the switch is on that could be adding to the problem. Some of them have been proven to cause interference even on good system much less ours which is weak to start with.
No aftermarket LED or electronics on mine, everything is stock (2016.5 SL red). -
I don't have the 2018 Ride Command, I have the older stock radio, so this may not apply.
But FM reception isn't bad when the key is in the Accessories position. It gets much worse just turning the key to the On position (without even starting the engine).
I think that indicates the antenna is not the problem, it's actually some kind of interference issue.

Catastrophic mirror vibration!
- My mirrors vibrated quite a bit until I put a new rear tire on. Turns out it was just tire imbalance.

FYI for those who didn't notice, there's also a video by the same guy, linked in the article:

OK, this thread isn't the best example but I'll take this opportunity anyway.
There's a place for politics here. But Slingshot areas of the forum don't really have anything to do with politics (other than laws and regulations directly related to Slingshots).
The people who insist on bringing politics into unrelated topics are risking driving away Slingshot owners like myself who just want to participate in our hobby and who are tired of topics somehow veering into the political arena. If I went to a presentation about Slingshots, I'd walk out if the topic changed to politics part way through. Threads also have a topic, often something that I'm interested in. I'm glad you have strong political beliefs, but please don't bring your politics into a thread about the Slingshot. Save your opinions for the appropriate areas of this forum out of courtesy for those of us who don't share your enthusiasm or perhaps hold a different view.
I have some experience with this since I'm a moderator on a forum for a particular hobby. Our hobby brings us together from all parts of the world and all walks of life. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet new people that we wouldn't normally meet.
We ask the users to refrain from politics, religion and other sensitive topics because it needlessly alienates people who otherwise enjoy a common interest in our hobby. We tell them there are LOTS of other forums on the Internet that specialize in those particular topics if that is also one of their areas of interest, but that this forum is about our shared hobby. That policy actually works out very well for us.
@rabtech clearly has a different approach (his forum, his rules), but it would be nice to at least keep the politics confined to an appropriate area so that we can choose to avoid it. Thank you.
