Logging in here for the first time (coming over from slingshotforums) and ironically, this is the first thread that caught my eye. Why? Because I just trashed my SL a few weeks ago (5/3/16) due to hydroplaning! Whoo-hoo! I'm a statistic!
First, yes, the Mrs. and I are (relatively) ok. We walked away without needing an ambulance or any triage, so I count that a win. She sprained her thumb and the seatbelt inflicted some heavy bruises on her chest and waist. Somehow, I got a hairline fracture in one metatarsal (right foot, about an inch behind my 4th toe) and the seatbelt bruised the the edge of my rib cage, near my sternum, but no visible bruises. Bottom-line: waaaay lucky; 12 inches to either side of center on the SS and it would have been disaster for one, if not both, of us.
Second, yes, we will be back on the road as soon as we get a new SS. With any luck, maybe as early as this weekend!
So... we lost traction doing a little under 60 m/hr on a straight stretch of I-70, just outside of Frederick, MD. Stock tires, rain building up on the road, 11PM, dark as a raccoon's ass, and almost nobody else on the road. Could I have picked any worse a scenario? I had already hit a couple small puddles that were enough to suggest I slow down and seek a port. As I was bleeding off speed (light touch on the throttle; coasting down vs. engine braking), planning to plod along the slow lane to the nearest exit and only shelter (2 miles away). A couple seconds later, we twisted 90 to the right and we're watching trees zip by like ducks in a shooting gallery. After 3 or 4 trees we twist back to the left and the SS painted its target with the center beams. I couldn't have aimed with that kind of accuracy if I tried. Nothing to do but watch. Oh, I forgot the mention that I was also pulling a small trailer containing a couple of suitcases (Gross wt. about 200-300 lbs.). So, yes, I could have chosen a worse scenario than the one above, and did so. D'oh! In retrospect, it was probably a nudge from the trailer shifting forward on the hitch ball as the front tires hit resistance from a puddle, which caused the backend to swing out. It may also have been the trailer that kept as from spinning any further than 90 degrees (jack-knife) and what yanked us back around to line us up with the tree. I didn't feel a nudge or a yank; just a quick twist, hold, twist back, then straight as an arrow, up the bank to the tree. Tracks in the grass confirmed that there was almost no arc in our line of travel. Too fast to even think about counter steering.
Other details: We were on our way back from vacation in TN and had been driving all afternoon in the rain, from Roanoke all the way up 81 to Hagerstown. Moderate traffic, average speed was 75, traction felt fine. The weather was wearing us out, so we stopped around 7pm at my mom's place in Hagerstown to rest/relax for a few hours. A little after 10pm, we struck out on the final leg of the trip home in very light rain, crossing the mountains east toward Frederick with no issues at 65-70 m/hr, in light traffic. At this point, I'm sure there's a bunch of you thinking, "that boy is either nuts or stupid." In hindsight, I would have to agree with you. I admit, I was lulled into forgetting how light the SS is and (now) realize that it was probably a fair amount of luck that I even made it over the first ridge. There's probably even some of you that think it was a miracle I made it up 81 to Hagerstown and you might be right.
Anyway, I lived; I learned; can't ask for much more than that. Hopefully, somebody will learn from it too. When it rains, slow down and be careful. When it pours, get off the road. Crawl along the shoulder with hazards on if you have to, but get off the road as soon as you can. Avoid stopping on the shoulder unless absolutely necessary; if somebody else loses control, you and your SS make a poor guard rail. That's my two cents. Here's some pics for you lookey-loos.
Repair estimate: about $20k. Most expensive item: replacement frame. Most surprising item: crankshaft. We hit that tree HARD. Shoved the engine backward about an inch. tilted upward slightly. Item that still worked but shouldn't have: center lights. They were shoved back behind the kink in the center of the hood and buried under wreckage, but when I turned the ignition I could see their glow through the crevices of the crumpled mess.

I did lol....It wasn't all that bad. It was okay off the line and it had decent passing power on the highway. Turbo slings left me for dead from a roll though.
I know this one doesn't seem crazy but it was if you were there.

He needed to drive it with a set of JRI's and good tires. Someone should tell Roman that those shitty Kendas are just rebadged kaisers that have been on plenty of other vehicles. That whole "made specifically for the Slingshot" is horseshit. What the hell...Don't these guys watch my videos? LMAO!! Haha.
Overall I did like the video though.

Man, I had sooooo much fun. Thank you guys very much for making it unforgettable. It was just awesome. I don't think I was able to get very much video footage as I was moving around a lot, but I'll try to throw something together with what I did get!
It was epic to meet everyone and to make just as many new friends at the same time.....There's just nothing better than that.

I didn't wanna introduce myself until I actually bough a Slingshot.
This is lengthy intro, but Joe (Sling King) told me to tell it =)
A little bit about myself, name's Jason, been in Alabama all my life,
almost 41 years! Loved the Slingshot when I heard about it a couple
years ago. Couldn't afford to get one at the time. Had just bought a
Jeep Rubicon and started to modify it super quick! Wanted a Jeep, since
I was in my late teens, so I figured 20 years wait was long enough! It
was an awesome Jeep, went many places, I would've never gone in a
regular vehicle! Didn't quite realize quite how much damage would
happen internal, while doing this, LOL! I mean, I knew things would
brake and wear, but didn't know they would that often.... Had the Jeep
almost 2 years and went through 3 sets of upper/lower balljoints, 3
pairs of inner front axle seals, just to name a couple. Invested
$10-$15k in it, in less than 2 years! So, needless to say, no extra
cash for a Slingshot...
Decided a few months back to put the Jeep up for sale. Tried to get
payoff, $18k, and nothing. It had $10k plus in mods, that I was just
gonna let go with it. People, many people, wanted it, but couldn't get a
bank to loan enough and didn't have any cash to just buy it....
Talked to a few car dealers, who offered me $6k-$10k for the Jeep....
Just completely disgusted... Talked to my cousin, that's been at a
local Chevy dealer for 30+ years and trust him! He said the best way
out of the Jeep was to trade for a $42,000 2016 Chevy Silverado, Crew
Cab, LTZ Z71..... Payments would be $650-$700/month, but the incentives
would eat the negative equity up.... Still just so disappointed...
So, I was daydreaming about the Slingshot a few weekends ago, (March-April 2016). Started
looking at all sorts of stuff, Polaris's website, stumbled upon
Slingmods and last Tuesday, I found Joe, (Sling King)'s Vlogs. I didn't
have much time to watch them at work, but when I got home, I watched
every one of his Vlogs! Checked out some of his review on his great
opportunity, getting to work with Slingmods! Checked out, TheKingofReviews.com and was dead set on owning a Slingshot!
I found Joe's Facebook page and he quickly accepted my request. He
told me about so many other things, that I didn't know about the
Slingshot! We talked about my financial situation and the desire to
just bite the bullet and get the damn thing!
So, this past Wednesday, (April 6, 2016), I took the day off, went to the Polaris dealer
in Athens, AL. Sat in a Turbo Silver SL and just from sitting in it, I fell
in love!!! That one was sold, at $25,999!!! But, they had a Base
Titanium, but had added the infotainment crap and a windshield and jacked
the price up to $24,000.... They tried to tell me that I needed the
extras that they put on it.... They won't let people test drive them, due to
insurance purposes... Thought this Slingshot dealership was the better
one, out of the 3 in Alabama, but just another dealer, wanting to make
the sale.... So, Thursday and Friday, I was on the phone with them off
and on throughout both days. Seemed it only got worse, until they
finally decided to do something for me.
Got a call, about 6pm, Friday night, (April 15, 2016), saying they think they had a deal
worked up for me, at a payment that wasn't ridiculous... But, they
couldn't tell me over the phone... Called them Saturday morning and
finally got a payment out of them, it was $10-$15 more than I wanted,
but the best thing for me, at this point in time. So, checked with the
boss, (wife) and she was fine with it!
Got to the dealer, at closing time the next day and made the deal, and
left with a 2016.5 Gloss Black Base! Soon as we left the dealership, I
decided that this is the best thing I've ever wasted money on, in my life! 1st
through 3rd is an absolute thrill!!! I've owned Vettes, 1st Gen
Camaros, lots of Classic cars, lots of motorcycles and this is, hands
down, the baddest thing I've driven!!!
So, thank you Joe, (Sling King), for all your terrific info, reviews,
etc. and to taking the time to talk to me! He told me the
Slingshot community was the best out there! I wish there were more
people like you in this world, brother! I plan to have my Slingshot for
a long time to come!

They'll swarm like they always do....They get really close and in my face snapping pictures, asking questions....Then after about 5 seconds the closest one says, "Awe maaaaan, you're not bruce Willis." Then they all walk away kicking rocks in disappointment. 
There will be pics up tomorrow. There are 25 in stock. I'm sorry i don't know anything about them. I've never seen or tried them for the Slingshot.
