Loud pipes save lives.....
I want to have a nice rumble, not sound like a mad bumblebee on steroids....millennials like to make their tiny cars sound like that....
All a loud exhaust does on a 4-cylinder is make a vehicle sound impotent and obnoxious!
This is what I would like to hear from the exhaust: https://www.bing.com/videos/se…EE702ACE83A5&&FORM=VRDGAR
Bill
Can you provide a picture of how the top attaches to the roll bars, I want to see if there would be a way to modify that attachment when we are riding with our non-Meansling sissy bar bags.............................
Bill
We are still waiting for that whisper quiet exhaust, but not holding our breath.
Otherwise, stock exhaust + Madstad windshield = no fumes in the passenger compartment.

After years of listening to folks with this ailment there does not appear to be a "one size fit all" solution. Though, I am still thinking that if a belt is clean and set up properly, (per each SlingShots individual personality), then no coating should be required? For example, with the Grasshopper we now operate with a very visible gap on the inside of the rear pulley and tension set at around 0.7" . It is also our experience that the looser belt is more than likely to screech compared to one adjusted nearer to factory specs.
It is also our experience that as the final drive, (angle drive on back), warms up, the quieter overall that our machine becomes.
Bill
.....I'm convinced its dirt/fine dust that is the cause...
Yes, a dirty belt can squeal, but by saying that only dirt causes a belt to squeal is like saying that only a fallen tree on power lines will cause an outage..................
(I chose this anomaly because that is what happened here this afternoon)
Bill
My back wheel is like a dirt magnet. Very dirty after riding.
I don’t know if the wheel and belt turning is creating a static charge that attracts the dirt to it or what.... my entire back end is always dusty.
I'll leave it to others to comment on the "my entire back end is always dusty."
Otherwise................
As the SlingShot is traveling down the road a vacuum is being created that naturally draws in dirt and dust. I installed a rear fender hoping to keep the rear area cleaner, but that vacuum defeats that purpose. I have seen where some folks have invented their own small deflectors that route air into the area and they say it does help to keep the rear area, (including the wheel), cleaner.
Remember these that used to be mounted on older station wagons:

I have the manual and I have a belt tension gauge but why does this only happen with the cold weather. You would think it would do it all the time if the belt tension was off.
I am by far no expert on this topic, but it has been my experience that as the temperature drops the belt naturally tends to get less resilient while the tension decreases. With a looser belt it will tend to "wander" further to the outside across the rear pulley more. When starting out on a ride with the temps near, or below, freezing, our belt too has a tendency to screech until it warms up a little a few miles down the road. Over the years we have found a "sweet spot" of adjustment to minimize this, but it took some trial and error experimentation, where each SlingShot appears to tend to have it's own personality!
Bill
You know, in 76,000 miles I very rarely even check the belt except to clean it and have never adjusted it. Some people!
Well, FunCycle, like you, we too have been very fortunate ourselves not to suffer many of the common ailments associated with the SlingShot over the years, but it doesn't hurt to understand how to correct a problem if/when, one finally pops up, does it?
Maybe to help you start out on the right foot, I would suggest acquiring an maintenance manual, (check your PMs), and purchasing a simple Belt tension gauge , ( https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mot…C232&ref=nb_sb_ss_fb_1_29), the rest of the tools necessary will naturally follow!
Bill
Well, let's see, rather than starting yet another thread on this topic, the SlingShot is now over four years old and since it's introduction there has been literally hundreds, (thousands?), of posts presented concerning belt maintenance, both here and https://www.slingshotforums.com/. May I suggest that you set aside a couple of hours, stock up on the beverage and snacks of your choice, find the search buttons, and I can pretty much assure you that you that not only will you find the answers in which you seek, you will also get a great education and enlightenment concerning maintaining your own SlingShot!
Have fun!

Riding today with the temps reaching up into the 70's, (Oh, did that feel nice!), with the top on we were compelled to raise the Madstad windshield to allow ventilation into the passenger compartment due to it becoming too warm. To backtrack a wee bit however, having the top made it much more comfortable when riding when the temps were dipping down into the 20's.

Just out of curiosity, are there any owners here that have had dealings with CASCADE MOTORSPORTS, INC. in Bend Oregon? We are trying to decide if we want to spend four plus hours, each way, traveling up the Interstate to Salem to get our recalls taken care of, or wait until the roads have been cleared of winter debris to travel through the mountains over to Bend?
Bill
I seem to recall somebody mentioning something about vanderhall Motors acquiring the SlingShot from Polaris?
It appears where Polaris conceived and marketed the SlingShot as a motorcycle alternative, though it appears to be gravitating towards transforming it into more of a car, where Vanderhall starting out with profiling their three-wheeler as "sophisticated" but is now moving into the more roguish motorcycle-like direction? A little role reversal going on here?
Bill
Was supposed to be 70 and partly cloudy today.
Sun was out for about 8 minutes hasn't got over 55 and everything is still wet... 90% chance of rain
I have had enough of this crap
We're looking forward to getting up to over 50 degrees.....................
Bill
Oh, and our Son and Daughter-in-law recently blessed us with yet another reason to wear our helmets:
Bill
The downside on all of this is some insurance companies will balk on coverage if you are in an accident while not wearing a helmet and sustain a head injury.
I know I am in the minority here, but this statement makes perfect sense to me.................................
Bill
Having experienced wearing a portable sauna in the Army, otherwise known as a poncho, I have never liked rain gear and just prefer to get soaked.......................I might get miserably wet, but at least I'm not also trapping the humidity and roasting myself at the same time.
That tells alot about where ya live!
At least it appears that we are coming out of our winter rainy season where there is only one wet day this week!
Bill
I believe the ESS light is supposed to come on when it has provided some assist. I've never seen mine come on despite the Slingshot tail hanging out to the point I wasn't sure it would recover. No idea what angle it will allow before it kicks in but it must be pretty wide.
LOL, I must admit that if I ever get into a situation where I may need the assistance of the ESP, I doubt that I will be watching the instrument panel?
