    Technically, a Slingshot isn’t a motorcycle either...

That's one of the questions I am asked often - is it a car or a motorcycle? NH considers it a motorcycle but I think that's just for insurance purposes. I just call it a buggy.

And finally, verify whining is not coming from passenger seat because “You’re driving too fast!!!”

^^ Nope, the only whining coming from the spousal unit is "take me for a riiiiiiiiide!" Unfortunately she's on call 7 days and the only time she has any time off it rains.

More than likely it is the drive belt. Some people say clean it with a stiff brush and soap and water and spray with dry lube. I would not worry about adjustment, if you are the type of person to worry, let the dealer check the belt adjustment. If it quite's down then you know the problem. Most of us never even pay any attention to the noise.

The big-ass belt on the rear tire? I'll check that out. I just want to make sure this isn't a problem that requires dealer attention - it's last year's model, but I have only had it 5 months and it's still under warranty.

I hope someone can help point me in the right direction. I've tried searching but I either end up with a thread about a slightly different problem or Politics Sucks.

Past few days I have noticed a pulsing, squealing sound coming from the right side when I get to about 50mph. It only happens when the SS is moving - sitting in the driveway revving it does not produce a whine (except maybe from the neighbors.) The only info I can find about it is several threads about a noise when letting up on the accelerator. My problem is opposite - If I let up on the gas, the squealing stops. When I hit the gas, the whining comes back. Once I get back down to under 45mph, it's fine. It's not a continuous sound, more of a steady pulsing sound. I am assuming a belt, but I am not mechanically inclined enough to investigate it further. I already called HK Powersports, who will look at it on the 22nd, but I am wondering if I should stop driving it until then. Is it just loud and annoying, or will I cause further damage by continuing to drive it?

Additional info: 2019 SLR, I bought it in March 2020 and it's been my main vehicle since. (My Highlander is lonely.)

Glenn, after you take a pic, open it up in your gallery and crop a millimeter or two from either side of it or from the top or bottom. Save it and upload that one to the forum. Don't know why, but that always uploads correctly.

Aha! Thanks, that works. I was taking the pic and rotating it thinking I could fake it out, but if I uploaded it upside-down, the forum left it as it was. So, before and after.

When I got my 2019 Slingshot, I said the first thing I would do to it was upgrade the headlights to LED. Finally did that. Simple enough installation but I'm proud of myself for opening the hood. :D I'd upload before and after pics but importing a pic always comes upside-down. I used the T3 and T9 bulbs from Slingmods.

The ST Owners Club used to call these mods "farkles." Not sure if there is a name for it on a Slingshot. I also kinda feel bad that I haven't named it yet. My ST-1100 was called "STarscream," then that one got wrecked so I called the ST-1300 that replaced it "STarscream's GhoST." The Slingshot? We have just been calling it "the buggy."

Was on my way home from Shaw's around 2:30 today (Sunday Apr 5th) and passed another red/black Slingshot. I think there were two of you in it, followed by a guy on a motorcycle. Was right next to the Irving in the center of town, in Newport NH, I had just turned left and saw you. We waved at each other. Anyone?

Have to agree - a helmet saved my coconut four years ago. Now that I have traded two wheels for three, I'm trying to decide whether to wear it (and look like a Formula racer) or go without and risk the occasional flying rock on I89.

At some point while playing with the Ride Command on my SLR there was a mention of an iPhone app. When I searched for it, I found two. One has the Polaris logo and the other has the Slingshot logo, but both appear to do the same thing. Is one more "correct" than the other? Does it matter? Haven't managed to pair either one yet.

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification, I understand a lot more now. I figured it was all related somehow, I just don't know quite enough to be dangerous (yet.)

Sorry GlennB I derailed your thread when my brake light came on the other day. Bad form I guess but it happens more often than you'd think. :saint:

I'm no stranger to derailed threads... probably done it myself a few times without trying. :D

I hate to admit it but now I am confused. The ESP light coming on is because of a bad brake switch? I'm no mechanic... I'll do the brake light test mentioned in the other thread but not sure where to go from there. Guess I have a lot of reading to do.

I also don't relish the idea of tearing into something new that I have had for a week. :/

I drive 120 miles from Southeast of Chicago to the Northwest of Chicago... My dealer of choice is Nielsen's Ent, Lake Villa, IL If you were treated right when you bought your Slingshot, get to know the Techs in the shop --- would be my TWO-CENTS.gif TWO-CENTS.gif  yea my dealer is worth the extra TWO-CENTS.gif

I have no problem taking it back to where I got it, I am just concerned that if this is a problem (i.e. not really safe to ride) then an hour could cause more damage. I don't have a trailer.
